๐Ÿพ๐ŸŒธRead a little more about Michele:๐ŸŒธ๐Ÿพ

At a young age I knew I wanted to work in the healthcare field, helping others, and then a high school sports injury led me into the career of physical therapy. I earned my Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Franklin Pierce University in 2016. As a physical therapist, I have specialized in manual therapy, dry needling, instrument-assisted soft tissue massage, pelvic floor therapy, and canine rehabilitation.

I have always had a love for animals and was inspired to pursue canine rehabilitation after helping my Bloodhound mix, Mabel, recover from patella luxation surgery in 2020. In 2023 I became a Certified Canine Rehabilitation Therapist (CCRT) through the Canine Rehabilitation Institute. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to bring my skills and physical therapy experience to Core Rehabilitation.

During my free time, I enjoy being outdoors (hiking, kayaking, and snowboarding), curling up with a good book, and spending time with my husband and newborn baby boy. I am also a dog mom to two sweet hound dogs, Mabel and Penny.

๐ŸŽ‰ Meet the Therapists! ๐ŸŽ‰

If youโ€™ve been to CORE before you might have run into three of our rehab therapists!

CORE employs both physical therapists from the human field and veterinary professionals! Together, theyโ€™re a cohesive team who all work extremely hard to help pets live their best lives!

All patients in the rehab department are supervised by Dr. Alli Dunlop, DVM, the owner of Integrative Veterinary Service.

๐Ÿพ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿพ

๐ŸŒŸ Leah is a doctorate of physical therapy (DPT) and a Certified Canine Rehab Therapist (CCRT). She has been at CORE now for over 2 years and truly enjoys working in the canine world. Leah loves treating post-op cases to help them return to their prior activities and loves working with geriatric patients to help them maintain a high quality of life. She especially enjoys seeing shy dogs come out of their shell and gain confidence when doing rehab exercises and building a bond with them. Leah loves being the โ€œtreat dealerโ€ at work and giving patients an extra treat or two.

๐ŸŒŸ Dani is a Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) who has been with IVS since 2019. In 2022, she received certification as a Certified Canine Rehab Veterinary Nurse (CCRVN) through the Canine Rehab Institute, and has been working with CORE ever since. Dani is passionate about senior pet wellness, and enjoys the opportunities available at CORE to provide comfort and longevity to older pets and provide guidance to the owners who care for them.

๐ŸŒŸ Vicky is a Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) and a Certified Veterinary Massage and Rehab Therapist (CVMRT) who has been working at IVS since 2018. She received her rehab education and certification through the Healing Oasis. Vicky is also our CORE Rehab Coordinator and oversees some of the day-to-day operations in the rehab department. Her favorite part about CORE is getting to see the progress our patients make and helping animals through a combination of exercise therapy and massage.

Q & A With Our CORE Veterinary Rehab Team for ! ๐Ÿฉ๐Ÿˆ๐Ÿฉต

Q: How do I know if my pet needs physical therapy?

A: Some pets will show specific signs that they could benefit from some rehab therapy, such as rear limb weakness, lameness, slowing down, decreased activity, pain, and trouble standing for short periods of time. While we might consider these signs of older age, a tailored rehab exercise program may help improve upon these symptoms. Rehab therapy, however, can be started at any age. Many patients, including athletes, do well with preventative rehabilitation programs geared toward strengthening, conditioning, and endurance.

Q: What Conditions Are Helped With Rehab Therapy?
A:
๐Ÿ”ต Post-surgical orthopedic cases
๐ŸŸฃ Some neurological conditions
๐Ÿ”ต Orthopedic concerns - such as luxating patella and dysplasia
๐ŸŸฃ General mobility concerns - such as arthritis and weakness
๐Ÿ”ต Healthy Athletic Conditioning

Q: What Services Do You Offer?
A:
๐ŸŸข Rehabilitation Consultations
๐ŸŸข Tailored Exercise Program
๐ŸŸข Hydrotherapy Underwater Treadmill
๐ŸŸข Postoperative strengthening and mobility program
๐ŸŸข PulseVet Shock Wave Therapy
๐ŸŸข Laser Therapy
๐ŸŸข Therapeutic ultrasound therapy
๐ŸŸข PEMF Therapy
๐ŸŸข TENS/NMES
๐ŸŸข Massage/Manual Therapy
๐ŸŸข Oncology/Palliative Massage
๐ŸŸข Lymphatic Drainage
๐ŸŸข Kinesiotaping
๐ŸŸก Animal Chiropractic Care (through IVS)
๐ŸŸก Veterinary Acupuncture (through IVS)
๐ŸŸก Joint and Muscle Support Supplements

Q: Do We Teach Massage Therapy?
A: Yes! โœ… We love to teach private instructional massage therapy to clients, as this can improve upon quality of life and mobility of your pet at home. We also offer in-clinic massage therapy to all patients at CORE.

Q: Do You Offer Palliative or Cancer Care Rehab?
A: Yes! We offer comfort care massage therapy to our patients that might just need a little extra TLC. โ™ฅ๏ธ

Q: My Dog is Not a Patient of IVS. Can We Still Come for Therapy?
A: Yes! โœ… We just require a referral from your vet, some medical records pertinent to the reason you are coming in, and a new patient form from you. These help the therapist to understand what is working for your pet already and what you might be struggling with.

Q: Do You See Other Animals Besides Dogs?
A: We do have rehab therapists on staff that work with cats and some pocket pets. We currently do not have plans to add other species at this time. We do have recommendations for equine services available. ๐Ÿˆ๐Ÿฉ๐Ÿฐ๐Ÿน

Q: How Much Does Rehab Therapy Cost?
A: This can vary between patients and the condition they are being treated for. All patients start with an initial consultation, which includes the formulation of an exercise program tailored toward your pet. We offer other therapy services at an additional cost, such as laser therapy or underwater treadmill.

