SAD NEWS - We are very sorry to announce that our Medical Director Doctor Crawford will be leaving Bridgeport Veterinary Hospital. Her long commute in combination with taking care of a young baby made her decide to look for a job closer to home. We completely understand her decision, but we are extremely sad to see her go. Not only is Doctor Crawford an amazing veterinarian, she also put a training program in place for our staff and taught us all so much. Besides that, she is a wonderful person to work with, and we will miss her great sense of humor.

"I had a great time at Bridgeport Veterinary Hospital, I love the patients and appreciate the clients and the staff so much. I will really miss you all!" says Doctor Crawford.

Doctor Crawford's last day with us will be Sunday March 2nd. Please join us in thanking Doctor Crawford for everything she has done for all of us!

A PIECE OF HISTORY 🤓 - In the early 1900s Bridgeport was in need of a bank. In 1906 a number of residents put up $50 each to start Bridgeport National Bank. The bank started out in a small red brick building. In 1928 the bank expanded and built our current building. We’re grateful for this amazing building that now houses a state of the art veterinary hospital!

FUTURE VETERINARIAN - Twelve year old Kaylyn wants to be a vet and she came in today to shadow Doctor McLahan. She learned about ear infections, wellness visits and was happy to pet one of our boarding favorites, Mac. And fortunately after shadowing Doctor McLahan she still wants to be a vet!

BIRD FLU IN CATS - Several cats (including indoor cats) all over the country have contracted the avian influenza recently. Cats appear to be very susceptible to severe illness, often resulting in death. The good news is that infection can be prevented with a few simple measures.

It is important to:
NOT feed your cat unpasteurized milk, colostrum or raw or undercooked meat
Keep cats away from livestock and poultry
Avoid contact with sick or dead birds and other wildlife yourself
Thoroughly wash your hands after handling your cat and after any encounters with poultry, livestock, wild birds and other animals
Change your clothes and shoes, and thoroughly wash any exposed skin after interacting with sick or dead animals that may harbor the avian flu virus, and before interacting with your cat
Immediately contact us if you see any signs of bird flu or if you think your cat may have been exposed

Signs to look for include:
Neurologic signs (clumsy movements, circling, tremors, seizures, blindness)
Severe depression
Discharge from eyes and nose
Respiratory signs (rapid breathing, shortness of breath, coughing or sneezing)

Please contact us (610-277-8387 or [email protected]) if you have any questions

(Cat in picture is not infected, photo just for illustration purpose)
