Elsa Gately had her first trail ride with PJ today, and thank goodness it was uneventful! PJ can be anxious and hasn't been out in a trail in a very long time.

I planned on also competing in a 25 mile ride today, but cindy was sore from her 30 miles yesterday. I must admit I am out of shape myself and wasn't too terribly upset to head home early!

Everyone at the rabbit run/ bunny hop was so nice and welcoming. I was camped between another family from CT and a friend Jen Stevenson whom I met last year. It was comforting to see familiar faces and made a few more friends. I rode most of my time with Lindsay Toms - boy does her horse cover ground at the canter!! A girl named Hannah let me borrow some water buckets as I realized I didn't bring enough, and we had a nice chat at dinner. The ride manager and her crew / volunteers / vets were great as well. Trails were well marked and a great first ride for the season.

I got brave and took the girls for their first beach ride. They all had a blast and no one fell off into the ocean, so it was a good day! Great way to end 2023!

We completed the 100 miles!! Day 1 - 40 miles Cindy was spunky, cantering up the mountains and was so fast we had to walk the last 15 miles so we didn't end too early. Day 2- another 40 miles and Cindy was a good trail pony. Enough energy but wasnt as forward as the day before. Day 3- 20 miles and Cindy felt good but with a down tree across the trail, it was estimated that we looped around an extra mile and with playing catch up for time, cantering on some hard packed roads, I attribute that to causing her some soreness in her hind end. We were not eliminated but got docked the maximum number of points for lameness. We finished 3rd (last in our division), won rookie rider, and gained some knowledge for future adventures.

2022 I was pregnant, had a c-section, an infant, change in job, and other life challenges. So to make up for it, I made an outrageous goal of wanting to compete in the GMHA 100 mile competitive trail ride in 2023. The event is this week, and I'm getting excited / nervous. Learned a lot this year about endurance and ctr, but I know there's more to learn. Obviously my competitive side wants to win.... but there will be much more experienced riders and horses attending, so hoping to complete it with a healthy horse and a smile on my face.

I have Chad and Caleb coming to cheer me on, and a lady I met once, Claudia, to be my crew for the weekend. Hope to post updates as the weekend goes, wish us luck!!!

Last week we attended the pine tree pioneer endurance ride. I am so proud of my barn and horses! Tuesday we had a challenging 25 mile ride in torrential downpours thru deep mud and over busy roads and bridges. Wednesday Cindy and I rode solo for another 25 miles and finished second place in her first endurance race! (If i knew more about electeolytes we would have finished first!) But i learned a lot and will be more prepared for the next event! Thursday we all did a pleasure ride, about 15 miles, finished the week out dry and with smiles. I may have laughed a little when Lexi sling shotted a branch that took Elsa off of Henry. 🤣
