Horse Show
Took Fiona to her first horse show and Dandy to his second one. They both made me proud. Came home with quite a few 6th place ribbons š and one blue! There was more than 6 in most classes so we werenāt last.
Fiona and Dandy
Both mustangs are coming along great! These horses were wild back in September (chestnut) and October (grey)!
Fiona update! Sheās been kind of tough for me. She really hasnāt done anything terrible but she bolted across the arena with me once at a dead run. She grabs her butt a lot!!!! Hasnāt bucked, knock on wood, but she scares me probably because sheās BIG! Iāve been riding her in the round pen (after the bolt) up until today again. Hoping with the nice weather and some riding buddies I can really get her going and over this hump.
Through The Lens
Through the lens:
Load your horse in your trailer and go to the grocery store! A mentor of mine once told me to take my wild mustangs with me everywhere. I canāt say Iām very good at actually taking them everywhere but now with a 10 month old child I have to figure out ways to work with my horses with him around. I knew he needed a nap and the horse has never left the property so I loaded both up! We tried to go to the grocery store but he was asleep a minute into our drive.
How many of you struggle with loading your horse? Unloading it? Horse not loading back up once unloaded?
Practice! Practice! Practice! I have a friend that was in a mustang competition with me once and she loaded her mustang every morning and took it to work with her before the competition. The horse had food and water in the trailer all day and then she took it home once done with her shift. You bet that horse loaded right up into the trailer provided at the show.
So take your horses with you next time you need to go grocery shopping or to the gas station. Just take them somewhere other than a planned destination. Itās also great for practicing driving the truck and trailer, find some back roads and drive around. Your horse wonāt know the difference if you know what you are doing or donāt. I hope this helps someone struggling with trailering!
Princess Fiona First Ride
First ride on the four year old mustang mare from Buffalo Hills, NV. Her lope is so smooth she just floats across the ground. When I first saw her in the corrals I was worried about how big she was how she would move but I listened to the pen wranglers at the corral. They said she moved beautifully and they were so right! This girl tries her heart out and I canāt wait to see how she progresses.

Dandy overcoming people fear!
Handy Dandy is starting to get broke! This little mustang was probably the most scared of people I have had personally. He did a complete 180 and loves domestic life now! Check out how cute he is! I love his lope. This was the second time we rode with humans in the arena, Julie and Rowdy were our desensitizers. First time I rode with someone in the arena we proceeded to bolt around the arena. This is a huge improvement!
Two year old with 10 or so rides š¤©
Preparing for some Extreme Cowboy Racing next week! Set up a course in our arena and ran Feather through it tonight. I forgot my own course š but for never seeing some of the obstacles before I was super proud of her!
Took Jimmy and a few others to Colorado Obstacle Challenge today. Jimmy is our little rescue horse from Harmony! He was a rockstar and won the class against the other horses. Not to mention how cute is he?! Pretty boy.
Feather being Fancy
Just wanted to show how cool this horse is! She is one of the most naturally fancy/talented horses I have ever rode. She is smooth as glass to ride, you can sit her trot for miles.
Elsa in the arena
Got to ride the gorgeous Elsa around the arena today for the first time. Sheās really doing well. This is her 4th ride ever, mine and her second ride together.
Havenāt made a post in a bit, but here is Feathered Indian with a new rider for the first time. Feather was my pick for the Oklahoma Extreme Mustang Makeover. Feather is such a nice little mustang that I have decided to pull her from the competition and keep her as an ambassador mustang for myself. Feather would likely do really well at the competition but I will have to bid for her against the public if I want to get her back. She will be a great addition to our herd and I canāt wait to see what the future holds for us!
