🌱 Aloe Lovers, I Need Your Tips! 🌱

After thinning out my aloe clump, I repotted the babies (they’re thriving in their new homes!) but now I’ve got a pile of aloe “leaves” (or whatever these amazing succulent blades are technically called) ready to be put to good use.

What are your go-to uses for extra aloe?

✨ Skincare recipes?
✨ Natural remedies?
✨ Gardening or compost hacks?

Let’s get creative with this green goodness! 💚

🌟 Reflecting on 2024: Gratitude and Vision 🌟

As the Founder and Executive Director of Vital Roots Foundation, I’m filled with gratitude for everyone who has supported us this year. While we’re just beginning, every step we’ve taken brings us closer to our mission: to stop veteran su***de by fostering healing, purpose, and connection through nature and community.

2024 Highlights:
🌱 Formed Vital Roots Foundation, held our first board meeting, and filed for 501(c)(3) status.
🌱 Partnered with a local school to provide seed starting kits to 13 classrooms.
🌱 Traveled with local veterans to Costa Rica to explore the healing power of nature and dream big about creating a permaculture education farm and wellness retreat center.
🌱 Provided peer support to veterans, helping them find peace in gardening, navigate the VA claims process, and connect with local resources.

Looking Ahead to 2025:
🌿 Build 4 gardens for local veterans.
🌿 Provide seed starting kits to 4 more schools.
🌿 Host veteran groups in Costa Rica to work on our retreat project.
🌿 Expand peer support and community impact.

Every seed we plant is rooted in our commitment to preventing veteran su***de and building a brighter future.

Nature’s Tiny Architects?

GUYS, I think I just found the coolest thing ever in my backyard—a possible praying mantis egg sac! It's perched all snug on my cranberry hibiscus, right next to my pigeon pea plant, where I’ve been watching a mantis grow up like some proud parent.

Is it really an egg sac, though? Did the mantis I’ve been spying on settle down and leave this gift of future pest control ninjas? Or am I just getting carried away by backyard biology?

Do you think I’m about to have a springtime explosion of baby mantises, or is this just some random plant fluff laughing at my excitement?

Either way, nature’s amazing, right? If you know mantis egg sacs—or just want to share in my excitement—drop a comment! Because honestly, the thought of 100+ tiny mantises ruling my garden next season is kind of the coolest thing ever.

When Abundance Meets Community 🌿✨

There’s a beautiful saying: “When you have more than you need, build a longer table rather than a higher fence.” It’s a gentle reminder that abundance isn’t just about having plenty; it’s about sharing and strengthening connections. 💛

Imagine a garden overflowing with fresh veggies, juicy fruits, and fragrant herbs. Instead of hoarding, why not share the bounty? Invite your neighbours, friends, and family to your table. Let food be the bridge that connects and nurtures our bellies and relationships.

This is the heart of permaculture—working with nature to create abundance and community. Because when we share, we all grow stronger. 🌱

Let’s celebrate generosity and the simple joys of sharing. Who would you invite to your table today? 🥗🌍

🌿 A Misunderstanding with an Egret 🐦✨

This afternoon, I noticed a shadow out of the corner of my eye, and to my surprise, a white egret had landed gracefully on the lawn! Naturally, I tried to identify it using a bird app on my phone and even played the egret’s call to confirm.

Big mistake. The egret made eye contact with me, clearly unimpressed, and flew away immediately. Did I offend it with my imitation? Perhaps I’ll never know. 😂

Nature’s full of surprises, even if they don’t always stick around! Have you ever had a wildlife encounter like this? Share your stories—I’d love to hear them!

🌿 A Morning Visit from a Hummingbird! 🌿

This morning, I was lucky to be in the right place at the right time to catch a quick video of a hummingbird enjoying our cranberry hibiscus and pigeon pea plants. 🌸🐦

I absolutely love seeing the diversity that perennial plants bring to the garden. Not only do they support pollinators like this little visitor, but they also help create a thriving, balanced ecosystem.

Moments like this remind me why I garden—to connect with nature and watch life flourish. Have you seen any special visitors in your garden lately? Let us know!

🌿 Banana Peels for the Win! 🍌 🌿

Our upcycled vertical garden just got an upgrade! Today, I added chopped-up banana peels into the perforated pipe for a nutrient-packed composting boost. 🌱 These scraps will break down right inside the barrel, feeding the soil and helping our plants thrive!

To keep flying insects and critters out, I placed a 10-inch clay pot base over the composting pipe—simple, effective, and sustainable. 🌍

Small hacks like these make gardening not only productive but also fun and eco-friendly. Have you tried composting in your vertical gardens? Let us know your favorite garden tips!

🌙 Caught in the Act! 🐇🌱

Last night during a stroll through the garden, I discovered I’m not the only one enjoying the fruits (and veggies) of my labor. Meet my new “garden buddy,” a rabbit who was caught red-handed—or should I say red-pawed—under the flashlight!

Looks like I’m not just sharing my garden with plants, but also with some unexpected guests. 🐾 Guess it’s time to negotiate a little garden-sharing agreement!

Anyone else discovering unexpected visitors in their gardens? Share your stories below!
