It’s not often that we have two boxers at the shelter looking for homes but right now we do !

The first brown , white with black muzzle is jaeger . He is a year old and he was given to the shelter because he was too much for his family . He lived with other dogs and children . He is vaccinated , neutered and looking for a forever home .

The second one is Poppy! He is a black and white boxer (mix) and he is so very sweet as well . He is about 6-7 years old and he lived with dogs , cats and kids . He was given to the shelter because his family was moving .

If you are interested in adopting a boxer please fill out the application at www.branfordanimalshelter.org

Meet Gordo ! He is a 4 year old shih tzu mix that is looking for his forever home !

Gordo would prefer to be an only pet and kids 12 years and older . He is a pretty easy going dog but does bark if he sees other dogs ( but he is easily corrected ) Gordo did live with other dogs so in time once he decompresses he may be good with adding another family member .

Gordo is up to date on vaccinations, neutered , heartworm negative and microchipped.

If you are interested in adopting please fill out an application at www.branfordanimalshelter.org

⚠️⚠️PLEASE SHARE ⚠️⚠️

My name is Bo and I am sad and need your help 😔😔

If you read Emorys story ( the post right before this ) you’ll see how she was looked over because of behaviors while at the shelter - well I was actually adopted and returned in 7 days for being “ too much “

I really didn’t get anytime to decompress or learn about a routine or get training . But I really want a forever home . Yes I wanted to go on walks and play and yes I would sometimes run around the house and be in the way but I would learn how to live there with you , if you gave me the chance 😣

I’m becoming very overstimulated at the shelter now ( which is quite typical of dogs taken home and returned )

They sometimes come back and begin acting depressed and won’t play .
🥲
Bo is now barking at other dogs and he’d prefer a home without cats . He will likely do best as an only pet until he decompresses and understands his routine.

Bo says please give me a chance …. I desperately want a forever home . Bo is 1-2 years old ,he is currently undergoing treatment for heartworm , he is up to date on vaccinations and he is a yellow lab mix . Bo likes kids he’s met at the shelter .

It's not uncommon that animals are judged in animal shelters both by their behavior and appearance.

Emory is a perfect example of this. First photo is her at shelter - Second is at home.
She is a black pit bull mix and she would jump in the kennel and pull on the leash when she would first get out of her kennel. Visitors would say " Oh wow she is hyper- I don't want a dog like that" or " Look at her -
she's a pitbull "

What people need to be cognizant of is every animal at an animal shelter is going to display differently than they would in a home environment. Even once they first get home, it can take 3 full months before they fully decompress and understand the new routine and that this is their forever family. Don't write an animal off because of their color or their breed or their initial behaviors- ask questions of the staff at the animal shelter, ask to bring in a dog trainer to help you evaluate them and see if they will be a good fit and do research about dogs at shelters to understand what they are going through.

Emory was in a shelter setting for over a year....That is -until her forever family came forward and saw exactly what we could see -which is that she is a wonderful dog with a sweet personality who just needed some decompression time to calm down and understand her routine. You can see the calm, safe feeling in her face from the picture at home. Thank you to her wonderful family for adopting and to all of you for sharing her story and for helping us find her forever family 🐶🏡♥️

We want to continue to put out the message that it is NOT ok to leave animals outside with the upcoming weather conditions .

If you are taking your dog out - STAY WITH THEM - while they are going to the bathroom . KEEP CATS INSIDE ! Bring outdoor pets such as rabbits living in outdoor hutches in - whether to your garage or basement etc .

Wind chill ranging from 0 to -15 can cause frostbite in 30 minutes . Paw pads are no different - dogs and cats and bunnies etc are capable of freezing to death , EVEN IF YOU PROVIDE A DOG HOUSE ! Not to be gory but If you have questions about this google dog freezes to death in dog house in CT .

If you see something , PLEASE SAY SOMETHING and if you see wildlife struggling please go to ahnow.org for resources and guidance .

Some other helpful sites are cwrawildlife.org or hotlineforwildlife.org

For domestic animals call your local animal control in your community ! If they are not answering or responding contact your local police Department. If you do not have either contact the State Police .

If you need further assistance you can reach out to

[email protected]

Or the State Animal Control Unit 860-713-2506

Or 211.org for other information

People can also contact us for guidance if they have questions at 203-315-4125

⚠️PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT ⚠️

This upcoming week is not only going to include snow but also with windchills down to possibly -15.

