The Brookings Regional Humane Society has urgently taken in over 55 cats/kittens and 4 dogs from a single household after the owner's death. Coordinated with the Brookings Community Service Officers, this operation aims to ensure the animals' welfare and future adoption.
Due to the large intake, BRHS has temporarily closed its animal intake services to focus on these rescues.
BRHS is appealing for community support in the form of monetary donations for medical expenses, supplies such as cat litter and wet ALL STAGES cat food, and foster homes for nursing mama cats and kittens.
The community is encouraged to contact BRHS for donations, supplies, or fostering opportunities. Donations can be dropped off at the shelter during open lobby hours.

Welcome Dr. Madison Dodds!

Dr. Madison has now been at Heartland for three weeks. She is a great addition to our team and we are very grateful to have her.

Dr. Madison grew up on a Ranch near Bowdle, South Dakota where her family raised horses, cattle, and Shetland sheepdogs. Madison grew up showing and training Shelties in both AKC shows and 4-H. Madison’s special interests include dermatology, small animal wellness, soft tissue surgery, and ophthalmology.

- Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Iowa State University in 2021.
- Bachelors Degree in Animal Science from South Dakota State University.
- Special interest in small animal dermatology.

We figured it was time to show a little sneak peak of our new clinic! Everyone at Heartland is overly excited to provide the top quality care in a larger and up to date space. With 5 exam rooms, we can take on more appointments. We also have a larger, more accommodating lobby! An open house date is soon to come and our staff can not wait to show everyone inside! Ticks that carry Lyme disease can be found in rural areas as well as cities and other places where you would least expect them.
