Went out to Taney County Animal Control to pull 2 dogs, ended up finding 4 great dogs! All of them are fully vetted and ready to be adopted. They have several more we want to pull, but some of these will need to be adopted first to make room.

If You Think Shelter Cats are Expensive, Wait Until You See the Price of a FREE One!

How many times have you seen a post like this?

Wanted Free Kitten -- We are a loving family and will be a great home for a kitten. We went to the shelter last week and they want $125 for a kitten! That is outrageous. Who can afford to pay that for a kitten? That is way beyond our budget, so we are hoping for a free kitten.

When I saw this post on NextDoor there were already several responses from people offering free or "inexpensive" kittens. One woman proudly claimed that she lets her cats have kittens as a "community service for people who can't afford the insane shelter adoption fees."

Are rescue and shelter adoption fees unreasonable? Several years ago, my coworker "Annie" chose to adopt a free kitten to save money. She knew I was involved in rescue and asked me for recommendations for affordable vaccines and altering. Annie was certain that a free kitten was going to save her a lot of money. Since money was very tight in her household, I had her make an appointment at Feral Cat Spay Neuter Project for the kitten's spay. The cost for spay, initial vaccines, microchipping and treatment for parasites were going to be only $100. A bargain! But she still needed combo testing and follow up rabies and FVRCP vaccines. That was going to add another $125 to her total. At $225, this was more than the adoption fee for a fully vetted kitten. But before she could take her in to be spayed her free kitten became very ill. She spent over $1,200 trying to save her life.

What are the costs in your community? In our area, adoption fees for fully vetted kittens tend to run between $100 and $150. This includes a wellness exam, age-appropriate vaccines, treatment for fleas and worms, spay / neuter, FIV / FeLV testing and microchipping.

We are fortunate to have low-cost options in our community, but most areas aren't so lucky. At a regular vet clinic, expect to pay $250 on the low end and up to $800 for more expensive clinics. If your free kitten has a common health issue like an upper respiratory illness, add $150 to $500 to your total. For a major medical issue, it could be thousands.

If you know someone interested in adding a kitten or two to their family, be sure to tell them that they can save money by adopting from a local shelter or rescue. If they are skeptical, encourage them to call their vet and find out the fees ahead of time. Free kittens contribute to the homeless cat population in our country because their uninformed adopters don't realize the costs of vet care. If you can't afford the adoption fee for a spayed and vaccinated kitten, you absolutely can't afford a free kitten!

We have several very scared, semi-feral kitties at the moment. We could really use some of these "hissy" sticks. 😂🐈‍⬛️💕 They are called Churu. It's like crack for cats. They make even the most hateful cats quiet for a minute. It's a tube that you push the "soft treat" up. Like Go-Gurt for kids.

She brought Ford in to meet us and see the cats. He's a foreign exchange student from Thailand that's staying with Carmen's family.

We want to wish Ashley Hurst a Happy Birthday!! She's the City of Branson's Animal Control Officer. She was out trapping spicy & sweet kitties today on her birthday. 🐈‍⬛️🎉🎂

We will always be thankful for her dedication in trapping Foxy, the Shiba, for us. Foxy lived up to her name. She was sly as a fox. Ashley tracked her for 3 weeks before she gained her trust. 💕

We got an update today from Finn. Foxy barked for the first time this month. It's been over a year since she was adopted.

Sasha is an owner surrender. She's declawed on all 4 feet. She will probably be going to Mochas and Meows Cat Cafe and Adoption Center - Branson, Missouri so Mary can help address any possible behavior problems she may have because of her being declawed.

Please, please DON'T declaw your cat.

New dog alert! All 3 dogs are owner surrenders. Please no negative comments. All 3 owners were crying when they brought them in. It's never an easy decision to rehome your pet. But we will look for the best possible home of all three dogs.

Gravel is an 18 month old male pomeranian. He's scheduled to be neutered on Monday.

Isabella is a 4 year old female yorkie x Maltese. She favors men over women. Her dad died recently.

Koko is a 10 month old male cocker spaniel.

We will be taking applications on them through Wednesday to be sure we get them the best home.

We are open from noon to 4 pm, Monday through Saturday.

Holly has some awesome whiskers!

This is Micha playing with his foster friends on the first day out of the shelter into a weekend foster vacation. Look at how happy and how excited he is to be playing. His foster mom said he did great with the other dogs in the house. He's not aggressive at all and didn't have an accident at all. Great dog!!

Please keep Popeye, this sweet orange kitten, in your thoughts and prayers today. We rescued him yesterday from Taney County Animal Control where they kept him safe until help could be found. Today, he’s headed to Rescue One Medical Facility to have his eye removed. Their staff always goes above and beyond to help animals and other rescues. We are incredibly grateful to both organizations for helping him. Popeye is going to feel so much better soon.

Sage LOVES water. They had just cleaned out the pool and added fresh water. He steps in and immediately "claims" the pool. 🤣🤦‍♀️

Since it was raining, the dogs got to have a free for all in the dog room. They played tag a war with the stuffie.

Pickles (Alicia's dog) playing with Ducky. Ducky was a bottle baby that became a foster kitten to Stellaluna. He's doing great! And gives Pickles a run for her money.

This is how Socks tells us 'it's time for us to feed her again!" She picks up her pink stuffie and talks to us. 💕💕 She is our 16 yr old office cat that belonged to Barb. We love her and her sassy ways.

Nerf and Lulu can't decide if they want to bay or bark. Kinda a combination of both.

Scooby is such a great dog (so is Midnight!). We don't know why they haven't found their new forever homes! Please share so we can get these two adopted! P.S. They are NOT a bonded pair, they just like to play together. 🩷💜🩷

“She (Cookie) is doing well, and is comfortable with us now. We give her alot of attention and pets but its never enough for her. Once we put her down she starts meowing wanting to be picked up again. Also, it took a bit to find a toy she likes (which is a tin foil ball) but its so cute seeing her run around the house like a kitten, most of the time though she on the couch in her spot while we watch tv or read. We got her a new set up for her food and water because she can be a bit messy when eatting and drinking.” #adoptdontshop❤️ #happytails🐾

Meet Gretzky. He's a extremely affectionate male cat. He tested positive for FIV so he will need to be an indoor cat only. FIV is an feline virus similar to HIV in humans. It can only be transferred to other cats.
