We hope everyone has a chance to experience the eclipse today! Although we can watch the eclipse with the proper eclipse glasses, our fur babies should stay indoors during the eclipse as it is not good for their eyes and the abrupt change in light can scare our pets. It is easily preventable by just a once a month tablet or an injection that last for a year. April is National Heartworm Awareness Month. In our area, Brentwood, Central Islip, and Bayshore has the highest number of positive heartworm cases in Suffolk County. Here in Brentwood alone we have 50 positive cases of heartworm. It is important to get your pet tested and keep up with the preventative all year round to keep your furry babies happy and healthy!

To help raise public awareness with the beginning of the mosquito season, April is being recognized as Heartworm Prevention Month. The American Heartworm Society reports that while most pet owners wouldn't knowingly put their pet at risk of becoming infected with a potentially deadly disease, millions fail to protect their dog or cat from heartworm infection.
