Bear graduated today and we are really going to miss him! He came in super confident and boisterous right out the gate, we watched him go through a wild child phase, and then we watched him learn to refine. He grew into the loving older brother for many of the new puppies just getting their sea legs with dog:dog interactions. It has been a real treat watching him grow up into the even, well-adjusted boy he is today. Today we paired him up with Nova who was on her first . We find it's often helpful for the baby pups to have a confident buddy before going it solo in week 2.

Field trip was to 7-eleven this week. It is actually a great outing location for puppies.

We had a steady stream of people coming and going, vehicle traffic- semitrucks, motorcycles, trucks pulling trailers, and honking horns. There’s also a nice sidewalk to practice leash skills and positions in a new location. The puppies walked on various surfaces- grass, rocks, pavement, brick, and stairs!

Everyone was so brave and curious today. ❤️

Contrary to what some trainers would lead you to believe, dogs can use their brains in the middle of a play session! Thank you to Aspen and Hamilton for demonstrating that dogs can go from absolutely bonkers to thinking on a dime when it's integrated in to their socialization efforts. 😉👍

Field Trips are not just about socialization. For our advance students, we also use this time for transitioning skills to increased distraction levels. Finding the right motivator as the distraction levels go up is critical as Cooper demonstrates here!

Library 📚 Field Trip!

It was a windy day but there were plenty of people visiting the library today.
Things we saw and worked on with the puppies included:

People, kids, strollers, traffic, delivery truck with loud doors and air breaks, flapping flag in the wind, fabric construction fencing blowing in wind, life sized statue of people, flocks of geese, and light poles shaking and rattling in the wind.

It’s puppy play highlights time.

We made a lot of progress in play this week.
With new students, sometimes it takes several play sessions to figure out what each puppy needs and who their best partner matches are.
This can be quite fluid and change day to day as puppies gain confidence and refine their play styles.
