🌟Success Story🌟 This is Dexter, he came to us with sever pneumonia, he was a pretty sick kitty. While hospitalized here his little hooman children wrote him letters and made him cards, which I'm sure added to his recovery. Honestly, it was the cutest thing ever. Today, Dexter is happy, healthy and back home with his little hooman fan club.

March is National Heartworm Awareness Month!

For the month of March, you will receive a:

Did you know that heartworms are spread by mosquitos? With the weather FINALLY starting to warm up, that unfortunately means the mosquitos are starting to come out...

Even if you have indoor dogs that only go on potty pads, they are still susceptible to heartworms. I'm sure you, like all of us, have been bitten by those pesky mosquitos in our homes!

As you can see by the map below from 2022 (they should be coming out with a new map this year) our little area in Missouri is in a HOT SPOT and it has continued to get worse over the years! Clinics in our area see on average 26-50 cases of heartworm disease per year. We are suspecting that we will move into the 51-100 bracket when the new map comes out.

Heartworms cause irreversible damage to the lungs and heart. If left untreated, it is FATAL.

The average cost for heartworm prevention is ONLY $150 per year. On top of the irreversible damage, if your pet is diagnosed with heartworms, the cost for treatment is around $1500-$2000 and takes 3-6 months. Plus they will need to be on prevention during treatment and for the rest of their lives to prevent reinfection.

The American Heartworm Society recommends annual heartworm testing, even if your pet has been on prevention year round. Many of the companies that make heartworm preventions(all the ones we carry in house) have 100% guarantee and will pay for the heartworm treatment if your pet happens to come up positive after being on prevention year round.

🌟Pet Of The Month🌟 This months pet was nominated by Vicki Benes, our Office Manager. This is Betty and Betty's story is one of strength and survival. She was found at an abandoned house, no food or water or shelter, she had a broken leg and Parvo and later was diagnosed with heart issues. Betty gives very powerful love to anyone who will allow it, especially her brother Arlo (pictured with her) Betty is well known for her willingness to love and play hard. She is one cool gal and the most loyal fur-baby! We are so glad Betty's story has an amazing ending.
