Training tip: Give your dog opportunities to explore the world with their nose.

Dogs use their nose to discover the world—much like we use our eyes. Giving them opportunities to explore with their nose engages their brain and can help tire them. Walks are great but give them time to sniff as well and you’ll have a happier pup!

Training Tip: training never ends.

No matter how old your dog gets, keep training—reinforcing the behaviors that you want. It’s always good to keep your recalls and leave its fresh in your dog’s mind. Remember to keep rewarding that good behavior!

Due to the NADD (dock diving) event this weekend, there will be no regularly scheduled classes on Saturday, October 5.

Spectators are welcome to attend our last event of the year (leaving all non-competing dogs at home). We’ll be starting at 10:00 am Saturday and Sunday. Bring a chair, sunscreen, and come see some awesome dogs jump off the dock.

Are you ready to take the Canine Good Citizen or the Canine Good Citizen Advanced test with your dog? If you are one of our current or past students, you can take this test free of charge.

We will be testing on:
Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 6:00 pm
Wednesday, Sept. 18 at 11:15 am
Saturday, Sept. 21 at 11:15 am

(Testing will take place during our regularly scheduled Model Citizens class.)

No appointment is necessary.

Training Tip: Consistency.

Have you ever noticed how much your dog likes routine? If it’s getting close to dinner time and you’re not getting ready to feed them, they will let you know! And they can’t even read a clock! Routine and consistency help your dog to understand your expectations.

Be consistent when training your dog. For example, if you do not allow your dog on furniture, be consistent. If you allow them on it sometimes but not others it’s confusing for the dog. Or if you allow them to jump up on you when you get home some days and other days you don’t, your dog will not know what you expect.

Consistency is key for a well-mannered dog!
