Available for adoption. Truffles and her adorable baby girls are available for adoption. Female trios make ideal partnerships and whoever adopts these ladies will have endless fluff! Truffles is just 9 months old, so even though she’s had two pregnancies, she’s still young and healthy. Velma is especially wild and pink with her mohawk, black nose, and multi colors. Daphne is the little dare devil who loves the top bunk. No matter their personality, all three are loving and cuddly. I promised Truffles no more pregnancies, so she will be waiting with her daughters for the perfect, indulgent home.

Now available for adoption! Ferris and Scooby are newly bonded boys available for adoption. Ferris was rescued last summer with the big eviction crew (one of Big Poppa’s many offspring). He is a sweetheart! Scooby was recently born in the rescue and is healthy and cuddly. Adoption application is on my website. 🤍

I was nervous and forgot to take an adoption photo, but Stripe and Travis were adopted today! They’re going to a great home with a piggy savvy family and I am so happy for them. Enjoy your new home boys, I will always love you! 🤍

Tomorrow is adoption day for Stripe and Travis, so today they received the full treatment: baths, blowdry and trim, ear cleaning, boar cleaning, nail trims, liquid vitamin c, pest prevention, and a full outgoing health check. Both checked out completely healthy and happy. Plus they got kisses and parsley to go along with it all.

Adopt. Adopt from me and your guinea pigs are healthy and all set for settling in as a wonderful, healthy part of your family. Do pet stores do this? No. And they charge more. (My website is linked in my bio.)

I’m always here to answer your questions, help with health checks or grooming needs, and sew anything you may need for your babies. They will always have a piece of my heart. 🤍🤍🤍

We got to have a home visit with my son today. Queso is his guinea pig and they spend a lot of time together whenever he’s home. My son has ASD and attends a therapeutic school right now, Queso was life changing for him AND me. Saving Queso helped me realize how valuable guinea pigs are (see my saved stories for research on neurodivergent individuals and guinea pigs). Just had to share how much I love these boys!

New England friends! A friend of mine, a local small farmer, rescued a fluffle of bunnies who need homes. They’re Rex/Lion Head plus whatever mix, but very adorable. I don’t have room for them at the rescue but wanted to help them find homes quickly! They’re 7.5 weeks, so not spayed or neutered, but looking for loving homes. Reach out and I can put you in touch with her. Please feel free to share.

Balls of fluff or babies? Truffles’ babies are ridiculously fluffy and adorable. Meet Daphne, Velma, and Scooby. Soon Scooby will bond with one of my single males for adoption, but I hope Truffles, Daphne, and Velma can find a wonderful home together. 🤍🤍🤍

Rocket and Nasa as well as Midnight and Star were surrendered a week ago. They’re two pairs of girls and well cared for. Midnight and Star (about 2) always put their noses up to the cage for kisses and veggies. Super friendly and sweet! Rocket and Nasa (about 1) are more shy but are taking food from my hands. They love to burrow in their hay. Both pair are available for adoption!

Question for fellow rescues. How did you choose/recruit/find board members? I’m having a hard time getting the financial side of rescue moving. Right now it’s like an expensive, time consuming hobby. Nearly everything is out of pocket for me (I mean, just about everything), but that isn’t sustainable. I keep getting stuck! Any resources, tips, or inspiration is very welcome. Thank you!!

Do you live in the local area? Have guinea pigs, but hate using your washer for laundry? I have a dedicated pig laundry washer and I would love to wash your pig laundry for rescue money. I’ve been washing my neighbor’s and realized I could offer this for everyone. I have LOTS and LOTS of experience washing guinea pig laundry and dealing with gross pig messes. Drop off and I will brush off, wash, hang dry, and fold for you. Usually same day service. $10 per load. Reach out to me for more information.

Mama Cass, Carol, and Sloane were indignant about a cage move to make room for more girls, but in the end, they’re happy with their new location (judging by their comfy resting spots). Two pairs of girls are coming in today, for the kind of reason rescues exist. I’m glad I can help out. Tybee (my little dog) is sharing some of her dishes though…time to find more pellet dishes at the thrift store! Finally, I added a picture of Truffles and one of her babies snuggling because they’re too cute!

