(12)

We ask that you please book your appointments about a week in advanced so we have time to plan! Pair O' Docs Farm is a horse farm located on 80 acres of scenic trails in Bremen (aka, Bugtussle), between Cullman and Jasper in north central Alabama. It is owned by Drs. Trygve Tollefsbol and Lucy Andrews, a pair of PhDs (hence the name, Pair O' Docs). We offer pasture boarding, trail riding, Western

and English pleasure instruction and horses for sale or lease. We have a trainer and a farrier to keep the horses' hooves trimmed and to work on training issues they may have. We have a variety of breeds and ages of horses including spotted saddle horse, Paso Fino, racking horse, Tennessee Walking Horse and quarter horse. Some are proven broodmares. We have a round pen for lessons and an arena area that is large enough for barrel racing or dressage training. There are enough trails to ride a couple hours without running out of new scenery. The trails include stream crossings, hills to climb and large open spaces as well as shady tree-lined two-horse-wide trails. We care about your safety and can provide helmets for a limited number of riders (bring your own ASTM-approved helmet if you have one!). Shoes or boots with a heel are recommended. We train for a gentle, people-loving temperament and a smooth ride. Our trainer uses gentle natural horsemanship methods which results in a calm, trusting horse that wants to please his rider. Call or text us at 256-287-1694 (home, leave message), 256-339-7327 (cell, text) or email us at [email protected] for answers to any questions you may have. For appointments for lessons or trail rides, call Pam Avery (951-440-4343).

We are looking for a temporary instructor (until March) to teach our present students and our future students we need someone who has afternoons and weekends available, has the knowledge to teach basics of walk trot canter for English and western riders, and also have the availability and knowledge to teach jumping, barrel racing and pole bending at the least, but more knowledge will also be useful. we also need someone who is flexible with their hours and reliable, and can handle scheduling their own students. Also someone who can keep up with everything to give to our manager and go by our rules and regulations. We need someone who is able to teach any level from beginner (someone who’s never gotten on a horse before) to advanced (someone who is ready to start competing, etc). Believes you will see photos of the requirements we have for the job and also some information of what will have you do for a training period before we let you teach on your own. If you are interested, please text or call our manager Gabby at 256-636-7064.

“Horses need horsemen. It's that simple. I get asked the same questions over and over again and nobody gets it. “What level rider is this horse suitable for?” I'll tell you, the best one he can get, the best horseman who is willing to buy him. The horse will only ever be as good as the rider. It doesn't matter if he is trained to jump hoops of fire; you're going to bring him down to your level in no time. Your kid doesn't need a $15,000 horse if he hasn’t already had $15,000 worth of lessons. You can't buy a violin that will gift you the skill of playing. It's the same for horses. There is no magic horse; only a love for the animal and a commitment to learning.

Most of you are so unfair and demanding of the horse, you miss the forest for the trees. "I want a horse who rides out alone!!" Well, guess what? You better be ready to spend a year developing that relationship, that bond, that trust. He is not a bike; you can't buy trust.

“I want a horse who can sit and be the same after time off.” Well friend, this is a commitment to a relationship, not a classic car you take out of the garage twice a year. You can't buy what you’re looking for.

"I want a horse my kids can ride.” You better be ready to teach your kids how to be horsemen, because if the horse has to do it, you'll likely see the inside of an ambulance or a morgue.

You can't buy trust. You cannot buy what comes with building a relationship with an animal over years of dedication.”

This is so true!
