Is your dog’s New Year, No Itch resolution starting to backslide, Or is it really New Year, Same Itch?

Allergies in pets can be a battle to gain control, especially during seasonal allergy times. Other factors like diet, environment, and shampoos can also cause allergies to flare up. In most cases, the biggest hurdle can be determining the exact cause of the allergies, considering patients could have multiple allergies.

Zoetis, who produces Apoquel and Cytopoint, offers pet parents resources and quizzes to help them assess their canine companions' itching habits. Another resource is a pre-visit itching questionnaire for any pet parents concerned their pet could exhibit allergic symptoms.

The purpose of the questionnaire is to prepare pet parents for the questions their Veterinarian will be asking during their appointment. Which could provide details regarding your pets' day-to-day activities that we, the pet owners, could easily forget when having a big allergy talk.

These resources are free for all pet parents and could give your pet’s Veterinarian key details to discuss during your pet's appointment, additionally assisting in creating your pet’s health plan.

Meet Sad Kitty 😻

Don't let his name fool you! Sad Kitty was a sweet, tender boy who persistently wanted his ears and chin rubbed. However, all the rubs and scratches made him show off his master biscuit-making skills to every team member he could.

Sad Kitty came to visit us because his mother noticed him limping. During his visit with Dr. Jenkins and his technician Julia, Sad Kitty had some x-rays taken of his injured leg. It did show that he had what looked to be an old injury. Since Sad Kitty was a stray who adopted his family, they were unaware of his previous medical history.

Some of you noticed that BVC closed early Friday last week.

The early closure was for the BVC Team to get together for our Annual Christmas Party. 🎉 Dr. Jenkins treated us to food and fun at Florida Cracker Riverside this year. Unfortunately, the team could not get any pictures of the monkeys on Monkey Island, as they had been transported to another facility due to the impending weather on Friday.

Dr. Rodgers and Sandee could not attend the festivities, but they were with the team in spirit and enjoyed their goodies this week. 🎁

With Independence Day right around the corner, we would like to extend some helpful tips for this upcoming holiday as more pets go missing during the 4th of July holiday than at any other time of the year.
• If your pet fears fireworks, please remember to keep them indoors during this time. Give them an area with their favorite toys to help distract them from the loud noises and provide comfort during these times that can be scary for them.
• If your veterinarian has prescribed your pet anxiety medications for fireworks, please make sure you have those on hand and/or have prepared to pick them up from your veterinarian before the festivities.
• If your pet is microchipped, please make sure the microchip information is up to date with your current information, including address, phone number, email, and/or the veterinary clinic your pet is a patient of. When a pet is found and microchip scanned, having up-to-date information is the best way for you and your pet to be reunited.
Accidents happen, and pets can get out during times that are scary for them, we hope everyone’s pets stay safe during the holiday!

We would like to announce that starting January 1st of 2023, we will no longer be providing boarding services. We understand this may cause some inconvenience for our clients, and we would like you to know this is not a decision that was made lightly.

There are many boarding facilities within the Brooksville and Spring Hill areas, that can provide these services for you. If you would like a recommendation, please contact us at 352-796-5181, email us at [email protected] or send us a private message here on Facebook.

We can email/fax your pet's vaccine records to the boarding facility of your choice, additionally, you can visit our website at www.brooksvillevet.com and click the orange Petsites link, this will allow you to have your pet's vaccine reminders right on your phone.

We are pleased to announce our new pet reminder system is up and running! We are so excited for our clients to be able to utilize this new system. Most of you should have received an email letting you know about the launch and welcoming you to the PetSites home page to create your account. If you have not received this email, please contact the clinic at 352-796-5181 to ensure you gain access to this wonderful tool!

For quick access to PetSites, visit our website at www.brooksvillevet.com and click on the orange link that says PETSITES/REQUEST APPOINTMENT. Via PetSites, you can request appointments, request medication or food refills, and you can even access your pet’s vaccine history and print out your pet’s own little vaccine reminder card!
In addition to the reminders, refills, and vaccine history, you can also text us updates of your furry friends with a few simple taps on the phone! We will still have the option for pet owners to take surveys and tell us how we are doing and how we can improve the care of their pets.
