Franklin County Indiana Humane Society

Franklin County Indiana Humane Society We are a 501.c.3 nonprofit volunteer organization providing assistance for needy animals in FC. We'd love to have you join us.

We are proud to be Franklin County's oldest nonprofit group working on the behalf of area animals. Our volunteers have been working together with the community since 1976 to provide a better outcome for the stray animals who make their way to our area shelter and rescues. Our building doubles as a site for THREE low-cost/high quality spay/neuter transports and for adoption events. The focus of our

organization is to reduce the number of animals born in Franklin County, to improve the outcome of those who make their way to the shelters, and to provide educational resources to the community we share. Since we receive NO county funding, fundraising and donations are how we keep our doors open. Your financial support goes 100% to support our mission since we have NO paid employees. Volunteers who have a heart for helping animals are always welcome!❤

💩Check out our February Fundraiser!💩

Who has done you wrong in life that really deserves to have their name pooped on by a cat? It could be a crappy ex boyfriend, girlfriend, spouse, co-worker or family member....our cats will💩 on anyone!

Here's how it works:
💜 From now till February 16 donate $10 and message us the name of your chosen person.
💜 Donations can be made via Venmo or PayPal or Facebook! Simply donate and comment the name of the crappy ex and we’ll do the rest!
💜 All donations go 100% toward the care of the animals in our facility as we find them furever homes!
Thanks for donating and sharing this fundraiser with your friends.

Two more great cats went home this week!! Greta found her furever buddy, just look at that smile! Cookie was scooped up by a fabulous family who are repeat adopters. We appreciate their willingness to open their homes to these animals. Thanks to our partners at Pet Supplies Plus - Harrison, OH for their support in helping us find matches for our felines. ❤️

We were recently gifted this amazing giant cat wheel! A couple of our volunteers put their heads together to assemble it this past weekend. Now we are excited to have our feline friends figure it out for some fun enrichment time. Kent (who is ready for adoption) didn’t quite appreciate it yet…Stay tuned for some fun videos once they figure it out! Thanks to our amazing supporter for the cool donation!!

We are excited to share that registration is now open for our first spay and neuter clinic of 2025 with services provided by Public Vet. This clinic will take place in Brookville on Monday, March 31.

Fantastic financial assistance is available to ALL Franklin County residents thanks to Pet Friendly Services.

Thanks for sharing this opportunity with your friends and family both on and off of social media. Our local shelter and rescue cannot keep up with pace of unwanted and unplanned litters. Spay and neuter is the only solution and we need our community to step up and bring in cats and kittens to be fixed.

Sign up at www.pub.vet Our last clinic in December sold out, so don’t delay!

Please reach out to us with any questions and a volunteer will get back with you.

A GIANT thanks to Grooming Girls Pet Salon! They held a raffle and giving tree event at their salon this past Christmas season and we are thrilled to receive the donations they collected on our behalf! In addition to the items pictured we were also grateful for the monetary donation that will help in paying some of our recent medical expenses for injured animals we took in the past month. Thank you for your generosity! Our community’s support means so very much and is vital to our organization’s ability to help. You rock!

We ended 2024 and started 2025 with some kitties who had major medical needs brought in by concerned community members. We’d like you to meet them!

First up is Mark- Mark is a delightful boy who ended up needing his back leg amputated. His leg was completely shattered after being hit by a car. He’s recovering nicely and will soon be ready for his furever home. 🧡

Next is Loki- Loki is an absolute doll who was found with injuries to her tail and mouth. She was brought to us for help and ended up with surgery on her lower jaw to repair her lip and remove some of her teeth that were damaged. It is thought that she was thrown from a car and that resulted in her injuries. After many days of a soft food diet she is almost fully recovered and will soon be ready for her furever home. 🖤

Third is Miss Francie. Francie was brought in when a concerned citizen saw her struggling to move in a local cemetery. They scooped her up and brought her to us for help. Francie had an injury to her back leg. Through surgery they were able to pin it back in place, hopefully saving her leg. She is recovering nicely and will be up for adoption soon. 🤎

All these animals are loving and grateful for the humans who have gotten them this far. Thanks to donations we are able to say YES when folks reach out to us for help. We don’t have a vet onsite-volunteers transport and arrange for care of all medical needs at local veterinary practices. We want to be able to continue this mission. With just these three cases we have spent thousands of dollars.

We’d be grateful if you could help donate to future care of needs just like these when they arise. Just hit the donate button in this post. As a 100% nonprofit we only operate on donations. No amount is too small.
Thanks for reading, sharing and supporting!

Our volunteers work so hard to make great adoption matches happen for each animal that comes though our door. ❤️
We appreciate the donations, social media shares and of course our adopters who make the mission to find amazing homes a reality. Some matches may take longer than others, but we are proud to care for them on their journey, no matter how long it takes. Every animal deserves a good home!!

Our Story

We are a small town organization ready to make a BIG difference! We are located in the town of Brookville, Indiana. We are not the County Pound. Our organization is completely comprised of volunteers. The FCHS has no paid staff and we receive no financial support from the state or local government. Every dollar that you donate to the FCHS goes directly to improving the lives of animals in our community. We are considered a rescue, and not an “intake” shelter. The cats that we house come from the county, as well as cats from the community that are sick or injured. It is part of our mission to find the right forever home for every animal that we encounter in our facility!

We are pleased that our shelter space doubles as a site for monthly spay/neuter transports and for adoption events. Our primary focus is to reduce the number of animals born in Franklin County, reduce the number of animals entering local shelters, and eliminate the practice of killing healthy animals for convenience. We strive to educate our community and improve the quality of the lives of animals within Franklin County and beyond.

Our monthly spay/neuter is through UCAN in Cincinnati. Each month UCAN comes to the Humane Society to pick up pets to transport to and from their facility for surgery (transportation is free of charge). The surgery cost for dogs is $90.00. Cat surgery is $45.00 and rabies vaccination is $10.00. Please call the scheduling hotline at 513-762-0130 to get your pet registered for the next available date!

If you can support us in any way we would be ever so grateful. Ways you can help could include (but are not limited to): volunteering, adopting, donating supplies, donating money to defray adoption costs and of course spreading the word about our mission. We are small, but together we are mighty!
