We aren't professionals...we aren't the A-Squad... we are just ordinary people doing what we can to help make a difference. B-Squad was founded in 2014 and has been assisting rescues on the Pine Ridge and Rosebud Indian Reservations relocate the unwanted, abandoned, injured, or absused dogs to partner rescues in neighboring states. Since 2014, we have assisted in transporting well over 2,500 dogs

to their new beginnings. We are now expanding our rescue to include the fostering and adoption of these wonderful dogs and puppies in our home state as well as fund additional rescue efforts and spay/neuter programs on the reservations we serve.

In honor of National Dog Day will you help us give this deserving senior a second chance?

This local itty bitty senior chihuahua found herself at the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society. Because she will require specialty veterinary care and benefit from being in a foster based environment we were asked if we could take her on. While we donā€™t know much about her past- we do know she will require some pretty extensive medical care to get her on a path to recovery. She will be seeing our medical team at Best Care Pet Hospital and getting a complete senior exam and work up completed. We know she will need an extensive dental with several extractions and she is dealing with some of kind of endocrine issue so additional testing will be required. Her urgent care is estimated to be between $1,000- $1,500 depending on total number of extractions needed.

If you believe like we do that she deserves a second chance at her golden years- please consider a donation via one of the avenues below and helping us provide this urgent care!

Vehicles 3 and 4 are have been launched.

We have 5 transport drivers currently on the road. The amount of work that goes into these transports is mind boggling!

This is the communication that it has taken to coordinate this rescue mission to this point and we arenā€™t even done yet! Vans 1 and 2 wonā€™t arrive home until tomorrow.

This is definitely a GROUP effort and so farā€¦everything is coming together as we change gears and begin to prepare to welcome 9 new faces to B-Squad tonight. We are coming up a little short in funds in order to cover the extra expenses of this mission and help provide the initial vetting expenses. We have about $1,500 to go to meet our goal!

We will be working non stop until the vans arrive home later this evening and our phones ding every time a donation is received. You canā€™t imagine how each ding lifts our spirits and keeps us going on these grueling missions. Please consider making a donation, make our phone ding, and lift our team up as they make their way home!

Our transport team was up before the sun loading dogs for a new life because of YOUR support!

Our team have both vans loaded and are making their way back north. We are scrambling a bit as with more dogs than expected we are also needing to send extra vehicles to meet and intercept some dogs in order to get them to their rescue groups. The majority of these dogs will be going to rescue partners as we are struggling financially in keeping up with our veterinary expense, but we worked really hard to not leave anyone behind and nine new faces will be joining our program today.

We are in desperate need to raise an additional $2,000 to help us cover the extra transport expense of this mission as well as helping out with some of the initial vetting these deserving dogs will need.

We need you!

We have been silent recently as weā€™ve been busy with some local emergency cases. (Their stories to come) but we sent our transport team on a mission today on a wing and a prayer to help what we were planning was for 50-60 dogs. All shelters and rescues are full right now and struggling for funds so even though we barely had enough funds in the bank to cover our teamā€™s travel expenses- since we had placement for these dogs with a rescue partner we decided we had to do what we could and try to pull off a transport this month.

Our team left this morning and only a few hours into their trip- a desperate plea came for help with the release of not 60 but over 100 dogs that actually need help. We are scrambling and working hard to find rescue placement for these dogs. We are optimistic that across five different rescue organizations we will be able to find everyone a spot if we can raise the necessary funds to cover the vetting needed to legally transport them across state lines. We need to raise an extra $3,000 in order to not leave anyone behind tomorrow morning.

Our team in enroute- we need YOU to help us make this life saving mission possible.

Donations via the methods below are preferred as with the new FB protocol we wouldnā€™t receive the funds for nearly a month- but any way is greatly appreciated!

We have been receiving donations in honor of Jerry Morgan all week and each time our phone dings with a notification of a donation received it brings a smile to our face, warms our hearts, and pushes us forward in continuing to help those that need in honor of a great man and fellow dog lover. Thank you Kristi for your generous donation drive. We are thinking of you and your family and sending you all so much love!

Are you a marine animal loving person but feel empty being landlocked in South Dakota?

