‘Twas the night before Christmas at Bridgeport Vet,
Lots of creatures are stirring, they’re not quiet yet.
A med-kit is stored in reception with care,
Just in case someone needs it, I know that it’s there.
Other medicines were stowed, patient’s records put back,
So I went to the office to snooze with ”Possum the Clinic Cat”,
Then all of a sudden there was a knock at the door,
Twice more, quite insistent, then a third and then four.
I jumped to my feet, ignoring Possum’s;
Jammed on my boots and flew to reception.
The knock came a fifth time before I got to the door,
Then I saw who was there and my jaw hit the floor.
In the path stood a fellow with a white flowing beard,
In a jolly red suit, with nine sick reindeer.
“Pardon me” said the man, “My name is Saint Nick,
My reindeer have a problem that I’m hoping you’ll fix.”
“Follow me,” I said and headed to the barn,
When I examined them they looked so forlorn.
Poor Dasher was coughing and Dancer was sneezing,
Prancer was sniffling and V***n was wheezing.
Comet was limping and Cupid was cramping and seizing;
Donner’s head was a-tilt – it was almost past believing.
When I looked at Blitzen, I had no trouble seeing;
That the poor straining reindeer had a big problem peeing.
One last look around showed one more at the door,
With a nose turned white and glowing no more.
“You’ve found the right place,” I said, “for you see,
Very few Vets are working on Christmas Eve.”
With X-rays and medicine dispensed here and there,
I handed out tablets to nine sickly reindeer.
Soon all felt better and were rearing to fly,
To finish their important delivery, this night in the sky.
As Rudolf’s nose reached a bright red glow,
I said,” Ok Santa, I think they are good to go”.
He reached into his pocket and pulled out a long list,
“Were you bad or good?” then he glanced at his wrist.
“My goodness I’m late!” said the now jolly man,
“There are toys to deliver!” and he stuck out his hand.
Before I could an answer, as quick as a blink,
Saint Nick disappeared with a smile and wink.
I ran to the door and peered into the night,
To see nine reindeer pull a sleigh into flight,
As I turned to come in, a voice called from out of sight
“Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!”
