About a month ago, we learned of an elderly lady's heartbreaking plight. She had 19 cats that needed new homes and had done everything in her power to care for them. Sadly, after Hurricane Helene, she had to leave her home in Waterloo and could only return sporadically to tend to the cats.
Upon our arrival, we were devastated by the dire conditions the cats were in. They were all on a screened-in front porch with no shelter from the cold. To our surprise, there were actually 25 cats, not the 19 we initially thought. We spent a lot of time there cleaning and doing our best to improve their living environment until they could all be removed from the property.
Since then, we have taken in 23 of these cats. The first group was removed on February 4th, and the second group was rescued this past weekend. There are only two remaining, and we hope to trap them this week.
Unfortunately, three of the first group tested positive for FIV. Thankfully, a wonderful follower stepped in to take in two of them, and our amazing adoption partner, the Atlanta Humane Society, welcomed the third. We are also deeply grateful to the Atlanta Humane Society for allowing us to transport five cats from this dire situation, including one of the FIV-positive, last week.
However, our work is far from over. We urgently need your help to provide medical care, shelter, and food for these rescued cats. Your donations can make a world of difference in their lives. Please consider contributing to our cat rescue project and help us give these innocent creatures the love and care they deserve. If you feel led, you can donate using our website: fourpawsrescue-shelter.org.
Some of these cats are not adoptable and will not be candidates for transport to Atlanta. If you are interested in an outside or barn cat, please let us know. We may have a few for you to choose from. 😊