We have the perfect solution! Adopt Melee the land seal!

This round little blubber ball is a complete goofy ham! She adores people of all ages and will follow you around all day for belly scratches! Melee is a 6 year old French bulldog that is pretty much housetrained and walks great on a leash.

Sheā€™s looking for a laid back home where she can be outside for short periods of time. Being a flat faced breed- she cannot handle heat well- so a family that prefers the AC in the summer and whose idea of exercise is a short walk around the block is ideal. She gets along with other non-dominant dogs but would do amazing as an only dog as well!

Her full profile will be on our website tomorrow- but you can get your application in early to welcome this girl home today!

ā¤ļø THIS is why we do what we do. Boston Rescue Update ā¤ļø

From kennels where they never touched the ground... to loving forever homes!

In late May, we shared about a commercial breeding facility that was closing that had been raising Boston Terriers. We had been working with this commercial facility for the last three years taking retirees as they were phased out of their program and knew we needed to figure out a way to welcome these deserving souls to rescue as it would likely be their only shot at getting out of the breeding industry.

With YOUR support, an amazing partner rescue, some pretty amazing volunteers, and the Big Guy putting resources in place just when we needed them.... we were able to welcome all 48 bostons to the safety of rescue.

Many had some pretty significant medical needs. There were lots of spay/neuters, dentals, respiratory infections, and parasites that got worked through by our veterinary team at Best Care Pet Hospital and the veterinary team at Coco's Heart Dog Rescue. But now... we are happy to share that the last of the bostons will be heading to our amazing rescue partner, Coco's Heart Dog Rescue, tomorrow. And better yet... many of those that made the trip in early June are now finding their forever families. These family photos are EVERYTHING to us and remind us why even with all the challenges we face... our blood, sweat, and tears are so very worth it to know that not only did rescue give all of these faces a second chance at life, but they will undoubtedly become life savers themselves providing unconditional love to their forever homes.

If you'd like to help us continue to do the important work we do, please consider a one time or recurring donation. We can't continue to do this without your support! Thank you!

Foster or foster to adopt needed for our girl Queenie.

Queenie is a 4 year old female English bulldog that came to us from our friends at the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society as she needed a little extra help with her skin medically upon her intake there

Queenie has recovered beautifully while in rescue, but is in need of a new foster while she searches for her forever home or a foster to adopt home that is willing to foster her leading to an adoption.

Queenie is up to date on all vaccinations, preventions and is just awaiting her spay date before she can be officially adopted. This girl gets along great with other male dogs and hasnā€™t meant a person large or small that she didnā€™t like. She is crate trained, housetrained, and an overall ham of a couch potato. Sheā€™s a gem and is looking to be a poiled sweet!

Please visit our website and complete a foster application if you are interested in fostering to welcome this girl home today!

Itā€™s Miracle Monday- Clancy Update- please share!

I just got word that Clancy is heading up to anesthesia and will have surgery today at the Animal Emergency & Referral Center of Minnesota to correct his liver shunt. Please do us a favor and send up a prayer and send us all the good juju possible that he will survive surgery and make a full recovery.

In the last 10 yearsā€¦Iā€™ve never experienced a case like this where a little dog has been failed by so many and yet shown such a strong will to survive. Needless to say we will be working on fundraising for his emergency care for some time if youā€™re able to spare a few bucksā€¦ it would be greatly appreciated. He matters.

How can we not help a puppy that has fought so hard to live? Please share and help tell Clancy's story!

This question has been stated many times over the last two weeks. We first introduced you to our ā€œlittle manā€ during our June rescue mission. The pup, now named Clancy, was a last minute addition to our transport after reportedly having a seizure at his commercial breeding facility. Little did we know in that split second decision to not leave him behind just how dire his situation was and what a miracle it was that he had survived to get into our care.

I have struggled to post an update on Clancyā€™s story as it developed as I was often too overcome with emotion to find the words to accurately describe his story and his incredible will to survive. Iā€™m still struggling with that nowā€¦ but we desperately need your helpā€¦ so Iā€™m going to give it my best shot.

