February is Spay/Neuter Awareness Month, with World Spay Day to be observed on the fourth Tuesday. Like most veterinarians, we generally recommend spaying or neutering any pet not intended for breeding. But in recent years, we’ve been following research that indicates we should fine-tune each pet’s most appropriate age for the procedure, ranging from five months to as old as two years, depending on the pet. If you’re the owner of a kitten or puppy, our veterinarians will discuss the best time to spay or neuter your pet. https://brownsburganimalclinic.com/when-to-spay-or-neuter-its-complicated/

By their third birthday, 80% of dogs and 70% of cats have some form of periodontal disease. If left untreated, dental disease can cause your pet to lose teeth and, if infection spreads into the bloodstream, can damage your pet’s heart, liver and kidneys with potentially deadly consequences. Treating and even preventing periodontal disease is a joint effort between your veterinary team and you. Read our post to learn what we can do. https://brownsburganimalclinic.com/time-to-focus-on-your-pets-dental-health/

HCAS has added this note to the post:

‼️ REMINDER - Hendricks County Animal Shelter is actively working to contain both dogs ‼️

PLEASE for their safety NO SIGHTING INFORMATION posted on Social Media. Unfortunately people with good intentions will flock to the area. This will only cause the dogs to move on. THEY ARE EXTREMELY SKITTISH & FEARFUL OF ALL HUMANS.

If you see them, please contact the numbers listed and IGNORE THE DOGS COMPLETELY.

‼️ DO NOT CHASE ‼️
‼️ DO NOT CALL OUT TO ‼️

We appreciate the community’s support with this rescue mission.

‼️1/31 UPDATE —After 16 days on the run, NYMERIA and ARYA are both SAFE at the Hendricks County Animal Shelter! Special thank you to HCAS volunteers and Peaceful Souls Animal Rescue and Recovery for the countless hours spent ensuring both dogs made it to safety‼️

These two female lab mixes went missing from their home in Plainfield on Wednesday, 1/15/25.. 10 Days Ago!

The dogs are EXTREMELY TIMID.
Very fearful of strangers. Not aggressive, but they will bolt from the area if approached.

They are also are no longer together, and each is covering a very wide area of Hendricks County. Sightings have included locations in Avon, Brownsburg and Plainfield.

In order to get them back home, we need to track each dog’s exact movements. If spotted, please…

➡️ DO NOT chase, call out or try to approach.

➡️ DO NOT post sightings to social media. We do not want extra attention drawn to the dog’s location. Instead…

➡️ CALL HCAS at (317)745-9250.

Please be as specific as possible with time, location and direction traveling.

Over the past decade, the number of overweight cats has increased by 169% and the number of overweight dogs by 158%. As a result, most pets in the United States, including about 56% of dogs and 60% of cats, are overweight or obese. The consequences are serious. Obese pets are more likely to have a number of additional health problems, resulting in a reduced quality of life for you and your pet as well as increased health care costs. Fortunately, the Brownsburg Animal Clinic team can help you help your overweight or obese pet achieve a healthier weight. https://brownsburganimalclinic.com/overweight-obesity-and-your-pets-health/
