Please meet Kholt 45 🥰 5 year old registered bay gelding Arabian. Roughly 15.1 hh (will measure soon) Located in beautiful hills of Brentwood, Ca 94513. (Northern) This boy has been allowed the privilege of growing up in a giant pasture with others. He is sensible, sweet as can be and just starting his training. He is a gorgeous mover, extremely intelligent, sound, sensible and a pleasure to work with. He is ready for any disciple, English or western. He has already done so much desensitizing since only April. He is an extremely special boy as he is very sensitive emotionally and as a result attaches really really well with his person that he trusts. I see his condence increasing drastically. He successfully gone through a ton of different desensitizing from hoops hoops with bird tape, bells, dragging obsticals and more. Exposed to cows and does well. Will leave the property with me without looking to go back home. Goes through water and mucky mud very calmly. Walks over a bridge. Has had English and western saddles on him and have started ground driving him. He is still early in his training so I will be super picky about who he goes to. He will make the best horse for anyone willing to put the time and patience into him. He tries very hard and learns very very quickly, if he’s rushed he gets anxious so i am looking for someone for him that has success working with Arabians. And option for me finishing him is open. Price will raise as training increases. UTD on all maintence. Barefoot with good feet. Vet checks welcomed. ☝️,2🏀🏀

Helping a previous customer with his AndalusianThoroughbred. I started this horse as a 3 yr old stud muffin. He was gelded at 3 yrs old. His trot was smooth and he had a lovely uphill canter. He is now 8, I’m not sure how he is currently as I have not seen him in 5 years. I will be connecting prospects with the owner. Please don’t ask me for more pics or videos, this is all I have. ✌️,7🧶🧶. Lives in Brentwood 94513. Video in comments

One of my biggest frustrations in this industry is the lack of understanding and consideration for the role that lesson horses play. So often, I see riders complaining about lesson horses for a huge variety of reasons: for their perceived lack of quality or value, for having to ride one they don’t like, for not getting to ride the one they do like, for their trainer not having enough lesson horses, or for the lesson horses not being available at their convenience when their personal horse is out of commission. I’ve dealt with all of the above and I know I’ll continue to do so, but I think it’s important that people understand the reality of lesson horses, and that’s that they aren’t here for your kid to ride forever and climb the levels with your one or two lesson a week commitment. They’re here to get you started, safely and productively, while you decide just how far you want to take this.

Lesson horses are incredibly special creatures. They have to be easily caught by beginners who don’t know how to properly approach a prey animal. They have to stand like statues on the crossties while tiny kids take the better part of an hour to get them clean. They have to hold their head still while beginners jam the bit into their teeth for the fiftieth time in a row to put the bridle on. They have to stand still at the mounting block while someone stands for too long with all their weight in the left stirrup and then slams down on their back with no consideration for their comfort. They tolerantly teach riders who are unbalanced, uncoordinated, and unclear, who catch their mouths and bounce on their backs and kick at their sides, and every single time, they are expected to just come again without so much as a swish of their tail or pinning of their ears. And any time one of these horses has a moment where they act like a regular horse or force the rider to really ride, they’re labeled annoying or rude or bad or lazy or whatever.

Lesson horses are not intended to take you up the levels and jump big jumps and win all the classes. If these horses were this beginner-friendly and this tolerant AND the hack winner with an auto lead change, you couldn’t afford them! That’s not to say these horses can’t be winners if you ride them well and pull your weight, but their ability to win in the show ring is not where their real value lies. Lesson horses exist to bring new riders into the sport. To teach them the ropes and get them started, lay a foundation and prepare them to make a bigger commitment to the sport by leasing or purchasing the next step horse. Lesson horses are not responsible for chasing your Olympic dreams for you. They’re responsible for getting them started in the first place. For riders to act like a lesson horse isn’t valuable because he isn’t the winner in any company is ignorant and unfair.

Every horse you ride has something to teach you. Whether it’s the crotchety old school pony who likes to root when you’re not paying attention, or the younger lesson horse who will only pick up the right lead if you ask *just right*, or the ultra reliable skip-change king, they all will add to your toolkit that you can one day apply to the fancier model you get to take you to the next level. Don’t forget about all the lessons you learn along the way and remember that without lesson horses, you wouldn’t be riding at all!

**Thank you so much for all of the shares!! The fact that this took off the way it did shows that people love and appreciate their lesson horses, as they should!! If you wish to share my words with your own photo, I would really appreciate being given author credit. Thank you!**

I always say that in about 75% of my hoof rehab cases, we are able to get the horse sound just by paying special attention to their diet. Now some might think I am trying to sell some fancy supplement or make some money off of some super secret recipe, but I'm not. All I advocate for is testing the hay and balancing minerals to the hay test - often saving money in the long run by not oversupplementing things you don't need at all.

I get a lot of questions about diet for hoof rehab, so I reached out to Equi-Analytical, as they are the ones that have processed my many hay tests over the years. Ellington King sat down to chat with me about WHY we test our hay, what options we have, and how to do it.

