Reminder: The shotgun zone remains in place for the 2025 deer season 🦌
🔶 A bill passed during the 2025 legislative session includes elimination of the state’s shotgun-only zone for deer hunting. The new law DOES NOT go into effect until 2026.
🔶 Once the law goes into effect in 2026, hunters generally will be allowed to use legal rifles or shotguns throughout the state during the deer hunting season, unless a county passes an ordinance restricting the use of rifles in their county.
🔶 Counties where all fi****ms currently are allowed cannot restrict firearm types based on this new law, but counties where only shotguns are now allowed can opt out of allowing all types of fi****ms.
🔶 Hunters should reach out to their county commissioners to determine if counties plan to adopt such an ordinance.
