💡What is a Ear Hematoma?
A ear hematoma is a common yet painful ailment that causes discomfort. These can appear in many places on the body; however, they are usually found on the ears. Dogs and cats usually develop hematomas while scratching or biting themselves.
The best way to spot this problem is to look for swellings and bulges. Once you’ve located the problem, act fast before the ailment worsens.
🩺Treatment options include needle aspiration and bandages, tube drainage systems, and incisional drainage. The goal is to remove the hematoma, prevent recurrence and retain the natural appearance of the ears.
If you think your pet may have an ear hematoma, contact your veterinarian to examine further. Our AER team is here for your family 24 hours, 7 days a week. 🚨

Annie Oakley
Meet sweet Annie Oakley! She was found in Bradenton by Manatee Animal Services and was brought in to Animal ER with a possible diagnosis of distemper. When testing came back negative for distemper, Annie O was sent for a consult with local veterinary neurologist, Dr. Levine.
Additional testing revealed Annie Oakley had organic phosphate poisonings! She was then hospitalized with our team for 4 days then returned to Manatee Animal Services.
One of our very own, Dr. Corredor decided to foster Annie. Unfortunately, she was a bit too hyper for Dr. Corredor's smaller dogs, so one of our other team members, Rebekah, adopted this sweet girl, giving her 5 acres of play space to roam and enjoy. Annie Oakley now has a black Lab best friend who she adores. She also enjoys hanging out with other AER staff's pups. Check our her recent happy photos within the comment section!
We're grateful to work alongside wonderful colleagues and community partners! Stories like Annie Oakley's make us proud to serve a caring pet community. See her video of initial arrival compared to her photos now within the comment section below! :) Happy tails and good days ahead for Annie Oakley!
