When Snapdragon arrived at the shelter, he wasn’t alone. One of 30 American Bulldogs rescued from a sad situation, he carried the weight of a past filled with uncertainty and fear. At first, Snapdragon kept his distance, unsure of what to make of this strange new world where people spoke softly and hands reached out gently.

But Snapdragon is a survivor. With time, patience, and the kindness of the shelter team, he began to let his guard down. Little by little, the fear gave way to curiosity. Trust took root. He discovered that humans can be gentle. That treats are delicious. That belly rubs might just be the best thing ever invented.

Now, this 3-year-old sweetheart is ready for the next step: a home of his own.

Don’t expect perfection. Snapdragon’s never had a family before, so things like furniture, doorbells, and vacuum cleaners may take some getting used to. But if you’re patient, he’ll repay you with fierce loyalty, goofy smiles, and a heart that loves hard and true.

Snapdragon has shown signs he could do well with another dog, especially with slow introductions. We haven’t seen him around children, so bring the little ones along for a meet-and-greet to see if it’s a good match.

𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗨𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲: 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗧𝗡𝗩𝗥 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗿𝗲𝘀

Due to the overwhelming demand for our Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return (TNVR) services, all available appointments have been quickly booked out for several months in advance. While we are thrilled to see such strong community participation, scheduling so far ahead has presented challenges for both residents and staff.

We have experienced a number of no-shows and unconfirmed appointments, which not only impacts our veterinary team’s ability to serve efficiently but also prevents other residents from accessing these vital services. Additionally, scheduling months in advance can be difficult for residents who may not be able to secure the cats by the appointment date.

Effective immediately, all pre-scheduled TNVR appointments are being canceled, with the exception of those scheduled for the current week (July 9, 2025 appointments will still be honored).

Moving forward, TNVR appointments will be scheduled one week at a time.
To confirm your appointment, you must call 352-796-5062 the day before your scheduled appointment.
Unconfirmed appointments will be canceled and made available to others.

We appreciate your understanding as we make these necessary adjustments to better serve our community and maximize the success of the TNVR program.

Chico came to us under tough circumstances. He was found with his unconscious owner and through it all, Chico stayed right by their side

He is a good ole boy with a calm, easygoing personality. He’s VERY housebroken and absolutely hates to go potty in his kennel. He holds it like a champ until he’s outside. Our vet estimates him to be 5 years old. He walks great on leash and gets along well with other friendly dogs. Just a solid, dependable companion looking for a soft place to land.

Chico did test positive for heartworms, but don’t let that scare you. It’s not contagious to people or other pets, and there’s an affordable, slow-kill treatment option available that you can discuss with your veterinarian. He needs someone willing to give him a chance to get healthy.

If you’ve got dogs at home, bring them by to meet Chico, he’d love to say hello and see if it’s a match. He’s ready for his next chapter and would be so happy to be part of a real family again.
