⛄️I hope everyone was able to enjoy this snowday, we know some of our patients definitely did(pictured below). Some cozy by the fireplaces and some with the zoomies in the yard.

⛄️We plan on opening tomorrow, January 7th, with a shortened schedule. We will open at 10am and plan to close at 4pm. This will allow our staff and clients to travel during daylight hours. Our team will be smaller than usual tomorrow so please bear with us. We will prioritize our urgent patients and medicine refills tomorrow.

☃️With the snow falling steadily and no end in sight today, we have made the difficult decision to close today, January 6th, for the safety of our staff.

☃️Delmarva Animal Emergency Center in Dover will remain open through Tuesday, January 7th at 8am. Please be patient, as they will likely be busy with most of the local animal hospitals being closed.

☃️As of right now, we are hopeful to be open at our normal time tomorrow, January 7th. I will post an update if anything changes.

🚨‼️UPDATE 1/5 at 6pm‼️🚨

❄️Winter Storm Blair is expected overnight tonight. Depending on its outcome, in the morning, our hospital will either be running with a very limited team or closed. Please make sure you call our office and speak to someone before coming in.

❄️In the event that we are operating with limited staff, please be kind and patient as we will try to prioritize our urgent patients first and will reschedule our wellness visits for a safer day.

🚨‼️ We will be opening at 10am tomorrow morning to allow the sun to rise and our crew to have extra time to get to the hospital‼️🚨

❄️In the event that we are closed, we will be reaching out and rescheduling all of the appointments as soon as possible.

❄️Our local Emergency Animal hospitals (Pets ER and Delmarva Animal Emergency Center) are open until 8am Monday morning and will be reopening at 6pm Monday night.
Bluepearl Pet Hospital in Christiana is our closest 24hour emergency center
🚨‼️ Delmarva Animal Emergency Center has pulled together an amazing crew of people willing to remain open through the storm tomorrow. So as of right now DAEC will remain open from now until 8am Tuesday morning. Please call them in advance! ‼️🚨

❄️Please bring all outside pets inside, at least a shed or garage to prevent them from getting covered in wet snow and out of the wind.
Make sure you have extra water saved for your pets to drink in a power outage.

❄️I will update our Facebook as we start to figure out what we will be doing tomorrow. It pains us to possibly not be there for our patients but we have to make sure the driving conditions are safe for our staff.

Last night we had a great time celebrating Christmas as a work family! And like any other family, we’re a little dysfunctional at picture time 🫠

We are over the moon with all of the support from our staff and clients for our first year participating in the Cars & Coffee of Wilmington De Annual Toy Drive for the children in Nemours Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children. The donations were picked up today and will be delivered to the hospital by some pretty cool cars for the kids to see. You can follow the Cars and Coffee page to see the delivery process!

In recognition of Veterinary Technician Week, we extend our appreciation to Tara, Emily, and Sam, graduates of DelTech's veterinary technician program and accomplished Licensed Veterinary Technicians following their success in national board examinations. These three skilled professionals are instrumental in monitoring patients under anesthesia, performing dental cleanings, and assisting in surgeries, among other vital responsibilities, at WSAH.

And last but not least, the crew in the back! These are the faces that you see for your tech visits or exam room visits all the way to the ones that reassure you while you’re dropping your pet off with us for the day. We are so fortunate to have 4 veterinary assistants and 3 Licensed Vet Techs to help care for your patients! This crew definitely loves their jobs and you can see it when they’re with your furry loved ones! Larry, Jen, Tara, Holly, Emily, Lauren, Haley and Sam you all rock!

We proudly celebrate our Anniversary this week, honoring the day WSAH opened, October 1st, 2012. Our community, clients, and patients have been vital to our achievements, and we are equally thankful for our committed staff. This week, we will be highlighting the staff members and sharing some of our patients.

First up! Doctor Craig Metzner. His passion for delivering outstanding animal care and supporting families prompted him to start Western Sussex Animal Hospital 12 years ago, and we are privileged to have him leading our team.
