***ADOPTED*** (Thanks DeeAnn & Jeremy)
Gunner is a sweet boy. He is the result of a "money making litter". Meaning, the owner had a female shepherd and knew someone with a male. The owner of the female had plans that he'd sell the pups and make lots of money. This didn't happen. Out of 7 pups, only 3 were sold by the breeder. The breeder threatened to leave remaining 4 month old pups on a gravel road until someone said they would take the pups. That person was thinking "some quick cash" as well but didn't realize the responsibility and time consuming caring for 4 - 4month old pups would be. They managed selling one pup before calling a friend with a farm and space. The 3rd home kept them outside in a kennel run and only socialized when they came to fill a community food bowl. This 3rd person had same mentality that he'd sell them for few hundred dollars quickly. Well, he managed to home 2 pups and only had 1 male pup left. He didn't want to see him out in the winter cols so he contact us and we got him out of that situation. He had no name, he craved attention, didn't know what being inside a home was like, or what it was like to get regular meals every day.
We gve him the name Gunner. We were told various different birth dates in mid to later June, however, his teeth suggest about the beginning of June. He's schedule for Dec 7th for his neuter. Gunner will be able to go to his new home that weekend following surgery. We are hoping to do meet and greets and have something lined up so when he is fixed he can join his new family. We've started his shots, will get rabies at time of neuter, he's been tested for Heartworm, Giardia, Coccida, Parvo and tick borne diseases (this includes Lymes). We started deworming, did preventative treatment for fleas and ticks along with Heartworm prevention.
Gunner is a curious, naive, and submissive pup that is always seeking a scratch behind the ear or pet on the back or head. He is learning some obedience, leash training, boundaries and expectations. He's doing ok with housebreaking with sticking to a routine. He is starting to show communication skills and will occasionally go to the door when he has to potty, but this is a work in progress. He is 70% crate trained, he's getting vetter with consistence and routine bathroom breaks. He acts alot like a 3-4 month old pup just learning there is a whole new world away from his littermates and from where he knew was home, if I was to compare him to. Not saying he has mental issues he's just got a later start to learning stuff that an adopted pup at 2 - 3 months old pup would normally experience or act like that was adopted from his owner and litter. With patience and love he Gunner will catch up in no time.
We are estimating that he'll mature out to be around 75 #, as an adult. He's been around dogs, cats, and kids as young as 4yrs old and has been good. He's unsure of dogs that want to play rough and wrestle and will communicate this with the other dog with a snap or two, saying "...you're playing too hard...it's scaring me..." If the other dog was to run around and play he does well, once again, associated to not enough socializing and being bounced around until coming to rescue.
