***Rusty’s great video is narrated by valuable volunteer Birgitte*** It’s a great day to adopt your next family member and 3 year old and radiant Rusty is ready, willing and able to make your life complete. He was an owner surrender on 10/4 because his family had to move and couldn’t take him. He’s an absolute doll and such a happy and friendly boy. Rusty is looking for a family who loves adventure like camping, long walks and BBQ parties. He would prefer no cats in the home. He’s super fun and ALWAYS has a smile on his face. He’s going to make an amazing family member!

*** Lucy's great video is narrated by valuable volunteer Birgitte***
Some situations are the most upsetting situations, but we’re to make the smallest lives feel safe, loved and spoiled! Lucy and Ethel were a shocking, tragic and heartbreaking surprise literally one day before Hurricane Milton on October 8th. They were brought to us by a very nice man who was driving past an open field and THANKFULLY noticed a crate with 2 small dogs inside and no one around. Yes, they were abandoned and they are old and they are 100% blind. Ethel’s is 18 years young and tiny 7 pounds. Lucy, is teeny weeny 8 pounds and 15 years young. Neither Lucy or Ethel can see and it broke our hearts to think of what might have happened to them had someone not found them. We’re thrilled that Ethel was adopted with Lucy, however, Lucy wants all the attention for herself and came back.

Thanks to fundraisers like Paws in Motion, we’re able to care for abandoned blind beauty’s like 18 year young Ethel and 15 year young Lucy. Donations make the difference between despair and hope. We are a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit animal welfare organization. We receive no money from national organizations or local taxes. Your generous donations help us provide, food, medications, heartworm prevention, heartworm treatments, various surgeries, vaccinations, X-rays and spay and neuter surgeries for our shelter pets. We accept all breeds, ages and sizes into our adoption program. Many transferred in from various local shelters and some pets who are scheduled to be euthanized due to overcrowding. Other dogs and cats are owner surrenders, cat and kittens through our Trap/Neuter/Return (TNR) program and cruelty and confiscation cases.
Saving lives 4 paws at a time is what we love doing! We posted newborns Elwood, Fern, and Winterberry who came in on 12/20/24 as owner surrenders the other day. *** Please note: These sweet babies are NOT available for adoption yet and we are not accepting applications***
We wanted to show the progress … they’ve come a long way baby! There were originally 5 puppies. While a family pet was giving birth, one of the puppies ended up stuck during delivery and they had to do an emergency spay and sadly lost a second puppy. The owner tried to bottle-feed the other 3 puppies for a week. When the puppies arrived here, they were only 1 week old, cold, and had what sounded like aspiration pneumonia from being improperly fed. They are on a third course of antibiotics but finally seem to be doing better. They turned one month old on Friday. Elwood now weighs .56lbs, Winterberry .55lbs and Fern, a whopping .75lbs!
Fundraisers help us save lives like Elwood, Fern, and Winterberry … so mark your calendars for the 18th annual 2025 HSMC Paws in Motion Walk-a-thon fundraiser on March 15th at the Pavillion at the Riverwalk located at 452 3rd Ave West in Bradenton. ***Lulu is on a super fun sleepover***
We have a new supermodel waiting to rock someone’s world. We introduce you to 13 year young Lulu. This sweet girl is front declawed, prefers the company of women, and besides digging high-quality catnip and juicy gossip, prefers a quiet living space. Loud noises frighten her. LuLu is also eligible for our Seniors for Seniors program. https://humanemanatee.org/shelter/senior-for-seniors/
10 Reasons why adopting an older cat, like Lulu is a Purrrrrfect choice:
1. They're often the victim of circumstance
2. No potty training!
3. Senior cats appreciate good grooming
4. They are most appreciative of being adopted
5. Scratching and teething are (Mostly!) in the rearview mirror
6. What you see is what you get
7. Senior kitties are chill
8. Older cats make excellent couch potatoes
9. Older pets know when they are rescued
10. You can be a lifesaver
Stop by to meet Lulu. You’ll love her as much as we do! We’re located at 2515 14th Street W., Bradenton. Our adoption hours are Tuesday – Saturday from 10 am – 4 pm and closed for shelter lunch from 12pm – 1pm. We wanted to share this adorable video! This is adorable Queen of Pop Madonna; she is still waiting for a last name. She’s 2 years old and sadly, she was found as a stray in August with her newborns Dwight, Dolly, Reba, Stevie, Carrie, and Cher. All babies adopted their amazing families. Madonna was adopted in October but returned due to no fault of her own. She is excited to sing and perform in her new home! She does need to be the only pet in the home. Because she was a stray and not cared for and not on monthly prevention, she is heartworm positive. She is currently undergoing her treatments, but don't worry, the cost of her treatment is covered by her adoption fee. All she wants now is a happy and loved home, time to relax, concentrate on herself from now on and someone who will help her go through her recovery treatment. Prior to adopting Madonna, HSMC staff will give you her treatment plan and be there to assist every step of the way.
If you’re interested in meeting and falling in love with this adorable Grammy winner, swing on in to meet Madonna! We will also be happy to explain all information about her to you. We’re located at 2515 14th Street W., Bradenton. Our adoption hours are Tuesday – Saturday from 10 am – 4 pm and closed for shelter lunch from 12pm – 1pm. We were excited to just post 18 year young Ethel’s amazing adoption! Her story, with 15 year young Lucy, was a shocking, tragic, and heartbreaking surprise literally one day before Hurricane Milton on October 8th. A very nice man was driving past a field and noticed a crate with these 2 small dogs inside and no one around. Yes, they were abandoned AND both blind. While here, we under the impression that they were a bonded pair. Lucy and Ethel recently went on a super fun sleepover; however, it turns out that Lucy was not pleased to share the home and would rather be the only queen of her castle. Don’t let her age or disability fool you. She has plenty of pep her step and loves life … as the only dog in the house. Ethel, at 18 was just adopted and Lucy is still waiting for her perfect match!

It’s a new year and the perfect time to adopt your next adorable and fun family member. On May 3rd we welcomed eleven 1-month-old babies we called the “Breakfast litter”. They were owner surrenders and the offspring of a family-owned pet. Croissant, Bagel, Ham, Eggs, Hash Brown, Pancake, Muffin, Sausage, Scone, Toast and Waffle went into “Foster to Adopt” families. All adopted their loving families, however at 8 months old, Croissant came back with us due to no fault of her own. She is now 9 months and weighs 39 pounds and is an absolute doll! As you can see, she LOVES the water and is full of personality. She’s going to make a nice, active family very happy.

We are SOOOO HAPPY!!!! The most adorable and loving boy in the world went on a super fun sleepover and decided to stay because his new family needed happy hearts. Mr. Claus is a 5 year old sweetheart and was found alone on a farm just after Hurricane Milton. The caring family who found him was concerned for his safety and brought him to us. This gentle boy does not belong out in the wild trying to survive. We don’t know why he ended up alone after a traumatic storm, but those days of being alone are over! Congratulations to the entire family.
Look at this dreamboat! This is 6 year old Blizzard. We don’t know his history but what we do know is … he has no business trying to survive in the wild. Blizzard is an absolute doll and loves to be loved and has so much love to give. He loves cuddling and really loves being safe. Blizzard would rather be the only fabulous feline in the home. If you’re looking for a loyal family member who won’t care if you’re having a bad hair day, then Blizzard is your boy!
