Hidden Pond Farm Equine Rescue is a 501(c)(3) organization registered with the IRS as: HPF - Rescue - Rehab - Rehome (tax ID: 47-5424832). The organization was founded in 2014 and incorporated in 2015. For many years Hidden Pond Farm was a staple in the New England horse show community, training and attending breed shows up and down the coast. After several decades of training and showing, Phylli

s found her attention shifting away from prize-winning show horses towards those much less fortunate. Several bouts of research about the horse slaughter industry and she made the decision that her farm would no longer be a show barn, but rather a sanctuary for horses in need. In 2014 Phyllis and a friend launched the Rescue as a simple online fundraising page, raising money for their first rescue trip to a Pennsylvania horse slaughter auction. This simple online fundraiser saw such immense success that the idea to form an official organization was born. As a Rescue organization we follow a simple mission:
.::RESCUE::.. The first goal of of the Rescue is to rescue horses at risk of slaughter through livestock auctions, interagency transfers, and owner surrenders. We accept all horses in any condition, humanely euthanizing those that are too injured or ill to survive. This last act may be difficult to understand, but as an animal rescue we are dedicating to alleviating suffering which unfortunately may come in the form of preventing an animal from living out their remaining hours in fear and pain.
.::REHAB::.. Rescuing horses bound for slaughter is only the first step (not to mention the the least expensive!) Following each rescue we conduct an evaluation of who the horse is and what they will be best suited for in their new life. After identifying these qualities our focus turns to getting them healthy enough to lead that life. This lengthy process can include quarantine, farrier visits, vet visits, training, and lots of emotional TLC.
.::REHOME::.. After rehabilitation our mission shifts towards the most rewarding part of the job, finding each rescue a loving forever home with a well-matched partner.
.::EDUCATE::.. Last but certainly not least, as a rescue organization we aim to educate as many people as possible about the alternatives to horse slaughter. We understand that horse owners often end up in positions where owning a horse is no longer feasible for them. When confronted with this situation we want people to know that the quick and easy solution (auction and/or horse sale) is NOT the answer. We are a resource, a network community, and - if all else fails - we will provide a new, temporary home and second chance for your horse. If you know of anyone who is considering sending their horse to an easy, cheap auction or horse sale please contact us immediately. We cannot do this alone, and therefore it is the overarching goal of Hidden Pond Farm Equine Rescue to spread awareness. We do this with the help of our amazing donors and by networking with other animals rescue groups so that we might all work together for a common goal...to save these amazing animals that have carried us through history.

My 2008 accident has been rearing it's ugly head this past week, bringing exhaustion and frustration. Instead of pushing through, I opted for a few simple road trips. Mary Burnett to Dodge Grain Co. Inc. Jessica Grace Elliott to Myhre Equine Clinic to visit Timcat and a stop to visit Emily Cruz and her farm. Pictured with me sniffing hello is rescue Jack. He first crossed my path being networked by Kelly Smith of Omega Horse Rescue. He was on the scale being weighed and tagged for slaughter. Screaming his lungs out How could I not notice him. Jack came to Hidden Pond Farm Equine Rescue. He was a 3 time adoption fail. Always returned back to us by Cheryl Kelley. I swear each time he stepped off the trailer, he was smiling! He finally went home with Emily. The Love of his life and the one true person that totally understands him! Your rescue horse is out there. Maybe here!www.hiddenpondequinerescue.org

Inspiration

POV: You're 87 and ride as confidently as a 37 year old!

Linda Tellington-Jones is such an inspiration!

Last week she hopped on this lovely Dutch Warmblood mare, at her friends, Libby and Jules Anderson's, Teamwork Dressage facility near her home in Jupiter Farms, Florida.

Linda felt that it was a joy and privilege to ride this wonderful 17 year old mare named Lola, who was trained to the Intermediate Level. Riding more regularly has been something Linda has wanted to do since being back at home. Thanks to her friend, Laurietta Oakleaf, a para dressage rider, this has become a reality!

A common theme Linda noticed while working with sport horses in Europe this fall, was how many lacked the opportunity to really go forward without heavy contact. So she wanted to allow this mare to go up and open with forward flow, and feel the fun in the ride.

Here's aspiring for the rest of us to still be riding with this much joy just a few years shy of 90!

