We had three sick community cats in the last seven days that needed our help. Last weekend it was a cat who had lost weight and was acting weak. As soon as we got there we rushed Tabby to urgent care. Exam and bloodwork found she was in kidney failure, severely anemic and suffering. Unfortunately the kindest thing we could do was to have her humanely euthanized.
Big Boy is part of a large well maintained public family of ear tipped cats. He went missing for a week and came back lethargic with a bad eye infection. We had him sedated, a thorough exam and bloodwork done since he is older, tested negative for leukemia, antibiotics, pain medication, fluids, B12, flea medication, update rabies vaccine and he is resting and recovering with us before he returns back to his cat family.
Thursday was a very difficult case- a cat from a junkyard in really bad shape who we thought was a female. Her tail appeared weak and she is not able to control her urine or stool. Fortunately PAWS vet in Indian Head was able to fit her in to their busy schedule. After sedation we discovered Ethel was actually Ethan, his testicles were damaged, infected and the wound was full of maggots. He is the sweetest little guy so we are giving him a chance to rest indoors with us and see if he will recover. He was sedated, neutered, tested negative for leukemia and received fluids, B12, antibiotics, pain medication and his rabies vaccine. All of this hard work by our veterinary partners has come at a significant cost to us. Our total vet bills for last week alone was $1842.58. No animal deserves to suffer or die alone outdoors and with your help, we will help when we can. If you would like to donate to our medical fund, there is a link below.
