Thank you to all of you who joined us on this beautiful Sunday! We hope you had a great time at Alanwood. Tell me, did you find the 'Gaucho Trail', created by Fabian a couple of years ago, and now one of the most beautiful stretches along Broad Run... see video. - Any comments, or photos to share? Always appreciated!
Broad Run in Winter
BROAD RUN is not only where Alanwood is located, but also the little river that runs through our property. About 10% of our land is "Across the River" - as we call it. Trail riders can get to the other side easily by using one of the defined crossings to enjoy mainly untouched nature, home of turkeys and deer. For hikers it is a bit more challenging! But it can be a lot of fun in summer to take off the shoes, and stroll through the sparkling waters. No matter what time of the year, Broad Run is exhilarating and delightful! It can be peaceful and serene, but also wild and powerful after a storm like recently when it raised about 7ft above its normal level. River Field was partially flooded, and heavy driftwood left in unexpected places. Lots of clean-up for our workers, but that's the cycle of nature that we all here eventually so much enjoy to perceive.
Nothing like some happy horses in this winter weather... They are loving it out here!
Hope, one of the Nalani rescue horses, has recovered well and is now in training at Alanwood. She is gaited, and looking for a new forever home.
Meet Spirit, our newest rescue horse at Alanwood Farm. When he first came to us, he was very shy, didn't like to be touched, and would run away from us. But with patience, care, and understanding we've come a long way! Here is a clip of Emersyne hand-feeding Spirit during the recent snow flurries ๐๐ด
Established in 2015, Alanwood Farm is a picturesque, high-end horse farm in Broad Run, VA, just minutes from Warrenton and less than an hour from DC. This haven for the non-competitive leisure rider has 240 acres of unspoiled land, and several streams and brooks where your horse can relax whilst on a ride through some of the 15 miles of regularly-maintained trails. We are a quiet, low key horse barn under private management with highly attentive, experienced, and committed staff.
Alanwood Farm is designed to be a paradise for both human and horse. While we pamper the herd with daily, attentive care, we also try to keep them as close as possible to their natural living conditions with an abundance of pasture grazing and outdoor access, weather permitting. Twelve full acres of well-designed paddocks, high-quality grass, home-grown hay, lots of shaded areas, and exceptional fly control allow this. Each paddock is unique, providing a variety of experiences for the horses. Additionally, we feature hand-build natural obstacle courses and jumps made from locally sourced timber.
Nestled into the natural wooded surroundings, youโll find an outdoor riding arena, a 60-foot round pen, and a warm-up ring with a lunging pad. The tree canopy provides natural air conditioning in warmer weather and traps heat in cooler months, creating a gorgeous, temperate setting for working with your horse.
Alanwood boarders will not only enjoy all of the basic equine facilities, but also the unique features that really make the place special. Thereโs a peaceful lily pond with ducks, multiple decks, gardens, and benches around the property, climate-controlled lounges, free WiFi, coffee, and snacks (including boiled eggs laid by the resident free-ranging chickens). For those who wish to stay overnight, there are campsites on the property as well as rooms in a guest house available (nightly rental fees apply).
Also, we're excited to announce that the beautiful surroundings at Alanwood Farm are now available for weddings and private events, so please do not hesitate to reach out for bookings and our list of preferred vendors.