Fellow rescues: How do you handle adoption screenings for in person adoption events? One of my local farm and feed stores is interested in hosting an adoption event and I would like to know how you’ve handled this in the past. Thank you for any tips and advice!

This is Big Poppa, The Notorious PIG. He’s the most senior pig in the rescue and came with a large group nearly 1 year ago. He was housed with two adult females and accidental breeding got out of control. We have four of his children still in the rescue, Moo, Ferris, Cameron, and Sloane. Carol and Mama Cass are the two adult females who got pregnant.

Big Poppa has very long tail fur and needs baths and trims to keep him clean. Today we had to go for a full bath, not just a bum bath. Carrots of course for being a good piggy.

Today Truffles moved into a cage setup that’s easily accessible for me to help mama when she needs it. It’s simple, but I love this cage because it showcases all that it takes to make a rescue successful: self reliance, community support, and innovative small businesses.

The cage, house, and litter box were donated by women in my community; some items are purchased from small businesses (the pink bed is from , the orange cot is from , and the adorable “lollipop” is from ); one of my daughters’ friends donated the food dish; the water bottle is one of my tried and true reliable favorites; and the p*e pads were sewn by myself. 🤍

Truffles was surrendered three weeks ago with her crazy haired baby boy, Travis. Her owner bought her and two other pigs from a local breeder, believing they were all female. It turns out they were two males and a female, Truffles. She gave birth late April to Travis. Did you know guinea pigs can get pregnant 2-15 hours after giving birth? Truffles wasn’t separated soon enough it turns out. After a visit to our pig savvy vet today, , my suspicions were confirmed and she is having three babies. Since I used to focus on rescuing males, this is my first pregnancy, but thanks to the efforts and publication of other rescues, I feel prepared. Her first baby, Travis, has INSANE fur, so who knows what these babies will look like. 🩷🩵🤍

Today I am grateful for local women supporting each other. Another woman gets leftover veggies from a local farm for her farm animals and had plenty of leftovers. She posted about it on a local women’s group and I picked up two big bags. I am so excited about how much fresh variety I could offer Wheektopia today! I plant what I can, but it’s hard to keep up with 30 piggies and two hungry bunnies. This makes a huge difference. Thank you!

As a reminder, a variety of veggies and occasional fruits are an important part of your guinea pigs’ diet. The way I do things for 28 pigs and two bunnies will be a little more involved than your process, but here are a few tips to make feeding your family pets a little easier:

🔘 Do you eat salads? When I make a salad for my family (like tonight), I keep the base salad with only piggy friendly veggies and leave the other toppings (avocado, onion, cheese, etc) on the side. After dinner, I feed the base salad mix to the pigs. I have to add more vegetables for my crew, but it gives a variety to their diet. If you have a few pigs, this is an easy way to feed them!

🔘 Are you pressed for time? Facing stressful times or a busy week? Buy a big box of mixed salad greens and use this to feed your piggies for a few days. Grab some mini bell peppers and pass those out too. I also grab a bag of chopped kale (high in vitamin C) and sprinkle that around.

🔘 Do you need to save money? Use a little more time and buy whole heads or bunches of greens and herbs then rinse and chop (or don’t chop!) before serving. I found a giant salad spinner at the thrift store and I use this all the time. (My pigs wheek to the sound!) I look at what’s on sale that day and stock up for a few days. I usually grab a mix of the following, depending on availability, prices, and quality: romaine lettuce, green/red leaf lettuce, chicory, dandelion greens, kale, flat leaf parsley, cilantro, red and green bell peppers, and occasionally basil, dill, and carrots with green tops. Carrots, cucumbers, and celery too!

🔘 If you have some flower beds or pots, you can plant easy grow veggies. Cilantro, basil, lettuce, mint, and celery grow easily and you can pinch off what you want and the plants will grow back. I plant as much as I can to feed Wheektopia during the summer.
