In addition to the hot summer time asphalt; NAILS are a very overlooked part of owning a pet! Having long nails can forced beloved pets to change the way he/she stands (his posture) and the way he moves (his gait). This causes long-term damage to joints, ligaments, and tendons! It can also lead to injuries, chronic inflammation, and arthritis. And it's painful, too!

HOW CAN I TELL IF MY DOG'S NAILS ARE TOO LONG?
Place your dog on a level, hard surface, such as tile, wood, asphalt, or a table top. If his nails touch the surface when he is standing still, they are too long and need to be trimmed.

WHY ARE LONG NAILS BAD FOR MY DOG?

Having to adjust the way he stands and moves also affects how your dog perceives his environment.
His pads have sensory receptors that help his brain understand where he is in relation to the ground.
When he has to change his gait, his brain can't interpret the signals appropriately.
Lastly, having long toenails makes it difficult for him to walk on hard, slick surfaces, such as linoleum or hardwood flooring. This can easily lead to injury if he's playing or running on such a surface, but it can also make him uncomfortable or scared of walking on various floors.

Just to give you guys a heads up starting May 15th we will only be offering mobile grooming and no more drop off services!
