I decided to do a special breeding to create a dog for me, breeding my young Presa Canario male (16 mos. old on photo) to my dynamic female Pit Bull. These dogs were bred specifically for protection. The puppies, now 12 weeks, have exceeded my expectations at every level. (They are 5 weeks old in the pictures.) I call these Banddogs ‘PresaPits.’ I have six available for sale. If you’re in Texas like us, you’ve probably noticed the change in weather. Texans are not used to freezing temps and our furry friends may not be either. While there are some breeds that are happy about the temperature change, there are some that are not.

Here are 5 tips to help your four-legged friend during freezes. 🥶

1. Bring them indoors. If you can’t bring them in your house, there are alternate shelter options, like your garage, a shed or an enclosed dog house.

2. Keep them warm. If your dog doesn’t have its own sweater or coat, there are YouTube videos that walk you through how to use one of your own on your pet. Laying blankets or towels over them helps as well when they’re lying down.

3. Trim the fur around their paws. Ice can form between pads and toes, making it uncomfortable for them to walk.

4. Keep their paws clean. Salt used to melt ice can cause irritation and damage the paw pads. Be sure to give them a quick rinse after coming back inside from a walk or potty break.

5. Keep their ears dry. Excessive moisture from rain, sleet or snow can cause painful ear infections.
