Our Story

Hello, Im Cecilia Martinez, Im Southernwind Kennels, Southernwind was established in 1978, It all started through the input of different successful breeders and enthusiasts friends who were part of the inspiration . As a young girl I had always shared a great passion for dogs and Horses, my home was known as the Pet rescue Shelter in my town, were all strayed and abandoned dogs would come to share our home. When I was born, my family had Perla, a Female Doberman who had been a rescue from the first Doberman breeder in PR, Perla suffered distemper and they were going to put her down, but then my MOM came to the rescue and took her under her care, In the 1950’s distemper was a real deadly disease and my mother was able to save her with nurturing care and baby antibiotics, Perla suffered terrible joints weakness and couldn't walk nor stand, and my mother taped wooden splints to her legs to help her walk, Perla lived up to 12 years of age in perfect health and no withdraw form the distemper except for her yellow teeth!! Like this story there are many more...I tell this story over and over, for I feel proud about my mother and my family who were primarily responsible to establish in me the real love and devotion for animals. My mother passed away when I was 12, but she left in me the greatest imprinting, the real love and devotion for animals ! Since then I turned my life into walking in the path of passion for them! To Her I have dedicated this Web Page, many, many years have passed and every idea, inspiration, outcome and success is written in these pages and it turns out to be everything because of her! Southernwind now a days is the trademark for highest quality and success internationally recognized for its quality and professionalism in our Breeding Programs. Our main objective is to maintain the principles of the Standards upon each breed were created. For many years now Southernwind has established a very well recognized quality Control Breeding and importing program, our “selective breeding Program” is the one with the capacity to produce dogs that have an incredible eye catching beauty and outstanding temperament to be able to serve the most demanding “critique”. Southernwind has been established for over 40 years now and takes accounts for the improvement of the breed in PR! The foundation on these dogs has been carefully planned ,Southernwind breeding program was based upon strong building blocks with well established and recognized solid genetic blood lines that still imprint the same strength in the past and future generations! Our foundation were carefully selected European bloodlines, from well recognized Professional breeders from Europe. We can say we were lucky to have been able to have found great contacts who have remained as good friends and support us in the selection of the bloodlines, temperaments and good health, dogs are hand picked by our sources and they do not send us anything they wouldn't keep themselves, In these pages you will be able to see many of these past imports and the impact they did. Dogs have become our style of Life, we have never seen this as a Money Making project, Our fundaments are based upon the joy and great satisfaction we take in account when we give birth to a new litter, nothing makes us happier and more fulfilled than the great emotions of happiness we are able to deliver to the new puppy owners and their families, we are certain we did a great job, when after many years these same friends come to acquire a new puppy from us, generations after generations, Our Southernwind Family keeps growing and coming back!
