Did you know VMC works with the local police departments and their working dogs? 🐕. We provide their routine and emergency medical care ❤️‍🩹 and help them address and recognize medical issues while out in the field. Two of our staff members recently worked with EMS to help with training as well. We are super honored to be a part of this!

This week Dr. Devon Diaz (Board Certified Critical Care Specialist) and Sam (Critical Care Technician) partnered with AeroMed and Tampa General Hospital to train EMS personnel how to safely treat and transport working canines! This is an ongoing partnership and effort to push life saving care forward to our Canine Officers.

We thought we’d share some photos of the first few days of performing CT scans at our hospital. Because pets must stay very still for the scan, they are either fully anesthetized or sedated with a reversible medication. The medications used for sedation depends on the health of the patient and the reason for performing the CT scan. For pets that need IV contrast, IV fluids are given before and after the procedure as an extra precaution. Bloodwork is also checked or completed before the scans.

We are excited to announce that we will offer outpatient CT services beginning Monday January 13th! Outpatient CT scans will be scheduled Monday through Friday from 8a-5p.

Emergency CT scans are also available 24/7 for any patients admitted to our hospital.

Update 10/16: the gas situation in our area seems to have been mostly resolved! We are so thankful for all the people that are helping our city return to normal. 🙏

Due to the gas situation, some of our staff members cannot get to work. We are also having some phone/internet issues. But, we are OPEN and doing our best. We appreciate your patience very much.

Our new Emergency & Specialty building will be open by the end of October. We are looking forward to the new equipment, diagnostics and treatments we will be able to provide. We will also welcome new specialists in the upcoming year.

I want to say thank you to all our clients that have been patient with us through this process. We know it has been chaotic. Soon, you will see a change in how things flow at the hospital. We are dedicated to making sure you have the best possible experience with your pet and are making changes to ensure that happens.

Below are photos taken of the hospital today. The last of the expansion process involves completing the new parking lot and lifting our new CT machine through the second floor window. The hurricane delayed us a little bit, but it will still be completed by mid-late October.

We are keeping an eye on the developing hurricane, and plan to stay open during the inclement weather. Our hospital has a generator to ensure we will always have power. Our staff volunteers to stay 24/7 at the hospital so all pets can get the help they need. Stay tuned for more updates.

We are open today, but functioning with less staff than normal. Some of our staff members are unable to drive to the hospital due to flooding. However, we are open and will be doing our best today.

Our ER is not currently busy. Our General Practice may be a little behind schedule.
