Today was a rough one. Many of you remember Bianca aka my salon cat from East Street. After we relocated the business to Pine Street in 2019 I decided to take her home because the new salon didn't seem as safe for her to live in as the prior one. Everything was going great with her in my home up until this weekend. She had just gone to the vet at the end of June and was given a clean bill of health and her updated rabies vaccine. This weekend she was off. Moping, not eating, not using the bathroom. Her regular vet couldn't fit her in so we took her to a emergency vet. We did bloodwork and were told she was in stage 4 kidney failure and it was to far gone. We had to let her go. We are sad, confused and devastated. I wanted to share with you because alot of you always asked me how she was doing or would say how much you missed her. She was as much a part of your life as mine. Bianca will be missed greatly and forever in our hearts πŸ’•. RIP B.

MERRY CHRISTMAS πŸŽ… πŸŽ„

The Night Before Christmas - Grooming
Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the shop
Not a groomer was stirring, they'd all come to a stop
The stockings were hung by the dryer with care,
Unfortunately each one was stuffed full of hair!
The bathers were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of chapped hands danced in their heads.
The groomer's new clippers lay nestled in her lap
She had just passed out, t'was a long needed nap!
When in the reception there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from my seat to see what was the matter.
Away to the reception desk I flew like a flash,
Forgot about my new clippers they fell with a crash.
The moon high in the sky shone in thru the door
Illuminating paw prints I'd missed on the floor.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But a miniature sleigh, and eight filthy reindeer.
With a little old driver, I almost felt sick
I knew in a moment it must be St Nick.
He never pre-booked but each year he came
I kept calling to remind him but it was always the same.
"Now Dasher! now, Dancer! now, Prancer and V***n!
On, Comet! On, Cupid! On Donner and Blitzen!
To the top of the porch! Inside to the Hall!
It's time for some grooming!! Baths for you all!!
Twigs and leaves stuck to them, mud up to the eye,
When I laid my eyes on them I thought I would die.
So into the bathing room everyone of them flew,
With the sleigh full of Toys, Blitzen stopped for a poo!!
And then, very softly, I heard a throat clear
Santa looked bashful he wouldn't come near.
For he knew that we'd worked for fourteen days straight
Right at this moment he pondered his fate!
'Dear groomer' he said, staring down at his feet
'I need you to help me, even though you feel beat'
'My reindeer are filthy, they stink like a skunk'
'How'd you like riding behind them getting covered in gunk?'
I stood there, mouth open, tried to hold back the tears
Why could he not book ahead after all of these years?
But I saw straight away I would have to be quick
I couldn't be responsible for letting down old St Nick!
I woke all the bathers they complained with good reason
As I told them about our last job of the season.
I saw teeth grit, thought I was in for a fight,
But they rolled up their sleeves I was so proud that night!
Water was turned on, bathing systems priming
Reinders into the bath with military timing.
First shampoo, conditioner, rinse then HV'ed
Some carding to finish, in the cage hope none pee'd!
When we all finished up the reindeer each looked devine
I went to my drawer for the very last time.
Bandanas were cut and tied on one-by-one
A little Spritz of cologne and, voila, they were done!
Tears welled in his eyes as Santa looked at his team
Groomers saved Christmas, and so it would seem,
And as they flew off, a faint voice I did hear...
'Hey groomer, can I pre-book for the same time next year?'

The position requires knowledge of grooming all breeds of dogs, the breed specific haircuts, how to groom from start to finish, and of using and sanitizing all equipment. You must be able to schedule appointments and respond to clients via phone and in person. Organization, cleanliness and punctuality is a must. I provide the grooming table, shampoo, conditioner and dryers. You are responsible for your own blades, scissors, clippers, colognes, and brushes. I am looking for someone with a positive attitude and who enjoys coming to work. Commision based plus tips. Part of the interview process will be a completed haircut on a dog that you provide; must be a breed that requires use of clippers and shears.

Dear Friends,

We want to take a moment to share with you some important information. Since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, the veterinary industry has had to make some dramatic changes. Some of you have been so supportive, and we cannot thank you enough for your kind words and encouragement…and some delicious treats! However, some of you have been argumentative, demanding, and combative and it needs to stop. We will not tolerate any yelling, argumentative behavior or swearing at our staff members.

