Our Story
We are a small town organization ready to make a BIG difference! We are located in the town of Brookville, Indiana. We are not the County Pound. Our organization is completely comprised of volunteers. The FCHS has no paid staff and we receive no financial support from the state or local government. Every dollar that you donate to the FCHS goes directly to improving the lives of animals in our community. We are considered a rescue, and not an “intake” shelter. The cats that we house come from the county, as well as cats from the community that are sick or injured. It is part of our mission to find the right forever home for every animal that we encounter in our facility!
We are pleased that our shelter space doubles as a site for monthly spay/neuter transports and for adoption events. Our primary focus is to reduce the number of animals born in Franklin County, reduce the number of animals entering local shelters, and eliminate the practice of killing healthy animals for convenience. We strive to educate our community and improve the quality of the lives of animals within Franklin County and beyond.
Our monthly spay/neuter is through UCAN in Cincinnati. Each month UCAN comes to the Humane Society to pick up pets to transport to and from their facility for surgery (transportation is free of charge). The surgery cost for dogs is $90.00. Cat surgery is $45.00 and rabies vaccination is $10.00. Please call the scheduling hotline at 513-762-0130 to get your pet registered for the next available date!
If you can support us in any way we would be ever so grateful. Ways you can help could include (but are not limited to): volunteering, adopting, donating supplies, donating money to defray adoption costs and of course spreading the word about our mission. We are small, but together we are mighty!
