Some of crew decided to dress up today and boy, oh, boy did they do a good job!! We have 2 versions of each vet. A veterinarian Dr. Bob and a hunter Dr. Bob. And a veterinarian Dr. Case and a golfer Dr. Case.

Then we had the characters from the Grownups movie join us. Of course we had to put them to work early this morning so there was no time for acting as crazy as they can.

The rest of us just came as our usual selves. I mean, somebody has to work around here with their being 6 veterinarians in the place! Hey, so what if 4 of them were pretenders. We had many good laughs today and we are all looking forward to what we can get into next!!

While everyone else is showing off pictures of their kids starting this grade or that grade, we are going to show off this gem right here!!

Kristy Ferguson, aka Keke, started her 16th year working at Brookhaven Animal Hospital just a few days ago. She is our longest running employee to date. With 25 years of experience under her belt, Keke is a huge asset to the hospital. She is also the one we turn to when it comes time to decorate for banquets and floats and whatever else we need to do. Her talents go far beyond animal care. She is so passionate about her job at hand, whether it is with the animals, or decorating.

We would like to say THANK YOU Keke, for all of the years that you have been a part of Brookhaven Animal Hospital!! 16 years to stay at one place is a huge accomplishment.

I believe this lady deserves a huge round of applause!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Harley is so proud of herself! She finally got all of her ducks in a row!!! Well, that is, after Dr. Watson had to surgically remove them from her stomach. She swallowed them whole, one by one and then had to come to see us and stay for a couple of days. She was discharged home today, but without the duckies. We didn’t want her to try put them all in a row again!!

To continue with our employee introductions…

Actually, to most of our followers, these two fellas do not need an introduction. But, for those of you that do, let me present them to you. On the left we have Dr. Robert Watson and on the right, Dr. Ryan Case. Folks come from miles and miles and miles around to see these gentlemen so that they can get top notch care for their furbabies!! With over 50 years of experience between the two of them, they have all of the experience needed to take care of everything from the tip of the nose to the tip of the tail and everything in between. There is seriously no telling what they will see some days.

Let’s be sure to give them a BIG SHOUT out!! I do not think they get shown near the appreciation they should. Especially when they answer that 2:00 am call and meet you when your furbaby is sick.

Want to know who takes care of your pets medical needs (plus other stuff) while they are in our care? Well, I’ll tell you who. It’s this awesome group of ladies right here!! From x-rays to lab work to assisting with surgery to filling medications and everything in between, these are the ones we count on. The love, care and compassion they show your pets is top notch!! I may be biased, but I think we have the best team around. Let’s show them some love!!

Say hello to the peeps that take care of cleaning up after, bathing, brushing, loving on, playing with and a whole bunch more for your pets! These guys take such good care of our kennels, the clinic and your pets!! They do so much behind the scenes and I appreciate them so much!! We have always taken pride in having a clean environment and these are the ones responsible for making that happen. So next time you see them, whether it is picking up your pet to stay, delivering your baby to you, or cleaning up, tell them to keep up the good work!!

From left to right: Mylie Robinson, Kylie Brumfield, Claire Cason, Megan Britt, Landon Banes and Michael Colyer.
Not pictured is Emily Rayborn. But don’t worry, she will be in the next group also.

Let me edit this to add something very important. Megan Britt had been with us for 12 years this year! She is our second longest running employee to date. Megan is a very big help to us and we appreciate her!

As promised, here is the first round of employee group spotlights! These ladies are the faces you see when you walk in, the ones you talk to when you call in, and the ones that do so much more behind the scenes that I can ever try to list. They are such a valuable asset to BAH! Their jobs are not easy! So next time you see them, thank them for all of their hard work. I appreciate them more than I can ever express!

You will some of these ladies in other group pictures because they are trained in other areas of the hospital as well.

***HAPPY OUTCOME***

So, we actually had a first today!! In all of Dr. Watsons nearly 30 years of being a veterinarian, he has never seen anything like this!! This furbaby was chasing a rodent and got his head stuck in this tire rim. He was such a happy fella through it all and wagged his tail the whole time!

Dr. Watson was successful in getting his head out of the tire rim and he went home shortly after.

******* The answer to how the pups head was removed from the rim from Dr. Watson himself…..

I sedated him with a dose of IV sedatives and when it had taken effect I applied a judicious amount of KY jelly to his head, neck, and ears. I was then able to slip first one ear through the tire, then the other. After that the head slipped through easily. He had a few small abrasions but nothing serious. He was a super sweet patient.

Hi all,

Recently, we have had several clients that have expressed concern over reports of adverse events with certain flea/tick/heartworm prevention products. Most notably, Simparica Trio has come under some scrutiny. While currently, this product is not carried by our hospital, I feel the need to address the concerns.
This product is in a class of pharmaceuticals called isoxazolines and it includes Bravecto, Nexgard, Trifexis, Comfortis, Revolution Plus, and Credelio. All of these products have been safely used in dogs and several have been used in cats for well over 15 years. All of these products have been approved by the FDA as safe and effective. I can assure you that the risk of flea anemia, tick borne infections, and heartworm disease are FAR GREATER threats to your pets than the risk of using these products.
The bottom line is that there are risks and side effects with EVERY medication on the shelf. Just read the package insert in your aspirin bottle. With that said, these products should be used with caution in ANY animal that has a seizure disorder and only by the discretion of your veterinarian in these animals. They should only be used according to the label instructions. Our doctors and staff will gladly discuss these medications and their use in your pets should you have concerns. We use them consistently in our own pets.

Thanks!
Dr. Bob Watson

“She doesn’t have to wait anymore” In rescuer Suzette Hall’s experience, lost dogs will typically roam around, while those who are abandoned will stay and wait for their owners to return. So, when a group of Good Samaritans told Hall that a dog was hiding under a construction sign along a bu...

“The monster must DIE!” At least, that’s what I imagined the Chow mix was thinking as she launched herself at the vacuum cleaner, growling and snapping as if she were taking on a zombie horde. I cued the owner to shut off the machine. “You’re right,” I nodded. “She hates the vacuum cle...