Todaysveterinarybusiness.com reported that 11.38 million U.S. households have gotten a new pet during the pandemic. We know how stressful it is to have a pet that’s not feeling well, and we are doing everything in our power to help you take care of your beloved four-legged family member. We have maintained our normal hours of operation throughout the pandemic and have even added staff members to help handle the increase in caseloads because other hospitals were forced to close or shorten their hours. On average, over the past year, we’ve been seeing an additional 300 appointments per month! We’re tired and we’re burnt out, just like you are. If we’re telling you that we cannot squeeze you in, know that it’s hard for us to tell you this but it truly is because we cannot. Our doctors are double and triple booked, missing their breaks, and rarely leaving on time at the end of the day. Unfortunately, we cannot create time.

We are so glad to be able to have some clients back in the building so that they can be present for their pet’s wellness visit. Please know that we wish all of you could accompany your pet inside, however, there aren’t enough exam rooms to accommodate all of the appointments we are squeezing in throughout the day. We know that it’s hot out, or raining, and sometimes even boring when you have to wait…but please be prepared. Bring a book, magazine, or game…bring some water and maybe even a snack. If we’re telling you that we are squeezing you in, please be patient with us. Know that we are not sitting around inside making you wait on purpose. We are triaging each appointment based on how critical the patient is.

Our friends at the emergency hospitals have also seen a tremendous increase in patient visits and are also overwhelmed. Recently, clinics have been forced to close their doors to new cases for 1-2 days because they do not have the ability to accommodate more cases. If they are open, you can expect a wait time of 6 to 8 hours at most emergency facilities these days. This isn’t a local issue; this is a national crisis. The stress of this profession is causing many employees to seek employment in a different field. Because of this, most hospitals are understaffed and overwhelmed. Compassion fatigue, anxiety, and depression are running rampant. Please know that the things that worry you also worry us and that we are all just trying to do the very best we can and giving it our all. If we haven’t met your expectations, we want to know, but do not raise your voice to our staff. They’re the ones showing up every day to make sure your pet gets the best medical care possible.

Sincerely,

The Management of Powder Ridge Veterinary Hospital

Happy Memorial Day to all the true heroes who have lost their lives for our freedom.

Good morning, I just wanted to touch base about the covid and salon policies going forward. I am vaccinated, Emma is getting her 2nd dose this weekend. For now we will still being doing curbside. Starting June 7 we will allow people inside of the salon and no longer be doing curbside. If you are not vaccinated you must wear a mask when you come in. We are still requiring appointments for everything because we are booking a week and a half in advance. Please if you are able to, I would strongly suggest booking your next appointment in advance. We are trying to find another groomer to help but unfortunately covid closed schools and groomers are sparse right now. Please be patient with us. If you are more than 10 minutes late to your appointment we will have to reschedule. We groom every animal start to finish and cannot have tardiness because it messes up our whole day and makes us late for everyone else. We cannot waste appointments. If you make a appointment and cannot keep it you must cancel within 24 hours. If you do not show up to your appointment, you will be getting charged for the missed appointment and your next appointment prior to booking. Space is extremely limited and we cannot have our time wasted especially when we have other clients on a waiting list. It is rude and a waste of time. Please check your rabies paperwork prior to coming to make sure you have the correct paperwork and its valid. We do not have time to go through paperwork and to call vets to confirm. Thank you, I hope everyone is doing well and have a great weekend!!!

Today was a very sad day. I wanted to inform you all that Emma lost her best friend this evening. Finley had been fighting kidney disease for a few years now and he had a medical crisis last week that he did not recover from. I wanted to share her post with you because you are our family and many of you knew and adored Finley. RIP sweet Finley, we won't be the same at the salon without you πŸ’”.

10/11/13-4/12/21 🌈 . If love could have saved you, you would have lived forever. Kidney disease was brutal and you kicked it’s ass for so many years. While your body grew weaker, your spirit remained strong. Through all the medical interventions I believed there was nothing we couldn’t fix. Unfortunately this time too much damage had been done to your poor body. I watched you deteriorate so fast. Words can’t describe how much you mean to me and to those who loved you. Rest easy my boy you are no longer in pain. I love you so very much

04/09/2021

Emma and myself are back tomorrow Saturday April 10 at 8am!!! Thank you for being patient with us during this time.If we had to reschedule you thank you for allowing us to do so and for being flexible. We are extremely busy the next couple of weeks but we are going to do our best to get everyone in as soon as we can. I am so happy to get back to work and I can't wait to see everyone!

03/31/2021

Hey everyone, unfortunately due to the fact that both Emma and myself were exposed to covid 19 we will have to close the salon and quarantine until April 9, 2021. If you have a appointment that falls in this time line we will be calling you to reschedule. If you have a appointment from April 10 onward, your appointment still stands. We apologize for any inconvenience but this is best to keep everyone safe and healthy during these times. I hope that you will be understanding and patient as we want to get back in the salon as soon as we can and this was a tough decision. Thank you.