Although this is true for good horses in general, if you’ve ever watched natural wild horses, you understand why mares are the way they are. Give birth to a foal and immediately have to defend it from prey, mares usually have big ears which allows them to hear prey coming, raised senses in general because not only do they have to fend for themselves but also a foal who is not capable of just running away. Mares are often ready to stay to fight if needed, stand their ground.
“There’s something different about the way a good mare connects with her rider. It’s special. Like an unspoken agreement. Once a mare chooses you as her person, it’s like she has an instinct to protect you, to fight for you. It’s almost as if she takes ownership of you.
I believe the good mares have a deep sense of intuition. They can read your mind. They know what you’re thinking even before you do. The good mares I know breathe fire in the face of challenge and then somehow, miraculously, know to quiet themselves when a timid child is plopped on their back for a pony ride.
They are clever, cunning and calculated, which can be your greatest enemy or your saving grace. The good mares I know do not tolerate egotistical riding. They do not tolerate force. They demand tact, finesse and emotional control. But once you have won a mare’s heart, you have won all of her. In exchange for your best—and nothing less—she will give you everything.”

Horses need horsemen. It's that simple. I get asked the same questions over and over again and nobody gets it. What level rider is this horse suitable for? I'll tell you, the best one she can get, the best horseman that's willing to buy her. The horse will only ever be as good as the rider. It doesn't matter if it's trained to jump hoops of fire, you're gonna bring it down to your level in no time. Your kid doesn't need a $15,000 horse if they haven't already had $15,000 worth of lessons. You can't buy a violin that will gift you the skill of playing. It's the same for horses. There is no magic horse, only a love for the animal, and a commitment to learning.

Most of you are so unfair and demanding of the horse you miss the forest for the trees. "I want a horse that rides out alone!!" well guess what, you better be ready to spend a year developing that relationship, that bond, that trust, she's not a bike, you can't buy trust.

"I want a horse that can sit and be the same after time off" well friend, this is a commitment to a relationship, not a classic car you take out of the garage twice a year. You can't buy what your looking for.

"I want a horse my kids can ride" you better be ready to teach your kids how to be horseman, because if the horse has to do it, you'll likely see the inside of an ambulance, or a morgue.

You can't buy trust, you cannot buy what comes with building a relationship with an animal over years of dedication.

Hi Everyone,

Thank you so very much for those that have already shared and/or donated. Nov 9th I get another PET scan to see how well treatment is working. The current plan is still through end of March for treatment. With what’s currently raised it will help me through December.

If you all can please share (again if you already had 🙏) and if you belong to any groups you feel it appropriate to share in as well would be such a huge blessing for me right now.

And many have asked to donate outside of the GoFundMe due to them taking a portion out.
I do have Zelle, PayPal, venmo and those that wish to send checks I can give my mail address via private message.

I wish you all abundance in love, blessings & optimal health💝

The dangers of paddock grass to our equine friends is not a new subject we are constantly talking about it all over the world due to it’s often catastrophic impact on our domesticated horses .

We talk about the spring and early summer burst of fresh lush grass .
We talk about the autumn flush of lush grass .
We even talk about winter frosts and sunny days with its impact on the grass .

So now it’s a year round problem for so many horses including most of mine .

How can we safely allow our horses to graze in the paddock without the worry of laminitis.

NOT EASY THAT FOR SURE. 😣and trust me I dont always get it right either.

We know that Grass that is shorter than six inches is very problematic and the shorter it is the more dangerous it becomes.

That said even if still fresh and green looking even at six inches and above can be a disaster for many .

Very Short eaten down to stubs grass is FULL of sugars as this is often called stressed grass which they love as it’s so sweet but this is extremely dangerous.

Sunlight , dew and dampness especially at spring and autumn causes this to absorb and replenish its reserves so at the end of a lovely sunny day it’s literally full of sugar and uses this over night to grow .

Early morning grazing is generally safer on this grass but certainly not full safe proof .

Adding to issues as temperatures drops over night to almost freezing or even a few degrees above this allow the grass to hold on to the sugar and not use it so early morning grazing is just as dangerous.

Mind blowing and very difficult to manage a sensitive horse , and even non sensitive types can very suddenly be affected by these spikes in grasses .

So can we help to create safer grazing by allowing the paddocks to grow to maturity before allowing any grazing , and keep moving the area so not allow short stressed grass to become a problem .
Putting in track systems are certainly the way forward and feeding ad lib hays , but again not everyone can afford to keep feeding ad lib hays or indeed it’s been difficult for many finding the right hay for horses all year round .
A combination of both track systems and correct management for the paddocks grasses and plant appropriate species may be a safer option for many .

This management should ensure lower sugars and better diversity fibre management intake plus more chewing time which is more species appropriate on their digestive system.

Any thoughts and are owners out there adapting to this practice.
