Welcome Bailey!

This 3 year old goldendoodle is so sweet but you wouldn’t know it if you met her on the street! She is a very reactive girl who barks and throws a fit when out on the walk. She brings the drama! Her parents want to be able to walk her with confidence that they can handle situations as they pop up both at home and away!

This loving girl is also learning how to potty outside in the grass instead of on potty pads, reducing her jumping on people and working on her general anxiety that keeps her brain constantly on the move. Calm the body and calm the mind!

Keep up the hard work Bailey!

Meet Goose the French Bull Dog!

Goose is just over a year old and can be quite a handful. He is very much loved by his family but needs some structure in order to be the companion they actually want around!

He can be fearful of new people in the house which leads to barking excessively and running around for a long time. When he does recognize the person - he is barking and jumping all over them! This is not exactly the canine friend you want to have at your party on Friday! He also struggles to walk on the leash politely. He will pull all over the place - towards other dogs, putting on the breaks, or trying to home when he is nervous. And he is strong for his size! Goose will also nip at his family members’ feet when they are walking through their house.

He is here to learn a new mindset where he can follow the lead of his parents instead of making drastic decisions on his own that get him into trouble and cause more chaos in his family’s life. He is learning how to look to a human for direction and how to actually listen and follow through when they give him direction. Training is not only obedience - its mindset!

Can’t wait to see where this training takes him and his family!

Doc is here to do some training!

Doc the 2-year-old chocolate lab has done some lessons with me in the past so his face might be familiar. Now, he is here to stay with us at TWL for a bit to accomplish even more than his standard obedience commands.

Doc is super smart and knows so much but is here to work on his mindset - especially around other dogs and around his impulsiveness. He can be over the top when he sees other dogs - barking, lunging, and causing a scene. We want to give him the skill sets to work through these big emotions as well as experience in seeing that what he deems as a threat is usually not one! He is also ball crazy and is here to learn some skills about keeping his brain in his skull, even when he is super excited and adrenaline-driven.

Docs handlers are also ready to step up to the plate to give new leadership to him. Dog training is so much about the relationship and communication between us and our dogs - and Doc is going to need as much clarity when he heads home as he has here.

Say hi to Doc with a heart emoji!

Hi Zoey! Welcome to TWL!

Zoey is a 2-year-old Mini Bernedoodle. She is a sweetheart and loves people but could use some newfound manners and a new way for us to communicate with her so that she can thrive with her family.

Zoey piddles when she is frantic or submissive and could use a big confidence boost during training so that she can lower this behavior and save us from dragging the carpet cleaner out again. She also is a notorious jumper and whiner - she always wants to be the center of attention. Teaching her some rules, boundaries and a clear expectation of what to expect is going to help her find her zen instead of constantly seeking attention. Showing her how to properly interact with other dogs more neutrally will help them get Zoey to leave their other dog alone sometimes too!

Welcome Zoey - she is going to do great!

Lets welcome Nero to our training pack!

Nero is a one-year-old French Bulldog. He may be small but he is packed to the brim with naughty energy. Before coming to training, he was wild in the crate even bending some of the bars, and was crazy jumping around to get out. He pulled on the leash and was so scatterbrained his family didn’t even want to walk him. He was so spastic and stubborn, his family felt like their life was out of control.

Nero is learning here to learn how to calm on command (woosah little buddy), to come when he is called, and for an overall mindset shift where he is ready to listen to his owners instead of following every doggy impulse that passes his brain.

I can’t wait to see where training takes this little guy!

Two paws for Nero!

You, the human, make up half of this dog training team! You need to care for yourself too!

One of the top questions I get asked - Does my dog have to use a raised place bed?

The answer? No but it’ll be a lot easier for both of you if you do. These beds are very clear for the dog to understand the new rule and just because it doesn’t look as comfy to us humans - the dogs end up loving them!

It doesn’t get so hot in the summer and as the wear in with use, the beds act like little hammocks!

So use the bed. Make it clear for your dog. Build on the thing you want your dog to channel most - CALM.

I’m Layne, your friendly neighborhood dog trainer. Growing up, I thought I would do many different things for work. I shuffled between teacher, nurse, coach, doctor. And although I knew I wanted to spend my life helping people, being a dog trainer never crossed my mind.
I always had dogs around me in life. My dad had hunting retrievers that were the love of my life. While I learned how to train people during college for my degree, I walked dogs at the local shelter and did some light training with them. But nothing prepared me for Moose. Moose is a fox red field labrador retriever and was an absolute tornado when we first got him.
He turned my life upside down. Is this what my life is now that we have a dog? Do we find him another home? Do I give up the idea of him having a life outside of our living room? How do I get this dog trained?
Getting a tough-to-deal-with dog like Moose was the best thing I ever did. I threw myself into dog training in ways I never had before. I went to hundreds of classes, seminars, read books, traveled the country, and called trainers around the world... I became a better trainer AND person not only for Moose but for myself.
And now it’s my job.
Now I want to help owners who feel a bit out of whack with their dog just like I did. Of course I train dogs but I am here for YOU. The dog owner.
