Long post…. So here goes. I wasn’t going to react but with only 2 hours of sleep from stressing out, I’m going to.. We start our day.. Ed and I at 4:30 every single morning 7 days a week. Ed walks to the kennel at 5:30 sharp and I head there 15 minutes later. We feed, clean.. and care for every single dog boarding. Ed heads to work on weekdays and I take on doggy daycare and groom. Our day doesn’t end until 6:30-7:00 every night and we do it all over again come morning. We are super clean and very proud of it.
As many of you read we had kennel cough come into our kennel. It hits kennels, doggy daycares, vet offices and dog parks every single year. Our first 2 years running the kennel we were clueless as to how contagious it was and how we didn’t even know it was going around until a week or so after boarding dogs went home. The last 2 years we post about the importance of Bordetella and speak on the phone daily with people about it. Winter and Fall it’s rare for us, come spring and summer… game on… it comes in and out all summer. So if someone asks do we have it.. we can only say if a dog is showing coughing symptoms or isn’t. But just know they can have it and we won’t know until they are home. Then the dog mom may call and say they have coughed. We tell them before they board and daycare and groom, they need it. We tell them Tractor Supply brings in a crew on certain weekends, vets, and we have the vaccine.
I have posted online many times over of the importance of the vaccine. I also ask on the phone every single time.
With all of this being said…. My thoughts this morning was 3 options.
#1. Drop the price drastically on the home and business and train someone to groom and finally retire and move to our little house across the road in the woods.
#2. Only groom boarding and Doggy Daycare Dogs knowing they absolutely have Bordetella vaccinations every 6 months. Referring the only grooming dogs to Pets First Choice, Julie Malone and Julie Eggleston who are amazing.
#3. Keep doing what Ed and I do and hope more people actually get an updated vaccine every 6-8 months like we ask.
I’m not looking for sympathy, nor a Pat on the back for what we do…but I do hope that whoever tries to stress me out in the future will get massive diarrhea every single day for the 6-8 months that they should have gotten their beloved dogs their bordetella vaccine.
P.S. I LOVE OPTION #1️
