Paul will be in the Copper Country September 17-19 and can bring up fresh baby Ginger and fresh turmeric roots.

$15 lb.

Please order by this Sunday 5pm for our Monday Sept. 14 harvest.

We will mix if you'd like.

We remove the tops, so you are getting only the roots.

Baby Ginger and turmeric have no thick skin -- think new potatoes. They are also not stringy.

HI Folks, I am sorry but I will not be available at Tuesday's Downtown Houghton Farmers Market this week. We have a severe labor shortage here at the main farm and the raspberries need to be trellised. Sixteen, 200-foot rows and it takes someone like me (with experience) to tie them up correctly. So I'll see you next week and I'll make it up to you with raspberries and more tomatoes!

Many of these vegetables will be on my table Tuesday at the Downtown Houghton Farmer's Market. These photos are from this morning at my main growing location in Brooklyn, Wisconsin. We've had plenty of rain and warmth. Tuesday I'll have French Fillet beans, zucchini, blossoms, onions, tomatoes, kale, charf ,cabbages, garlic and a variety of fresh herbs. We primarily are a raspberry farm. The long rows are 200 foot raspberry rows. Chervil our dog hunts the vegetables and raspberries every morning for mice and bunnies. Due to the heavy dew here all tomatoes are grown in open hoophouses.

I'll be at this week's Houghton market with baby carrots, beets, greens, cabbage, garlic and a few tomatoes. Still too early for onions and beans.

Louise and I have made the difficult decision to put The Cottage Garden into dormancy for this year and perhaps until spring 2019, when I am able to get Medicare healthcare.

Some people think that national politics doesn't affect individual decisions, but it does. Due in major part to the election of Donald Trump and now the Republican recent moves to overturn President Obama's American Healthcare Act and the effect the overturning will play on our healthcare costs, we are finding it prudent not extend ourselves too far if this American health policy changes.

To be clear, The Cottage Garden has been profitable but growing here in Wisconsin is easier. The added stress of running an operation in Michigan as well as Wisconsin only builds on the number of work hours I put in. With the potential of losing ACA healthcare I need to be more cautious about increasing stress that could affect my heart health further.

I continue to come to Houghton and will bring "early tomatoes" to Houghton's markets on my frequent visits to care for my mom and my rentals.

We are looking forward to opening the Cottage Garden again when we are able to feel more comfortable with politics, about stress it creates, and healthcare expenses. Paul
