1. Wake up optimistic
2. Watch a "How to train your dog" video
3. Listen to dog bark at neighbors while cleaning up his "accident
4. Bring dog inside for breakfast and decide to let him eat it off the floor after he knocks it out of your hand
5. Find yourself relieved when you see him napping; now you can get ready for work
6. Come out of the shower and find a trail of toilet paper into the living room
7. Spend 10 minutes playing keep away with the TP roll
8. Realize you are now late for work and need to wrestle him into his crate
9. Ask your kids where the leash is and they tell you is what is left of it is outside

Prongs have had a bad rap over the years. Although it looks scary and painful it is one of the safest and useful tools out there… when used and fit properly.

It will not be a useful or safe tool if the fit is too big. This means the collar needs to sit at the highest point of the dog’s head right behind the ears. This is where all the clear communication is and the placement where your dog will not choke, or gag itself. If it is any lower you might as well used a regular or martingale collar.

It is slightly uncomfortable when pressure is applied but a properly used prong is not yanking your dog. When your dog starts to pull, the handler will walk in the opposite direction creating 360° of pressure around the dog’s neck leading the dog to follow your lead. This teaches the dog that when they feel pressure they need to follow it to release it, instead of pulling against it.

The prong collar isnt for “bad” or “aggressive” dogs. It can be used on any dog no matter the size or breed. Some dogs just need clear cut guidelines that only the prong can give when compared to other training collars. This can be especially true for strong breeds that may otherwise drag you down the street. If your dog uses one, know that they are not a bad dog and they dont have to wear it forever. 💙