Long story shortā€¦ Clancy is currently at the Animal Emergency & Referral Center of Minnesota and is need of a surgery tomorrow to repair a liver shunt that will provide his only chance at life. The good newsā€¦ this surgery has an 85% success rate of dogs experiencing a complete recovery. The bad newsā€¦ the surgery must be performed by a board certified surgeon and requires a 3-5 day hospital stay in ICU to recover after surgery which comes at an estimated price tag of $12,000.

Clancy is a miraculous survivor of a commercial breeding industry that failed him. Simply putā€¦ Clancy shouldnā€™t be alive. He was born in a commercial breeding facility in Missouri and was sold to a broker at 8 weeks of age and then sold and transported to a pet store in Pennsylvania. Documentation shows that he received an antibiotic for kennel cough at the end of April at the pet store. We donā€™t have any documentation of his location between then and June 23rd when we secured him from his original breeder in Missouri but we do know thisā€¦ the store returned him to the breeder via the broker and for two months he sat somewhere with an untreated liver shunt with neurological symptoms due to the toxic levels of ammonia in his blood while his kennel cough also developed into a significant case of pneumonia. When we secured Clancy he was lethargic and was in respiratory distressā€¦ we were prepared on our drive to emergency care to have to humanely euthanize and end his suffering. To our surprise, his exam and bloodwork showed that his little body was actively trying to fight this infection versus seeing the numbers that typically point to a body giving out and crashing. After consulting and being examined by specialists at AERCMNā€¦ we made the decision to give him 48 hours to see how he responded to emergency treatment.

Clancyā€™s little body began responding well to treatment, and once he was stable, we transferred him from AERCMN to Best Care Pet Hospitall in Sioux Falls so that we could continue hospitalization and receive the same great care at a more economically price. The plan was to hospitalize and recover from pneumonia and then have a few months where we could medically manage his liver shunt until we raised the necessary funds for the corrective surgery back at AERCMN. Plans seldom go according to plan and while hospitalized in Sioux Falls we discovered that one of Clancyā€™s symptoms of his liver shunt was that he could not maintain his blood sugar on his own without the help of a dextrose drip. A normal blood sugar for puppies is between 80-120 ā€¦ if blood sugar drops into the thirties most dogs will begin to seize and pass on. Clancy experienced dips when we attempted to wean him off dextrose in to the low 20s and miraculouslyā€¦ he did not experience any neurological issues. However, this meant that he had to remain hospitalized on a dextrose drip until he recovered from the pneumonia and could safely be sedated to correct his liver shunt.

That brings us to nowā€¦ we made a commitment when we started this rescue to advocate for those that didnā€™t have a voice and couldnā€™t fight on their own. Call me crazy, but the significance that this little dog miraculously survived for two months in his condition and arrived back to his breeder within a day of us completing a transport where we were his only option for rescue is not lost on me. Itā€™s fair to say that due to the events of the last nine months, we value and honor life a little more these days.

So here we areā€¦ our options are to provide a surgery for a puppy that has fought like crazy to survive for the last 2.5 months or humanely euthanize him. We know that surgery comes with a seemingly impossible price tag, but we will be damned if we will be the last ones in a long list of people that have failed him. We know that this would be impossible for any one person to provide, but as an army of love and support from the rescue community, TOGETHER we can make this happen! We are going to fight and do what it takes to raise the funds necessary to give him this shot at life. He deserves that and so much more! One of our board members has donated $1,000 to the cost of his surgery which will be doubled by her employerā€™s, Sammons Financial Group Companies's, generous employee matching program to get us started! And just like that we only have $9,000 to go! We can do this TOGETHER with your help!

Please consider standing with us and helping provide this life saving surgery to Clancy. Donations can be made via this post or one of the options below:

Little man is on board- but still needs a name!

We have raised $1,800 offline and $1,465 via Facebook donations through this morning. The problem is, we won't have access to the FB donations until the end of July due to the change in funding practices of Facebook. We are still in desperate need to raise an additional $1,200 today so that we can provide the emergency care and diagnostics that our little man will need immediately.

Please consider making a tax deductible donation via Venmo or PayPal via the links below- or let us know if you'll be mailing a check so that we can get it included in our emergency fund for him. We appreciate all the financial support, shares, and prayers that we have received. It means the absolute world to us!

