From our director: When my husband passed away last year we had over 100 dogs in rescue. Admittedly, due to my world falling apart, there were a number of dogs that fell through the cracks and ended up being in rescue longer than normal. We are righting the ship slowly but surely.
Cosmo is one of those dogs... but this video today makes my guilty heart feel so much better. The wait was worth it for Cosmo to find the sweet family where he was always meant to be. THIS is what makes all our blood, sweat, and tears worth it. We couldn't be happier for this family and Cosmo. Happy life sweet boy!
Giant thank you to his foster families for doing such a good job with this Cosmo. Stay tuned for more success stories as we work hard to get dogs adopted out into homes!
We can't seem to catch a break, let alone our breath. Warning that the video below can be hard to watch.
Last evening, Peanut's fosters noticed something was off. Peanut was not her usual energetic self and they noted that she seemed out of it. After seeing her stumble when trying to walk, we immediately sent them to All City Pet Care South and ER. Originally, we suspected Peanut was having a hypoglycemic event, but her blood sugar was relatively normal.
Additional bloodwork would show that little Peanut's white blood cell count was elevated as were her ammonia levels. When the ammonia level is elevated in a dog, a PSS shunt is generally suspected. A portosystemic shunt is an abnormal blood vessel that allows blood to bypass the liver and enter the main circulation without being filtered (cleaned properly) by the liver. In Peanut's case, her ammonia levels reached dangerous levels where she began to experience neurological side effects. In layman's terms... the breakdown of bacteria in her digestive tract creates ammonia that enters the bloodstream because it isn't properly filtered through the liver and is pumped directly to the brain causing these neurological symptoms.
Peanut was hospitalized and started receiving immediate treatment to help reduce those dangerous ammonia levels. She will need to see a specialist and have an ultrasound done to confirm the shunt and if all goes well, surgical repair will be necessary.
As you are likely aware, this couldn't come at a worse time. We don't have the funds needed to cover the cost of her care.
We are going to take things one step at a time. We need to raise approximately $1,500 for her hospital stay to date and the ultrasound needed to diagnose her shunt. Based on those results and after consulting with an internal medicine specialist, we will develop a care plan that will be in the best interest of Peanut.
Peanut is a true "peanut" weighing in at just over 2.5lbs. She's a TINY yorkie with a GIANT heart and zes

āļøāļø Please STOP what you are doing and share this video to help Yeah Yeah (Flynn) find his forever home! āļøāļø
Yeah Yeah was born in rescue last June. He has been overlooked time and time again due to his heart condition and has had ZERO applications. Our hearts are breaking for this sweet and very smart boy as even though Yeah Yeah's heart isn't normal, it holds so much LOVE to give to his family. He's a very special boy!
Yeah Yeah is on daily medication for his heart condition and it is being managed beautifully! He is looking for a family that understands how special he is and will ensure he continues to receive his medication and exercise to keep him in tip top shape. His prognosis with a well managed plan looks good and he is looking for a special someone to show him all that life has to offer!
Please visit his profile to view detailed information and apply to bring this special boy home!
Yeah Yeah pictured below is on the right. He has previously gone through a stay and train program with Nerdy K9 Academy to establish a great foundation for basic obedience. He knows several basic commands, is potty trained, crate trained, and gets along fabulously with any dogs and people that he has met!
