A Nicole and Jeb success story.

Jeb started as one of the worst dogs who ever came through my gate. When Nicole brought him for his evaluation, he was literally shut in the back of an Explorer with his leash tied to the trailer hitch, and she said, "I am not sure what is going to come out once I open it up."

I am used to new dogs pulling, so it is hard to describe just how much he pulled when he came out and started peeing on everything. Nicole told me, "I really believe in him." At the time, I thought she was out of her mind.

We started the process with a board and train. He turned on me several times, like when I wouldn't let him tackle the neighbor's cows. It was not always fun, but we built a relationship, started socializing him with people and dogs, and he started to thrive. Two weeks later, he was shipped down south where Nicole had just moved. I thought I was rid of him...

But Nicole kept it up from a distance. She often sent me videos of her continuing the training - and he looked good! Like, really good. Bear in mind, because she moved, she was not able to have any in person lessons with me, but she followed my instructions to a T.

Fast forward year or two, and she moved back. And here I was training the Jeb again. We decided to train for an obedience title, the IGP BH, and I am pleased to say that he passed!

Nicole brought a few things to the field which helped them succeed, and I thank and commend her for these qualities. She is very coachable and has a great attitude towards training. She has a great sense of timing - crucial for success with animals. And she persevered through the hard times and never gave up.

Congratulations, Nicole! You and Jeb earned it, and I was proud to have you by my side at the trial.

Jeb was one of my worst Board and Trains when it came to the stay, but he needs it to be a farm dog, so we went to work. He shifts to orient himself towards me as I move around him, as I want all focus on the handler during distractions. You can see him pout when I throw the jug, because he would really rather attack it!
