Mustang 24/25
Another good ride on my mustang mare with no name still 😂 I decided to start jumping early on in training to help with bravery and muscle development. She’s really smart and sensitive. I’ve never had a horse quite like her I usually need to ride with spurs by now but she wants to move off my legs almost too much. I never pictured her as being a forward horse when I first got her. Side passing takes very little effort and she almost offers a leg yield when trotting. It was a cold ride but she behaves well for only one month of training. Filmed this with my PIXEM app and Pixio Robot. Need to work the zoom out but not bad for the first time I’ve used it in a while. Horse Show
Took Fiona to her first horse show and Dandy to his second one. They both made me proud. Came home with quite a few 6th place ribbons 😂 and one blue! There was more than 6 in most classes so we weren’t last.
Fiona and Dandy
Both mustangs are coming along great! These horses were wild back in September (chestnut) and October (grey)!
Fiona update! She’s been kind of tough for me. She really hasn’t done anything terrible but she bolted across the arena with me once at a dead run. She grabs her butt a lot!!!! Hasn’t bucked, knock on wood, but she scares me probably because she’s BIG! I’ve been riding her in the round pen (after the bolt) up until today again. Hoping with the nice weather and some riding buddies I can really get her going and over this hump.
Through The Lens
Through the lens:
Load your horse in your trailer and go to the grocery store! A mentor of mine once told me to take my wild mustangs with me everywhere. I can’t say I’m very good at actually taking them everywhere but now with a 10 month old child I have to figure out ways to work with my horses with him around. I knew he needed a nap and the horse has never left the property so I loaded both up! We tried to go to the grocery store but he was asleep a minute into our drive.
How many of you struggle with loading your horse? Unloading it? Horse not loading back up once unloaded?
Practice! Practice! Practice! I have a friend that was in a mustang competition with me once and she loaded her mustang every morning and took it to work with her before the competition. The horse had food and water in the trailer all day and then she took it home once done with her shift. You bet that horse loaded right up into the trailer provided at the show.
So take your horses with you next time you need to go grocery shopping or to the gas station. Just take them somewhere other than a planned destination. It’s also great for practicing driving the truck and trailer, find some back roads and drive around. Your horse won’t know the difference if you know what you are doing or don’t. I hope this helps someone struggling with trailering!