For most of us ( if not all of our followers ) - we understand the importance of keeping animals indoors during extreme weather conditions . However there are those within our state that do not realize how quickly animals can get frostbite or hypothermia from the cold .

We need all of us to keep our eyes open for our furry friends who are left outdoors . And if you hear dogs barking incessantly or cats crying please do not ignore it - PLEASE TAKE ACTION ⚠️

If you see animals outside for longer then 15 minutes with no owner or keeper present - Contact your local Animal Control Department or your local Police Department. If your community does not have either contact State Police. If you have the ability and it’s safe to do so , please help the animal if you are not getting any responses from authorities. With extreme weather conditions that we are expecting , time is of the essence. Please be their voice 🐶❤️🐈❤️🐰❤️🐾

⚠️UPDATE ⚠️

We have located the rescue this dog was originally adopted from and it’s our friends from Vintage Pet Rescue . We , unfortunately, we’re not given any paperwork or told by the person releasing him where he was from
( other then a Texas kill shelter) . But a third party reached out to us with some knowledge of where the dog originated from . Vintage Pet Rescue will be taking him back and will handle the adoption once they clear him medically . Anyone interested in adopting him should reach out to Vintage after this week at vintagepetrescue.org

We take in so many amazing donations from people and we are so grateful to all of you who help us 🤗

However this past weekend was a bit unusual… a woman walked in to the shelter stating that she had a “donation “ to the animal shelter and you can imagine our surprise when her donation was her dog
( which she had in her car ) .
🤔that’s not exactly how donations work🤔

Her reasoning for giving up her dog ?

Come on !! You’ll never guess !!!

🤔Her house was too cold 🤔

Anyways this poor little fella has had a terrible life … he was apparently originally from Texas at a high kill shelter . He was brought in there as a euthanasia request according to his paperwork 😔

He was then pulled from there by a rescue up north and was adopted from there to this woman who only had him for 4 months and then donated him here .

This is Vinnie ! He is an 11 year old chihuahua and he is currently with one of our volunteers in a foster home . Vinnie is good with other dogs and is working on house training and crate training .

Please Facebook friends make this magic happen as you always do with networking these animals so we can find Vinnie his real forever home and family.

How did the bed explode ?

🤔 hmmmm no one seems to know 🤣🤣

Except Marlow seems to be telling on Magoo 😃!

Mallard is in the back minding his own business 🐶❤️

All 3 of these dogs are up for adoption and are eagerly awaiting forever homes . Their best fit
would be with other dogs , active families and patient loving kind people. They can be scared at first but warm up easily . They are between 40-50 pounds , all males neutered , vaccinated, heartworm negative and microchipped and are likely hound cattle dog mixes .

They are about 8-9 months old . If you are interested in adopting please fill out an application at www.branfordanimalshelter.org

Sometimes this job is really difficult especially when you love animals as much as we do.

Sometimes we can’t save them or we get there too late or we find out about a situation after the fact and we can’t help. It breaks our hearts .

But sometimes we catch them right on time . Sometimes they come to us with a body condition score of 1 and are hand shy . Sometimes it nearly takes an entire year of rehabilitation but we fix them and it’s always because of all of you who support us .

Take a look at Chip now . Almost a year ago he was abandoned in horrendous condition . But now a year later he is snoring on a couch like a chubby couch potato with a family who adores him .

All of these fairytales happen because you donate , network and support us so thank you !

Thank you for caring as much as we do , thank you for following all of these stories from beginning to end and thank you for believing in dogs like Chip that he will rehabilitate and not only survive but thrive 🐶♥️

Love you Chippy ! And thank you to his amazing family fir these awesome updates !

We wanted to share a wonderful update on Dasher .. the FIP kitty that was abandoned outside .

He is doing amazing on his medications ! We want to send such a heartfelt thank you to all of you who have donated because you have literally saved his life !

Kitties like Dasher who were likely indoor kitties and then thrown outside when someone moves or gets divorced or has children or the cat starts spraying ( due to not being altered ) - these kitties don’t understand what’s happening to them . They certainly don’t understand how to live outside . Many of them get sick , hurt by predators or hit by cars . Dasher was one of the lucky ones because he was scooped up and saved !

We just want you all to know how appreciative we are for your donations , support and well wishes ! Dasher is on the road to recovery 🐈❤️
