Thank you so much you everyone to donated and shared Cowboy's post yesterday. He is a little jumpy right now and VERY excited about his food, but thanks to all of you he is now here and he can be sure to spend his final days as relaxed, happy, and as comfortable as we can possibly make him with daily equioxx, all the alfalfa he can eat and a comfy stall to enjoy 💗💕💗

✨Update✨ All funds towards euthanasia have been raised, thank you so much to everyone who donated and shared this post ❤️ Any additional funds raised will be put towards giving him the happiest, most comfortable final days we can possibly give him with a full belly of alfalfa, a soft bed of shavings, and some pain relief on equioxx ❤️
A local horse has been abandoned and we are asking for help in offering him a peaceful passing.
This poor older stallion has been abandoned by his owner and is now left without many options. He is old and broken down, with obvious signs of severe ringbone and hind suspensory damage along with horrible scars on his hock and hind legs. He also has what appears to be pinfiring on the left side of his belly. To make it worse this poor horse was being ridden up until the point that he was abandoned and is still wearing four shoes which are long overgrown. We have been given the opportunity to take this horse in to provide him with a peaceful passing if we can raise the funds in the next few days, otherwise he will be sold to Don Gatz the next time he is in the area (he is the local "horse trader" please look him up if you don't know who he is). This horse has worked hard his entire life and deserves a kind dignified end of life which we would like to help provide him with but we can't do this without your help. Unfortunately this is very expensive here in the bay area. Our vet is willing to provide euthanasia at a reduced rate of $250 but we cannot escape the huge disposal fee which is $775. If we could also provide him with a few bales of alfalfa until our vet is able to come out that would be amazing as well but the immediate need is for $1025 in order to help this sweet old man.

✨ Sponsors Needed ✨
This mare has been boarded here for 2 years but sadly her owner has run out of funds and has scheduled to have her euthanized tomorrow 2/19 at 11am.
They have chosen not to rehome her due to the fact that she is difficult to handle and do not want her to end up in a bad situation. However, they have agreed to let us take her into the rescue here at DHH, but we can only do this if we can find enough people to commit to a monthly tax deductable donation to cover her board which is $550 per month.
If you would like to contribute to her monthly board bill/cost of care, all you have to do is go to our website www.diablohorsehaven.org and click on donate, choose the monthly option and choose any dollar amount you would like to commit to. If we are unable to raise enough money we will be happy to refund any donations sent. We will keep everyone updated if we are able to raise the funds for this beautiful, healthy, young mare by 11am tomorrow.

✨✨ Update✨✨
Thank you so much to everyone who donated. Several people sent in a one time donation which has helped pay for her care through March. This has allowed us the ability to have a bit more time to try to find enough people who are willing to commit to a monthly donation ($530 still needed) to sponsor her to be able to take her into our rescue.

✨Courtesy Post✨
This is a local horse in need of rescue ASAP, this is not a DHH horse.
We have been alerted to a sweet older quarter horse gelding in desperate need of a new home. He is covered in rain rot and very thin. He is super sweet, easy to handle on the ground and safe for anyone to ride, however at this point in his life he should only be used for very light riding at most once he is rehabbed back to a healthy weight again due to the fact that he clearly has some arthritis in his knees. If you would like to help El Regalo and think he would make a good addition to your family please contact us immediately. His rehoming fee is $850

DHH has offered to provide feed for El Regalo until a new home can be found. If anyone would like to donate towards his feed bill funds can be sent through Venmo: DiabloHorseHaven
or PayPal: https://PayPal.me/diablohorsehaven1

*Update* As of this morning we have raised enough funds to be able to purchase Catrin ❤️ I cannot thank everyone enough who has donated and shared this post so that this wonderful horse can stay here at DHH ❤️ We do still need funds to have him gelded, vaccinated, dewormed, to have his feet done, he will likely need a round of adequan and some joint injections to stay comfortable and we would like to possibly treat him for ulcers, but our immediate need to raise enough money to purchase him by Monday has been met and we are extremely thankful for that ❤️
We have been given until Monday to raise the funds for this very sweet 17yr old andalusian stallion who has spent his life as a dancing horse. Would anyone be willing to help us help this very deserving horse out? He has worked very hard his whole life and has the scars to prove it, he deserves a soft landing where he can take it easy and get all the love, care, vet work, and food that he needs and we would love to be able to provide that for him with your help. We need to raise $3000 to purchase him and will need to raise additional funds to have him gelded and for any other vet/farrier work he may need. If you would like to help, you can send a tax deductible donation through venmo:

15.2h 6yr bay mare, unraced, currently at Santa Anita. Her owners and trainer say she is sound but her heart just isn't into racing so it's time for her to be placed in a new home so she can move on to her next career. They think she would make a nice WTC hunter or trail horse or with training she could eventually be good for lessons because she is very quiet and calm. PPE are welcome. Vet, farrier, and barn references will be required. Please contact Jeanne Schnell directly if you are interested in her or have any questions.

