Dale Update 🐾

Over the holiday weekend, Dale threw up his NG tube, and it was replaced on Saturday. However, today, Monday, Dale sneezed the NG tube up again. The vetting team, along with our incredible partnering veterinarian, has decided not to replace it at this time.

The plan is to see if Dale's esophagus has healed enough for him to start introducing food. His progress will determine the next steps:

If Dale can eat without issues (no choking, aspiration, or food coming from his neck puncture wounds), he'll remain tubeless, and his progress will continue to be monitored.

If Dale has difficulty consuming food, he'll need a more permanent feeding tube, an esophagostomy tube, to be placed to support his recovery.

Dale continues to fight, so we will continue to fight for him as well. None of this vetting comes free and we desperately want to do right by Dale. We need your help! Please continue to share Dale’s updates, donate if you can, and send positive healing vibes to Dale!

Pending Adoption! 🐾

Meet Winnie! This adorable 6-month-old stray is a transfer from Minneapolis Animal Care & Control.

Winnie is a smart and eager-to-please pup who has already mastered some key skills! She has basic crate manners, walks well on a leash, and knows how to sit on command. Her treat motivation makes her a fantastic student for continued training. She's still getting the hang of potty training, but with a little patience and consistency, she's sure to be a pro in no time.

Due to her breed, we are requiring adopters to have Rottweiler experience to ensure she goes to a home that understands her specific needs and can provide her with the right environment to thrive.

If you have Rottweiler experience and are looking for a sweet, trainable, and loving companion, Winnie might be the perfect match for you!

Dale is resting comfortably, but we have an important update about his care and a plea for your support.

As you can see, Dale has a feeding tube. This is crucial because the holes in his throat potentially communicate with his trachea, making it risky for him to eat normally. Moving forward, all of his medications and food will be administered through this tube to ensure he gets the nourishment he needs safely.

We were able to flush out his wounds more, which is great news! Tomorrow, we're hoping to go in and potentially close the hole in his esophagus. This next step is vital for his recovery.

Dale wasn't a big fan of the feeding tube at first, but it's going to help him immensely on his journey to getting better. For now, we're letting him rest and get used to it.

His medical journey is ongoing and requires significant resources. If you're able to, please consider donating to Dale's care. Every little bit helps us provide him with the best possible treatment and a chance at a full recovery.

An Update on Puppy Dale

Dale made it through the night, and we are so relieved! He's bright-eyed and energetic, which gives us hope, but we're remaining cautiously optimistic about his recovery.

Dale has some significant wounds that are causing him to itch as they heal. Due to the location of the wounds, we can't use a cone, so we're keeping a very close eye on him.

His vet appointment is scheduled for first thing in the morning. While his condition is urgent, it's not currently emergent. He is stable, but we will rush him to an emergency vet if his temperature spikes or if he becomes lethargic.

The vet will thoroughly examine him tomorrow and will likely need to sedate him to clean and assess his injuries. He has puncture wounds in his throat, which are causing some food to seep out. Because of this, he may need a feeding tube to ensure he gets the nutrition he needs to heal.

As a rescue, we have to be financially responsible for all the dogs in our care. We are doing everything we can for Dale, but we are also limited in our ability to see a specialist.

Dale is going to need a lot of long-term care before he's ready for adoption. He'll likely be on a wet food diet for some time. We are in desperate need of WET puppy food to help him on his journey to recovery. His foster mom will be feeding him Fromm or Acana Pate food, as consistency is key for puppies.

If you would like to help, you can ship wet food donations to:
Northern Lakes Rescue
1606 Mill Ave
Brainerd, MN 56401

All monetary donations will go directly toward Dale's medical care. Please keep this sweet boy in your thoughts.

As we were busy prepping our new office on Birchdale Road, we received a plea that reminded us exactly what we were sweatin our butts off for.

Meet Dale, a sweet puppy who found himself in a terrifying situation.

Dale was attacked by his (dog) dad, leaving him with deep puncture wounds that led to an infected abscess in his neck. He was then dumped, and the finder then reached out for help, and we immediately jumped in.

Our team is dedicated to giving Dale the best chance possible, but his medical care could be costly. His prognosis is "optimistically guarded," which means he has a tough fight ahead of him.

This is why we're here—to be a voice for the voiceless, and today we are fortunate to be the voice for Dale.

Will you join us in making sure he gets the life-saving care he needs?

Every donation, big or small, brings us one step closer to healing Dale. Donate today and become part of his recovery journey.
