Are you ready to take the Canine Good Citizen or the Canine Good Citizen Advanced test with your dog? If you are one of our current or past students, you can take this test free of charge.

We will be testing on:
* Tuesday, February 11 at 6:00 pm
* Wednesday,February 12 at 11:15 am
* Saturday, February 15 at 11:15 am

(Testing will take place during our regularly scheduled Model Citizens class.)
No appointment is necessary.

Training Tip: Be your dog’s advocate. For example, if your dog has a “personal space bubble,” don’t allow other dogs (or even people) to invade their space uninvited. Or if they are more gregarious and greet everyone enthusiastically, manage them so that they don’t come on too strong or jump on people.

January is Train Your Dog Month, and we are continuing our training tips series from Mary Green, CPDT-KA.

Training Tip: Consistency

Have you ever noticed how much your dog likes routine? If it’s getting close to dinner time and you’re not getting ready to feed them, they will let you know! And they can’t even read a clock! Routine and consistency help your dog to understand your expectations.

Be consistent when training your dog. For example, if you do not allow your dog on furniture, be consistent. If you allow them on it sometimes but not others, it’s confusing for the dog. Or if you allow them to jump up on you when you get home some days and other days you don’t, your dog will not know what you expect.

Consistency is key for a well-mannered dog!

A good reminder!

January is Train Your Dog Month!
Every week in the month of January, we are sharing a training tip from Mary Green, CPDT-KA.

Training Tip: Start Simple.
Think of training your dog the same way you learn—start simple, then gradually increase the difficulty. For example, if you want to learn to play the piano, you start with “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star”—not Beethoven’s 5th. The same principle is true for teaching your dog new things—start simple!
