Rabies Awareness & Prevention 🐾
We want to share a quick, informational update to help keep our community and pets safe.
Recently, two rabies cases have been confirmed in Greene County, including one involving a skunk near Fellows Lake. Health officials note that while this may sound concerning, the overall risk to the general public remains low.
The good news: rabies is completely preventable with simple, proactive steps—especially vaccination.
Why rabies vaccination matters:
• It is the only proven way to protect pets from rabies.
• It helps prevent potential exposure to people and other animals.
• It is required by law in many areas and is a routine part of pet wellness.
Simple ways to reduce risk:
✔ Keep pets up to date on rabies vaccinations
✔ Avoid contact with wildlife like skunks, bats, and raccoons
✔ Supervise pets outdoors, especially during dawn/dusk hours
✔ Bring food and water bowls indoors to avoid attracting wildlife.
Rabies is something we take seriously—but not something to panic about. With awareness and routine prevention, we can continue to keep our pets and community safe.