09/25/2021

I feel like I need to address something that has become an issue over the past several years. People, even rescues, out here in California have been hiring the kill pens (most commonly this is happening with Bowie in Texas) to haul their horses home that they have purchased. The haulers are then filling up their empty trailers with cheap and free horses from California to take back to Texas where they are then advertised. Please take a second to think about the cycle this is creating. Many of the horses that the kill buyer was just paid for and then paid to haul out to California actually came from California in the first place. There is no reason to put these horses through all of this. There are plenty of horses out here that need rescuing locally, there is proof of this because they are showing up on kill pen pages out of state. I have proof of this happening countless times and the horse in this post is just one of those many horses. This poor horse was at local show barn being used as lesson horse and within days he was listed on a kill pen page in Texas. Take a good look at him. He fit right in at the show barn he lived at and just days later he had already declined. By the time he finally made it to his new home looked nothing like the horse that left the fancy show barn not even two weeks ago. He will have a long recovery ahead of him because of what he was put through. This is how fast these horses can deteriorate. And this horse is one of the lucky ones. A couple of months ago a beautiful local andalusian mare ended up at the same kill pen in Texas totally emaciated with laminitis. I have photos of that mare from when she lived in CA and she was far from emaciated. She was in such terrible condition by the time she was purchased at the kill pen that her new owners truly were not sure if she was going to make it. These horses are stuffed in a stock trailer with a bunch of random horses for the long haul to the kill pen, then they're tossed out to sit on the feedlot exposed to all kinds of sickness while getting beat up by all of the other horses on the lot. And if they're sick and injured from all of this they are just left to fend for themselves. And then half of the time they end up having to make another haul all the way back to California so the cycle can continue. This is so hard on these horses, I see it in day in and day out, no horse deserves to be put through this. If you want to buy a horse from out of state that's fine, but please hire your own hauler. And please understand that there are always plenty of horses needing help locally. The hauling of these horses back and forth is only hurting the horses and making the kill buyers rich. So many of these horses could have been helped locally for a fraction of the cost and they wouldn't have ever had to go through all of that trauma from the long haul possibly getting injured and beat up from all of the unfamiliar horses being crammed together and exposed to all kinds of sicknesses. None of these horses deserve this and it could be avoided for so many if more people try to rescue locally. And again, if you do choose to purchase a kill pen horse from out of state please do not hire the hauler for the kill pen to haul your horse long distance. They are going to have an empty trailer to fill on the way home, and they never would have had a reason to be out here if they weren't being paid to haul a trailer full of horses, and half of the horses in that trailer they're being paid to haul is likely full of horses that came from their last trip out here to California.

Azabache needs some time off due to an old sesamoid fracture that was effecting his suspensory so we decided to introduce him to the pasture so that he can enjoy his time off with green grass and friends ❤️ Here he is on his first day outside exploring the pasture and meeting his new friends (he's the black horse in the front) 😊

✨Sponsors needed✨
Can anyone spare a few dollars a month to help support the horses here at DHH? Please consider becoming a monthly sponsor, Bullet needs us and cannot take him in without your help.

We have been asked to take in an ottb named Bullet from a lesson program that can no longer keep him due to soundness issues from a fractured sesamoid and a sarcoid on his side in the saddle/girth area. The only way we can take this sweet, deserving guy in is if we can get some support for the ongoing cost of care for our current residents. Can you help us help Bullet by committing to a monthly tax deductible donation? $17 will buy a bale of hay (this is our biggest monthly expense, our horses, especially our ottbs eat a half-a full bale of hay daily), $50 will pay for a trim, $125 will pay for a set of front shoes, $8 will buy a bag of shavings. Your monthly sponsorship will help us to be able to care for the horses here and allow us to take in more horses that desperately need our help. All you have to do is go to our website www.diablohorsehaven.org and click on donate, choose the monthly option and choose any dollar amount you would like to commit to. Please consider a donation so we can help Bullet ❤️
