October is National Pit Bull Awareness Month, a time dedicated to educating the public about "pit bull" type dogs and challenging harmful stereotypes and misconceptions. This awareness month aims to highlight the true nature of these often misunderstood breeds, promoting their qualities of loyalty, affection, and playfulness, and advocating for responsible ownership and adoption

Common pit bull myths include that they have "locking jaws," are inherently aggressive, or were solely bred for fighting; however, facts show they have no unique jaw structure, that their behavior depends on socialization and training, and that they were historically used as versatile companions, farm dogs, and service animals. Pit bulls are intelligent, eager to please, and can be affectionate family pets, though their history is complex, and individual temperament varies like any other dog breed.

Facts about National Black Dog Day!

National Black Dog Day is celebrated annually on October 1st to raise awareness for the challenges black dogs face in shelters and to encourage their adoption. The day highlights "Black Dog Syndrome," a phenomenon where black dogs are overlooked for adoption due to misconceptions, cultural biases, and their appearance in photos, leading to longer stays in shelters and higher euthanasia rates.

RUBERT WAS ADOPTED TODAY 🎉🎉

A couple months ago a sweet lady fell in love with a dog here at the shelter, but he was a little too much for their senior dog, Minnie. Sadly, Minnie just passed away in August and they were missing a fur baby. She contacted a volunteer about Rubert, having experience with mast cell from a previous dog. She stated he shouldn’t have to stay in the shelter being sick. Well today she gained a beautiful soul. She swept him up quick and he swept her off her feet 🧡

Welcome to your new home sweet boy! Happy life!

We got the sweetest update on Sonny (now Moose). Just a few days after adoption, he went on his very first road trip with his new family. Potty training is still a work in progress (one day he’s perfect, the next… not so much), but he’s fitting right in.

His family says he’s hilarious to watch. He jumps around with his front paws out like he’s putting on a show. Moose also loves his walks and never trails behind; he’s always leading the adventure.
