Anybody that lives in Michigan and wants a skunk must first apply for a permit through the dnr. Wildlife in captivity permit. Without this you cannot purchase a skunk. Also Michiganders must buy a skunk from a Michigan breeder. Not a store in Michigan there skunks come from different states.

I’ve had some people ask how my breeder skunks handle the cold. So I want to post a video to show the outside den area. The skunks do extremely well throughout the winter. In the video you will see a barrel with rubber flaps covering the entry. The barrel is to give them a place to eat and use the bathroom without being in the snow and weather. The video will also show you the inside of the barrel. You will see a tunnel entrance going into the actual den. The reason for the tunnel is to give them a feeling of there natural instinct of going through a tunnel into a den. There are also rubber flaps on the tunnel entrance. These flaps are an extra protection from draft. The den floor is covered with shavings and the rest of the den is completely full of straw. They burrow in the straw making themselves a really nice bedding area. I didn’t want to open the den door to show the inside due to the weather and being breeding season it’s best to not disturb them.

I just want to thank my husband; for all the hard work he does for me. In the winter I cannot do the skunks chores cause I can’t handle the cold (tightens up my lungs where I can’t breathe). So he does them!! Thanks love you’re appreciated!!!

Time is getting close to breeding if not already. Just know everyone that has gotten ahold of me is on the waiting list. Don’t know who will be getting one this year due to the fact we never know how many skunks will be born. Just know if you don’t get one this year next year for sure. Thank you