šŸšØšŸ›Ÿ RESCUE SOS- PLEASE SHARE!šŸ›ŸšŸšØ

Our transport team (sponsored by Schulte Subaru) left this morning on a very important rescue mission to secure 48 deserving dogs and welcome them to rescue. They had a hard time safely leaving the South Dakota/Iowa area due to all of the flooding, but they have now reached drier land and are on their way.

We are still on intake hold, so our job, is to network these dogs to trusted rescue partners in order to find rescue commitment for everyone. We are incredibly blessed with some amazing partners and we have found placement for everyone but ONE little last minute surprise.

For now... I'm going to call him Little Man. A few days ago, Little Man was a seemingly normal healthy little 4 pound yorkie/poodle mix puppy. Then... something changed. He suffered from a seizure and began head pressing in his enclosure. The breeder put out a desperate plea to us for help as they do not have veterinary care in their rural area to provide the type of emergency care that Little Man will require. This morning we consulted with our veterinary team at Best Care Pet Hospital about his condition. Right now... all symptoms are pointing to a neurological condition, likely caused by a toxic ammonia build up due to a liver shunt.

This is the HARD part of rescue. A liver shunt can be treated surgically and allow a dog to live a normal healthy life. The HARD part... the emergency treatment comes with a hefty price tag. A $3,000 MRI is needed right away to provide a definite diagnosis to see if surgery is an option, which will then cost slightly more than the diagnostics. That's a HUGE financial burden for a rescue that comes at a time when so many are full and struggling financially.

We DO NOT have rescue placement for Little Man at this time. So here's the cold hard facts about his future. WE ARE NOT GOING TO LEAVE HIM BEHIND. Doing so would guarantee that he continue to decline while his symptoms would become so painful they would end his life. We are going to go for a HAIL MARY option... our plan is for our team to secure him along with the others tomorrow. IF WE CAN RAISE THE $3,000 BY END OF DAY TOMORROW, we can welcome him to B-Squad and provide him the life saving care that he needs. If we are unable to raise the necessary funds, our only option will be to humanely euthanize him to end the inevitable suffering he would experience without the necessary treatment.

So there it is... WE CAN'T DO THIS WITHOUT YOUR HELP! If you believe like we do that Little Man deserves a chance... please consider making a donation to help us provide this life saving care. If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing, tagging someone who may be able to help, and/or sending up a prayer for him and our team to find a way to make this miracle happen for him. After all... miracles are often times God's way of using good people with kind hearts to make a difference!

Donations would be preferred via PayPal or Venmo so that we have immediate use of the funds if you are able.

Pictured below is Little Man taken just 4 days ago. The second photo is Little Man today. He is developing a sore on his head from repeated head pressing in his enclosure and is wet from his water station in the enclosure. It's hard to see such a drastic change... but we are hopeful we can make a difference for him and get him healthy again! Thank you for your continued support!

We are going to work and pray hard that we can save this little guy, but either way, he is in need of a pretty special name. Please help us with your suggestions below. Thank you!

2 Steps Forward and 3 Steps Back

This seems to be the story in my own personal journey as well as our efforts to rally our rescue and get things financially on the right track.

Meet Magnolia. She mattered.

I was driving back from Minnesota on Sunday (father's day) from a weekend spent with my children and my late husband's family. It was a beautiful weekend filled with much laughter, great visits, and a little mud... something that my husband would have loved! Funny thing about grief is that the highest of highs are often followed by the lowest of lows. Leaving everyone and driving home alone was one of those lows. Lots of time to think about how life has changed, what's been lost, and it's easy to quickly become overwhelmed with your own thoughts, memories, and anxiety.

I had stopped to get gas and wash my face and happened to check my phone. There was a message with a plea for help from a local family with a litter of shihtzu puppies. They had a 6 week old puppy that they stated was being treated for an upper respiratory infection that was struggling to breathe. They couldn't afford or provide the necessary care... mind you... our rescue is still on an intake hold as we work to catch up on what is now just over a $23,000 outstanding veterinary bill. I had to make an immediate decision... even if I tried to find a partner rescue... minutes in these cases matter and this little pup needed oxygen and emergency care immediately. We had a quick conversation to get a little history and they brought her immediately to the Emergency Clinic to be seen.

