We often hear about stray animals walking up to rescuers on the street as if they can sense that person will help them.

Stout was one of those strays

Early January of 2024, a bedraggled orange cat with tomcat cheeks started coming around the home of Staff Member Brittany. He cried and cried at her window, asking for help and to get out of the cold snow. It took some time to catch him and bring him to the safety of our shelter, but Brittany’s determination made it happen.

In the year that Stout has been with us, he has gotten the care he needed to become a handsome, healthy fellow who is waiting to grace the sofa of a loving forever home.

Stout enjoys the company and attention of humans. He is grateful to be indoors and for good meals. At feeding time, when so many of our other cats are singing for their supper, Stout sits politely and quietly at attention, waiting for his plate to arrive. He enjoys his time out of his cage by lounging on the cat trees and collecting chin scratches from visitors.

We don’t know what his life was like before he came to us, but Stout has a strong intolerance of other animals. He must be the only pet in the home.

Stout is almost 4 years old, neutered, UTD on vaccines, and FIV+. Like other cats, with good nutrition, routine vet checks, and stress protection, he can live a long, healthy life. He was a good boy during handling when receiving his vaccines and blood draw.

Stout has much to offer as a companion. He just needs someone to give him a chance. 🐈 💕

Bradley the lab mix puppy is still waiting for a home!

Volunteer Linda took him home for a sleepover and here’s what she reports:

“Lucky me, I got to spend the night with this adorable black lab pup! He’s energetic, affectionate, curious and all around delightful.

Bradley has the softest silkiest fur. He likes to watch TV but mostly likes to cuddle and play.

He is very, very food motivated which always helps with training. I am working on teaching him to “sit”. We use a “slow feeder bowl” so he doesn’t chow down too quickly.

Lucky for us he did his business outside (he does still need to be house trained).

He walks nicely on leash and did well in the car.

What a little treasure he is! Lucky is the family who adopts him. 💚”

It’s toe beans alllll day!!

If you’re looking for a kitty pal and are a fan of toe beans, you’ve got to meet the aptly named Mittens!

This handsome, affectionate, feline-friendly fella has more beans than the ShopRite can can sale! Look closely at the photos and see if you can count them all! Better yet, stop by and count them in person!

Mittens is waiting to meet you in our open cat room. We’re open daily 12-3:30pm.

Reclaimed by owner. ❤️
Do you recognize this dog? This senior male boxer was found on Route 22 in Bridgewater by Jat Software yesterday and brought to the shelter. The dog lacked identification via microchip or collar and is intact. If you know this dog or are its owner, please call the shelter at (908)725-0308.

Meet Lola and Pepe. These two have a remarkable story. Lola, a 5-6 year old Blasco and white terrier mix, and Pepe, a 3-year-old black and tan mixed breed, arrived from Puerto Rico after being displaced when their owner was hospitalized and unlikely to return home. We can only imagine the challenges they have faced, but hopefully they now feel safe. Though their backgrounds are not well-documented, we understand that Lola is crate-trained, potty-trained, and well-behaved indoors, while Pepe is as sweet as he is adorable. Oh and might I mention they are both bilingual!
It has been reported that Pepe and Lola are a bit bonded and Pepe occasionally cries for Lola, so we try to provide them with joint yard time whenever possible. If you are interested in adopting these pups, please contact the shelter or come in to visit during our business hours of 12 PM to 3:30 PM seven days a week.
