You guys! It just keeps getting better and better! These kids have just risen above and beyond, and improving leaps and bounds!

Sophie and Maude won high point, bringing home a buckle!

Elliot ran her first gymkhana with Nugget today placing third over all!

Jazmine and Bean placed second over all in their division!

Patrick and Lollipop also placed second over all in their division too!

Rose and Piper placed third over all in their division!

Addy and Jack are running so much faster and getting confident.

Caitlin and Sorchia over came so much and gave it thier all!

Brooke and Gunner did amazing, working on getting over gate issues!

Savannah and Reba placed in every single event!

Adrianna and Fancy have come so far and placed in all of their events too!

Mikaela and Mimosa had to over come so much but she stuck with her and got her through all of the patterns!

Kayla and Hope completed their first gymkhana today and took everything in stride and did so great!

Natalie and Pebbles ran som of their fastest times bringing home so many ribbons!

Shelby and Otter conquered all of the patterns even the ones that made her nervous!!

"Stop whipping your barrel horses..

Barrel racers who whip your horses between the barrels or on the way out, STOP doing it. What you don't understand is that when you whip it, you are actually slowing it down - it will try to tuck its butt to keep from being whipped the same as you would do ( Yes, it's been proven ).
Furthermore, all of your whipping and moving around affects your horse's motion and momentum which slows it down even more. So, learn to ride your horse in a balanced manner and "stay out of its way" so that it can run its best. Think of racehorses: they run the entire track and may only get whipped a few strides the entire race because the jockey stays out of the way and lets the horse run.
So, as for your horse, stop whipping it to make it run faster. If he loves his job, he's probably running as fast as he can already ❤️"

So so proud of all these kiddos! They had to brave their first barrel race without me (sick with a cold) and they ABSOLUTELY SHOWED UP! They all kicked booty today! My heart is bursting! 💗💗

About Kate Pence

My name is Kate Pence and I have been riding and training horses for 25+ years.

Over the years I have had the privilege of riding and studying under some amazing trainers. I started learning to ride under the instruction of my mother Judy Pence, who has a bachelors degree in animal science and was a star rider in the Cal Poly San Luis Obispo c**t starting program and barn manager at a premier Arabian show barn.

When I was 13 I started training with David Ventura, a well known Dressage trainer in the Brentwood, CA area. I rode with him for 15 years learning to communicate with horses through seat and leg commands instead of pulling on their face and mouth. From there I went to ride with my aunt, Rebecca Pence who helped me become a better Hunter/Jumper, schooling me to my first, first place ribbon in the jumping arena.

I then became interested in barrel racing and started training my AQHA mare, from there we went on to compete in NBHA for 3 seasons going to state finals twice. My mare and I won belt buckles and a championship saddle together. After retiring my mare I started training her daughter in, yet another discipline under the instruction of Anthony Peixoto, a talented and amazing cutting trainer. I have been riding and training with him for the past three years and still continue to do so.