Upon initial examination at the ER, Magnolia was hypoglycemic so she was immediately placed in oxygen and started on fluids and sugars. They were optimistic and thought her blood sugar issues were the reason for her lethargy... nothing was noted on her X-rays or bloodwork. After a few hours, Magnolia started to perk up and they stated she was eating a canned prescription recovery diet and doing well enough off of oxygen that I could bring her home. So here she was... a tiny little pup that needed me and forced me out of my own head and despair.

The moment I laid eyes on her when picking her up, I knew there was a much larger issue going on. You see... little Magnolia was TINY... she weighed in at only 0.7lbs at 6 weeks old. I wrapped her in a blanket and cradled her as we drove home. I decided to mix up some goats milk formula and start what I thought would be a long process of helping her put weight on and grow. We sat together and I syringe fed her a small amount of formula. Within moments... the majority of said formula was being regurgitated out of her nose. NOT GOOD. I double checked to make sure I didn't see a cleft palate and for the remainder of the night... committed to very small frequent feedings of different consistencies and kept her in a vertical position to try to find something that worked for her to keep food down.

Nothing worked and she was growing increasingly uncomfortable, even with all of our neonate tools (incubator, oxygen, specialty feedings) We went to the vet right away in the morning where we did everything we possibly could to determine what her issue was and the best course of action. Her X-rays, bloodwork, and exam didn't provide any concrete diagnosis... our best course of action was to continue treating with antibiotics, monitoring her blood sugar, and trying what we could to get nutrition into her until she was large enough for more in depth diagnostics. I committed to this plan knowing full well this would likely mean weeks or months of small hourly feedings. I was on board... we had a plan... I couldn't help but think she came to us for a reason.

Sometimes our best plans just aren't in the cards. We made it about 6 blocks from the veterinary clinic before Magnolia began to violently regurgitate. She was struggling to recover and gasping for air. We immediately returned to the vet and she was placed in oxygen again. Her prognosis went from guarded and a long shot to critical. Throughout the next hours Magnolia continued to decline... she started having issues maintaining her body temperature and even on oxygen began to cry and gasp for air. As much as it broke our hearts, it was clear that Magnolia was suffering and the most loving thing we could do was to peacefully help her cross. Part of my job as director is being there when we have to humanely euthanize dogs in our program. I've been there... doing my best to be strong and offering comfort to dogs in their last moments. Full transparency... I wasn't ok... I didn't think I had the strength in me to be there for her alone. I called two of my sisters to see if someone could come and sit with me for support through the procedure. Neither of them would be able to make it in as quickly as Magnolia needed us to be there for her... so I sucked it up, wiped away my tears, and was present for her when she needed me.

I walked out of the vet clinic- got into my vehicle and started to buckle when there was a tap on my window. My sister was there... crawled into the passenger seat... gave me a hug and allowed me to completely fall apart in the parking lot of the vet clinic. Sometimes... we just need a total release of emotion in order to reset, find our bearings, and continue on.

A necropsy would determine that Magnolia suffered from a congenital abnormality that is referred to as PRAA (Persistent right aortic arch). It results from the failure of a fetal vessel to regress as the neonate develops. Typically, the right aortic arch regresses after birth; but when it does not, it entraps the esophagus as the neonate matures. The stricture around the esophagus causes esophageal dilation, leading to regurgitation as the puppy transitions to solid food. The continued presence of the stricture causes proximal dilation of the esophagus, further encouraging regurgitation. Magnolia also suffered from secondary megaesophagus as a result of her PRAA. Her esophagus was dilated to nearly four times the size that it should have been which explained why even liquids and vertical feedings wouldn't pass through properly. We can rest a little easier knowing that we did everything we possibly could have for her and ultimately made the right decision to end her suffering.

We believed Magnolia deserved a chance... her life mattered... and we will take the experience and the information learned to help the next dogs that will come into our care. Magnolia's emergency care came at a price tag of just over $1,400. If you believe like we did... that she deserved all of our efforts... please consider making a tax deductible donation so that we can recover some of her emergency costs. Thank you- we greatly appreciate your support!
