September is shaping up to be a whirlwind at Northern Lakes Rescue, but we wouldn’t have it any other way. Saving precious lives is what drives us! Our dedicated volunteers are working tirelessly to help our local community and rescue deserving dogs from the south. These pups deserve a second chance, and we hope you’ll consider opening your heart and home.

On September 28th, we’ll be welcoming a group of adorable dogs. However, we can only bring them in if they have loving foster homes waiting. As a foster-based rescue, we can’t accommodate them at our office. We’re looking for foster-to-adopt or foster homes.

Izzy Is Searching For Her Forever! She has been in rescue for 959 days! That equals 2 years, 7 months, 2 weeks and 5 days! 😭

Izzy is a sweet, energetic 3 year old terrier mix who loves being outdoors! She's happiest on walks, exploring new sights and smells. Though she may get a little excited at first, she settles down quickly and enjoys the experience.

Izzy is a well-trained pup who's comfortable being crated. She's even learned to self-crate when she knows it's time to go! While she may have some anxiety, she's a great companion and does well with other animals. She's been raised around children and has proven to be a gentle and loving playmate. Izzy is also comfortable with cats and other dogs, although she may get a bit overexcited during playtime.

Lady Bird and her 4 adorable puppies are looking for loving foster homes in Minnesota! 🐶❤️

These sweethearts have a chance to be FLOWN to MN on September 28th. In order to come to MN, they need a foster or foster to adopt home lined up.

Lady Bird is a gentle and well-behaved 8-year-old Great Pyrenees Mix. She's great with other dogs, cats, and kids and is even calm during vet visits. Her puppies will be around 12 weeks old when they arrive.

Mill Ave has some new kids on the block!

Meet Mama Violet and her puppies Prudence, Tilley, Benedict, Charlotte, Penelope, and Daphne!

Plus we have Newton and Kola who joined them for their ride to freedom!

Our volunteers were busy last night getting them bathed, vetted, photos, microchipped, and even a dematting shave for Mama! (2 POUNDS worth!)

We're bursting with joy because we were able to save mama dog and her 8 precious puppies from being euthanized! 🐶💖 They arrive on Saturday and we can't wait to go live and share them with you!

But now we have tiny tummies to fill! We desperately need puppy food to nourish these little ones and help them thrive. 🍼

We’d like to share that our Community Pet Pantry was just restocked with wet cat and dog food. We have boxes and boxes of dry cat and dog food samples for community members to feed their pets.
Stop by on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 5-8pm and a volunteer can help load you up.
A huge thank you to our local Petsmart Baxter, Mn for thinking of our furry friends in the community!

We want to take a moment to celebrate one of our incredible volunteers: Kelsey!

Kelsey has been a dedicated member of the Northern Lakes Rescue family for the last 2 years. She's worn many hats during her time with us, from intake to fostering, and has been instrumental in helping countless pups find their forever homes. In fact, Kelsey has finalized an impressive 42% of our total adoptions in 2024 alone!

It comes as no surprise to all those know her, but we are absolutely estatic to announce that Kelsey has been promoted to Foster Coordinator Manager! In just a short time, she's already made a significant impact by revamping the training system for new foster coordinators, diving deep into our vetting protocols, and representing us at various events. All this while continuing to foster, assist with intakes, and help with transportation!

Kelsey, your unwavering commitment and enthusiasm are an inspiration to us all. We're incredibly grateful for your dedication and for always saying "yes" without hesitation. Thank you for everything you do!

After 1,024 days in rescue, Lanner (now Fritz) has found his forever home! This amazing boy has blossomed into the most incredible dog during his time with us, and we’re bursting with joy (and happy tears!) to see him start this new chapter.

It is always beautiful when the rescue community and other local businesses are able to come together in times of need, but we want to recognize Shane from Minnesota Computer Systems, Inc. and one of NLR’s volunteers, Jessica, along with The Retrievers,for their incredible efforts.

Seeing a family heartbroken over a lost loved one is always tough, but it's especially devastating when it's a newly adopted pet who may be scared and unfamiliar with their surroundings.

We are thrilled to share some incredible news!!
Last year the new board administration was dumbfounded to learn we had inherited a close to $45k debt. We are proud to announce that in the last 10 months with dilligent hard work, the loyalty of our volunteers and our amazing donors and followers we have more than halved that amount. This journey hasn’t been easy. We’ve had to make tough decisions, including temporarily scaling back on some of our beloved medical cases. We are looking forward to a reality in which we can continue our mission.

Your belief in our mission has kept us going. We’re excited about a future where we can fully resume our work and continue giving a voice to the voiceless.
A huge thank you to our incredible volunteer team! You’re the heart and soul of our rescue. ❤️

UPDATE: Foster to Adopt found

Trigger is a charming 5-year-old German Shorthaired Pointer (GSP) looking for his perfect match. This energetic boy is neutered and up-to-date on his vaccinations.

Trigger is a social butterfly who gets along with other dogs and children. He has been exposed to cats and has not had any issues but has never lived with one.

While Trigger loves people and his dog friends, he does experience some separation anxiety. With a consistent routine, plenty of exercise, and a loving family, we believe his worries will fade away. This smart and eager-to-please boy is looking for an active home where he can burn off energy and receive the attention he craves.