Q: How Long Will My Pet Need Rehab Therapy?
A: This is very dependent on the reason for treatment. Most postoperative surgical cases are 12 weeks on average. Dogs with more intense needs may need longer. Patients with long-term illnesses or severe mobility issues often remain in rehab, but our goal is to decrease the frequency of visits to an appropriate interval that keeps the patient stable and/or improving. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ

Q: How Often Does My Pet Need to Come for Therapy?
A: This is also very dependent on the reason for treatment. Most patients are coming into the clinic 1-2 times per week in the initial stages. We then try to decrease the frequency, based on progress. We are also very mindful of your time and finances, so the therapist will always do their best to find a schedule that works for everyone. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Q: Should my Agility Dog Be Coming for Rehab?
A: We see many sports performance and obedience dogs at CORE, including: Agility, Fast Cat, Lure, Rally, Confirmation, Dock Diving, Barn Hunt, Flyball, working dogs, stock dogs, and hunting dogs. A tailored rehab program can be helpful not only if there has been an injury, but also to help strengthen, condition, and improve upon endurance to hopefully prevent a future issue.๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผ๐Ÿฉต

Q: Do You Offer Payment Plans or Discounts?
A: No, we do not offer payment plans. We do offer 6 month free interest on Care Credit charges over $200. Payment is due at time of service. We do offer discounted packages on laser therapy, rehab rechecks, and underwater treadmill. We also run varying specials throughout the year.

Note: Discounts for 501(c)(3) non-profit rescues and shelter groups can be arranged with the CORE Rehab Coordinator and only applies to foster/shelter animals within that organization. Veterinary referral required.

Q: My Pet is Very Scared at the Vet. Will They be Okay in Rehab? ๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ’ž
A: All of our therapists understand the need for a calming atmosphere. Many of the therapists are either Fear Free certified, or they have gone through trust building workshops to help reduce patient anxiety during an appointment. Every pet is different, but we will always strive to create a positive experience.

Q: What is the Rehab Teamโ€™s Favorite Case to See?
๐ŸŒธ Leah: Post-op surgical
๐ŸŒธ Dani: Geriatric-senior pets
๐ŸŒธ Vicky: Neurologic and palliative care

Thank you to CORE Rehab for answering some questions to help us all better understand physical therapy at IVS!

๐Ÿพ Could Your Pet Benefit from Physical Rehab Therapy? ๐Ÿพ

โœ… The answer is yes! Physical rehab is most often associated with post-surgical orthopedic patients and injuries, but the truth is that many pets can benefit from physical therapy to help improve upon their quality of life, their comfort level, or even strengthen them for competition.

๐Ÿถ ๐Ÿˆ Our senior pets tend to slow down as they age, but in conjunction with a good medical plan, rehab therapy may actually benefit their mobility. Be an advocate for your pet and let the doctor know what youโ€™re seeing at home. Together, we can formulate a plan and take an integrative approach to your petโ€™s health!

๐Ÿฉ A rehab program geared toward strengthening, conditioning, or endurance can also benefit younger athletes. Learn how to help your pet be at their very best for competition, confirmation, and sports!

๐Ÿฉต Reach out to your veterinarian or CORE if you think your pet could benefit from some physical therapy.

๐Ÿพโค๏ธVETERINARY APPRECIATION DAY โค๏ธ๐Ÿพ

Yesterday was Veterinary Appreciation Day. We would like to take a moment to thank our staff for all their hard work and their dedication to integrative animal wellness and enrichment. From our amazing front customer service team and our skilled veterinary technicians, to our knowledgeable doctors and fantastic hospital administration, everyone plays an integral role in keeping pets healthy in our community. Thank you for everything you do for our clients, their pets, and your fellow IVS team members!

๐Ÿ“ฃ Also a big thank you to veterinary clinics nationwide for all the work you do for your own communities! We have been facing a shortage of workers in the veterinary field across the United States over the past few years so many clinics are understaffed and overworked. Thank you for your perseverance.

For all our clients currently using the Physiotec platform for their petโ€™s rehab program, you will soon notice some branding changes to the name Wibbi. It is the same platform and the same site, and your petโ€™s program and log-in should not be affected. Please let us know if you are having a problem with the new website. Thank you!

๐ŸŒŸ๐Ÿพ Sending out a huge congratulations to Miss Frankie, who recently graduated from our postoperative rehab program after receiving surgery for her luxating patella. According to her rehab therapist, Frankie did amazing all through her recovery! ๐Ÿพ๐ŸŒŸ

Luxating patella is an orthopedic condition that can cause instability of the stifle (knee) joint. If the grade of luxation is bad enough it can cause the โ€˜kneecapโ€™ to slide in and out of position, resulting in pain and damage to the area. This condition is most often seen in small breed dogs.

From all of us at IVS, we would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year 2024! The clinic will be closed today, but regular business hours resume tomorrow at 8am. ๐Ÿพ๐ŸŽŠ๐Ÿพ๐ŸŽŠ

Congratulations to Sadie on her graduation from her postop TPLO rehab program last month!

Sadie worked very hard to come back from a torn cruciate ligament at the age of 12. Her family has been very dedicated to allowing Sadie live her very best life! She worked closely with our team both before her surgery and several months afterward to overcome some mobility challenges and earn some extra treats and love from her rehab therapists.

Thank you for always being a good girl, Sadie. We are all very proud of you and your family. ๐Ÿฉท๐Ÿพ
