We are delighted to share some exciting news with you about the growth and positive changes happening at Merrick Animal Hospital.

Dr. Nathan Horowitz and Jenny Massie (Veed), our practice manager, have officially purchased Merrick from the estate of Dr. James Hosek. While we will always miss Dr. Hosek and what he brought to this practice, we are excited about carrying his legacy into the future.

We look forward to continuing to serve this community as Merrick Animal Hospital has since 1934. Our wonderful caring staff will be staying with us and will continue to provide the best care possible to your animals.

Rest assured, there will be no changes to our values or our commitment to treating our patients like family. Thank you all for your continued loyalty.

With the Holiday quickly approaching we wanted to extend some helpful tips to keep your pets safe during the festivities! Also we recommend you check on your home stock of medications that help keep your fur babies comfortable! We are asking for refill requests to be submitted by Tuesday (July 2nd) 12pm in order to have it ready in time as we will be closed on the 4th of July.

In observance of the Memorial Day holiday we will be closed on Monday May 27th. We will be back in office Tuesday morning at 8am. We recommend if any of our patients are experiencing a medical emergency to visit Emergency Veterianry Services of Lisle. We hope you all have a safe and enjoyable holiday weekend!

Due to the winter storm we will be closing at 12pm today so our employees who were able to make it in are able to get back home safely before the next round hits. We hope to be open tomorrow normal hours as long as the roads are clear and our employees are able to get in safely. Please email us at [email protected] if you need any assistance. As a reminder we are closed today for our staff to spend the holidays with their families. Our phone system had an error and will not switch to our holiday closure message. As many of our clients know, Dr. Hosek has been battling pancreatic cancer for many years. He was incredibly strong throughout and even insisted on working most days because of his love for Merrick and the clients. We are deeply saddened to announce he lost his battle early Sunday morning surrounded by his family. Merrick is his legacy and will continue to embody his devotion to caring for animals and the people they owned. We ask at this time for your prayers for his family and the staff at Merrick who have lost an amazing husband, father, brother and friend. His family has asked in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Morris Animal Foundation as this was a charity he cared deeply about. A memorial is set for Saturday, 12/30, at 10:00 am. It will be at North Park Covenant Church, 5250 N Christiana Ave. Chicago. 60625.

Recently we have been receiving a lot of calls and texts about the unknown upper respiratory disease seen in the recent news. University of Illinois put out an excellent article about the prevalence in our area. As of right now our recommendations are to make sure your pet is fully up to date on all vaccines (including Bordetella and Canine Influenza) and to avoid high canine population areas(dog daycare, dog parks, etc) if you are concerned. We would like to update our clients on Dr Hosek. Unfortunately he was hospitalized this weekend for what they suspect could be a reoccurrence of his cancer. As many of you know, he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer about 3 years ago. He successfully beat it about a year ago! We truly appreciate any kind thoughts and patience throughout this difficult time. Merrick has always been one big family so our staff could use the extra support as we navigate these waters together.

Found kitty. This handsome and sweet male all black was brought in today after being found. He does have a microchip but we have been unable to contact the owners associated with it. According to shelter info he is about 5-6 years old and his name was Bruno when he was adopted. Please call us at 708-485-6500 if you have any information on this sweet boys owners. He was found in North Riverside.

We are heartbroken to share the passing of one of our own. Our dedicated technician Jennifer lost her very brief but aggressive battle with lymphoma this past weekend. She has been a dedicated member of our Merrick Family for 6 years and will be dearly missed by our staff and patients. Our staff will deeply miss her attention to detail and love for every animal that came into her life.

Starting this Monday we will be happily partially opening our doors! We will be allowing all doctor appointments into the clinic if you wish! We will still be allowing you to utilize curbside if you are more comfortable or if this works well for you! Technician appointments, surgery check ins, surgery discharges, and prescription pick ups will continue to be curbside in an effort to decrease the number of people in the lobby.
