Welcome, George 🐾

This sweet young guy is spending the week in my 5-Day Puppy Headstart program and we’re focusing on exactly what matters most in the early stages: calm, confidence, and clarity.

George came in full of curiosity (and teeth 😅), like most Labradors at this age. He’s in that “explore with your mouth, test every boundary” phase, which is totally normal but also the perfect time to shape better habits.

We’re not drilling commands yet. Right now, it’s all about:
✅ Learning how to settle
✅ Building a consistent routine
✅ Practicing calm socialization
✅ Reducing puppy biting and over-arousal
✅ Creating structure around life in a family home

With the right guidance, George is already learning that life doesn’t have to be one big impulse. And that calm is a skill: one we’re building day by day.

Can’t wait to show you what this little guy can do. 🖤🐶

Meet Ranger 👋🏼
This big red labrador is wrapping up his time in the Ultimate Family Pet program, and let me tell you, his people are going to love the same personality with more mindfulness.

When 6-month-old Ranger came to me, he had all the classic “big puppy energy” issues:
➡️ Counter surfing
➡️ Jumping
➡️ Barking
➡️ Mouthing like it was his job

He’s sweet to the core, but he’s also going to be huge and without clear structure, that mix of power and pushiness can turn stressful real fast.

So we’ve been dialing in calm mindset, manners, and leash work, and teaching him what it means to follow instead of just bounce through life on impulse.

His family now has tools, clarity, and a whole new level of leadership to guide this lovable goof into adulthood. 👏🏼

Meet Zoe 🐾

This 7-month-old Bernedoodle just joined us for the Ultimate Family Pet program and while she’s as sweet and snuggly as she looks, she’s also bringing the big puppy energy.

Zoe’s the kind of girl who jumps to say hi and barks when the excitement gets to be a little too much or when she wants something! No malice, no attitude just a young dog who hasn’t yet learned there’s another way to move through the world.

That’s where we come in. Over the next few weeks, we’ll be teaching her how to slow down, think first, and show up with calm confidence so she can grow into the respectful, go-anywhere dog her family will love living with.

Let’s do this, Zoe 🐶✨

When Gus first came to me, he was a sweet, lovable golden with some… let’s call them big opinions about how life should go. Jumping, mouthing, dragging his people on walks, stealing the kids’ toys, refusing to get off the couch — if it was fun for Gus, he was doing it.

Fast forward to today, and this boy has learned how good life can be when there’s structure, boundaries, and clear communication. He can walk nicely without trying to win a sled dog race, leave the kids’ toys where they belong, hop off the couch when asked, and actually listen the first time.

Gus’s family now has the skills to keep his new mindset thriving at home, and I have no doubt they’re going to crush it. Proud of you, buddy — go show off that gold star behavior! 🐾✨

Meet Finnegan! 🐾

This handsome Golden Retriever is just over a year old and here for our Ultimate Family Pet Stay & Train. His family has done a great job laying the foundation with puppy basics - now it’s time to build on that and smooth out the rough edges.

With two toddlers at home, the big goal is helping Finn become calmer, more thoughtful, and less of a playful wrecking ball around the kids. (We’re aiming for gentle big brother energy, not linebacker. 😅)

He’s sweet, social, and eager to learn! Now we’re dialing up the structure, manners, and impulse control to help him shine.

If your dog could use a reset or a little polish, you can learn more about my programs over at trainwithlayne.com! you’ll find all the info and next steps there.

“Can I pet your dog?”
No. 😌

You are allowed to say no.
Even if they pout. Even if they say, “But I’m good with dogs.” Even if it makes you feel a little rude.

Your training matters. Your dog’s focus matters.
And your peace? That matters most of all.

This post breaks down how to say “no” without sounding like a jerk so you can protect your dog’s progress and your sanity. 👏

✨ Save it for when the next stranger reaches for your dog like he’s a Build-a-Bear at the mall.

👉 Which line are you using next time someone asks to pet your dog?

Hi, I’m Layne!

I’m a dog trainer, coach for overwhelmed owners, and mom to one adorable toddler and one formerly wild dog who started this whole thing.

I started training dogs years ago thanks to my own disaster dog, Moose. He turned my life upside down and forced me to figure out what actually works, not just on Instagram, but in real homes with real families and real mess.

Now, I work with pet dogs and the people who love them. Especially other tired, busy moms who just want their dog to stop making life harder, without needing hours of extra time (who has that?) or a pocket full of stinky bacon treats 24/7 (don’t we carry enough of snacks for the kids?).

If you’re overwhelmed, stuck, or thinking “what have I done?” you are not alone. And you’re not failing.
This is exactly what we do at Train With Layne - turn the “what have I done?” to “we’ve got this!”
If you’re ready to feel like a team with your dog again, shoot me a message. I’d love to help.

Welcome, Archie 🐕‍🦺✨
This sweet (and spicy) 7-month-old shepherd mix is here to follow in his big brother’s pawprints. His family trained their other dog Ozzy with us previously and now it’s Archie’s turn to learn some manners.

They thought they were getting a mellow Lab mix… but what they got was a high-octane herding dog super mutt with a voice that will wake the neighborhood by 5 AM sharp. 😅

Archie barks like it’s his job, pulls like a sled dog, and jumps on everyone like they’re long-lost friends. He also bullies his poor dog brother and steals all his bones with all the grace of a goofy little brother in a growth spurt.

But under all that chaos is the sweetest pup, affectionately nicknamed Noodle and we’re here to help him settle into his best self.

Got a “Noodle” of your own? One that’s sweet but driving you nuts? Drop a 🐾 or message me—this is what we do.

One spot left in late August! If you want your dog trained for you this fall, DM me now.

Meet Sophie, the firecracker of a Bernedoodle who’s here to trade chaos for calm on command.

At just one year old, she’s got big energy and even bigger opinions. She jumps like she’s on a pogo stick, eats sticks like snacks, pulls towards everyone on the leash, and has turned remote control theft into an Olympic sport. Her parents are saints—and also very ready for help.

Sophie might look patriotic and poised in her little headband, but don’t be fooled. This girl brings the fireworks daily. 💥

We’re working on impulse control, boundaries, and helping her understand that “no” doesn’t mean “try harder.”

If your dog’s got main character energy and a taste for mischief— you’re not alone. Drop a 🎆 or message me to talk training!

Bye Alfie!

Alfie is such a cutie but he definitely has some stinker in him too! He is loving, silly, funny, and in true dachshund form… dramatic.

He pulled out all the stops while he was here! But he is living with a more handler focused mindset through training. His parents are leaving with the tools they need to succeed

Miss you already Alfie!