Timcat Hanover. One of the nicest horses we have taken under our wing. Unfortunately he has a cracked tooth that needs to be removed and he is headed to Myhre Equine Clinic this afternoon. Hidden Pond Farm Equine Rescue has received an estimate that could go as high as $5,000.00, If the tooth has to be extracted via the sinus. We are asking for your help. We do have a donor that has pledged a matching gift of $2,500. Please give so we can get this horse to complete heath. www.hiddenpondequinerescue.org/donate Timmy deserves a chance

Say hello to Bubba and Brio!
I am asked, a lot, how do you choose which horse to save? I don't. I get phone calls from owners. Those that need to surrender their horses as they can not longer afford them. Or as in the case of these two, previous owners of horses that get into trouble. That land in the auction/slaughter pipeline. Different owners. Same horrible fate. Until Hidden Pond Farm Equine Rescue gets a call. Together our very generous compassionate village rallies and pulls off another incredible task. My question is how do we end this? My answer is EDUCATION. Along with a very large dose of understanding, coupled with support services. We will get there. Until then, THANK YOU. Thank you donors. Volunteers. Page shares. You make the difference. www.hiddenpondequinerescue.org

Nothing better than updates on horses given a better life in a wonderful home! Rescue Rocks!

Hello Phyllis this is the scared little mare (Willow) now Believe that we adopted through you. She is thriving and living her best life with her best friend Big Pops (also a rescue). We absolutely adore her. She has come out of her shell and has quite a personality. She is a talker, loves a spa day, stands on cross ties for the vet and no longer tries to kill my farrier. We are so very grateful to have her in our lives. Thank you for the incredible work you do for these sweet souls.❤️

NORTHERN DANCER 🏆
Small and stocky, the bonny bay c**t was built more like an old-style Quarter Horse than a sleek Thoroughbred. In 1962, he was offered for $25,000 at his yearling sale. There were no takers. Two years later, in the lead-up to the Kentucky Derby the press poked fun at the c**t’s pint-size (15.1 hands) stature. Then Northern Dancer uncorked a jaw-dropping two-minute flat run breaking the 89-year-old track record and become the first Canadian-born and -bred horse to win the world’s most famous race.

Rescue never sleeps. Such was the case the last couple of days at Hidden Pond Farm Equine Rescue. While we were busy assisting a Standardbred, we found an OTTB, that has breathing issues. That didn't even have a cost on her. She is young. Beautiful. Starved. Lost and alone. A terrible way to live. A terrible way to die. Not in my lifetime! We can at least try. I want to thank all our donors. Page shares. Friends, family Volunteers. YOU make the difference in as many equine lives as we possibly can help. We are forever grateful to all of you ❤️ www.hiddenpondequinerescue.org

Our Story

Hidden Pond Farm Equine Rescue (tax ID: 47-5424832) is a 501(c)(3) organization registered with the IRS as: HPF - Rescue - Rehab - Rehome. The organization was founded in 2014 and incorporated in 2015. Hidden Pond Farm Equine Rescue began with the single click of a computer key, the launch of a GoFundMe campaign, and the rescue of our first horse, Hairy. Shortly thereafter, a trailer load of horses came north to our farm in New Hampshire from the auction at New Holland, Pennsylvania. Our next step was to bail several horses directly from the killpen, which is the last stop before the slaughterhouse. Quickly, our mission became clear: to rescue horses in direct danger of slaughter, rehab them, and rehome them with suitable adopters. Volunteers and foster farms signed on to help, and an organization was born.

Here are the facts: 160,000 American horses are shipped to plants in Canada and Mexico each year, where they are slaughtered for meat to be consumed overseas. They come from show barns, riding schools and camps, private owners and backyards. They might be jumpers, barrel racers, trail horses, backyard companions. Some are stolen or bought by unethical dealers. We have a saying at HPF: Every horse is one sale away from the killpen. It is our goal to save however many we can, to give them a second chance at life.

First, we RESCUE a horse (or horses), by identifying those we believe we can help start a new chapter in life either as companion animals or riding mounts. Occasionally, we rescue a horse that is so injured or sick, the most humane act is to have it euthanized peacefully. In doing so, we prevent the horse from enduring the terror and violence of slaughter.

Second, we REHAB the horse, giving it plenty of food, vet and farrier care, appropriate training, and a lot of emotional TLC. Sometimes the horse just needs time in a pasture with friends. These horses are often traumatized and afraid of people, so a big part of our job is helping them to re-gain trust in humans. During this time, the horse might actually live with one of our hand-picked fosters. Third, when the time is right--and the match is suitable--we REHOME the horse. All potential adopters must complete and sign our adoption contract, which includes stipulations about notifying HPF any time the horse is moved to a different living location. In addition to our rescue-rehab-rehome mission, we strive to EDUCATE the public about the existence of horse slaughter and ways to help owners prevent their horses from sliding into the pipeline. We are a resource, a network community-- if you know of anyone who is struggling to care for their horse or is considering sending a horse through an auction or horse sale, please refer them to us for some possible alternatives. Together we can work toward a common goal: to save these magnificent animals that have carried us through history.
